I think I know where Salvation is...?

My initial thought when looking at that scene is that it was Codger, but I quickly ruled that out as he is currently collecting salad samples far far away...

So then I though maybe it was Tharrn or ubermick...but, as Jack suggested above, Arf did say in one of the livestreams that something really cool was coming that he was personally involved with... 🤔 ...hmmm...

But seriously I think that video is the only bit(s) of Salvation anyone outside of FDev (and presumably Azimuth Biotech) have recently seen...
Sorry, didn't read this earlier. They said it was for a Kumo Burger ad! The pay was lousy.

Sorry, that bald headed Nemesis chap could’ve been absolutely anyone, and even possible it was Salvation salivating at the tossed salad he was about to make with his Tempura fried wave scatter blast of those dreaded daffodilgoids.

Also, I pegged it after the cutscene, happy to be among those who escaped successfully.
I didn’t stick around for anything, it felt Dangerous.

Okay so I was watching the Salvation cinematic again (since it shows it every time you load the game) and something about it just didn't sit right with me. I'm going to mark the entire following post as a spoiler incase there are those who don't want to read it or whatever. Please feel free to tell me i'm delusional or if you think i'm on to something in the replies.

Anyway, here goes...

So the opening shot of the cinematic shows Bright Sentinel orbiting planet 10B in HIP 22460, and then cuts to this view of the front of the ship. This looked strange to me and I couldn't put my finger on why, until I opened the game and looked at the galaxy map.

Notice the blue nebula on the left, and the small black arrow shaped nebula on the right.
Now, at first glance you're probably thinking "CMDR Kailoren, that black nebula on the right is just the Taurus Dark Region which is visible from HIP 22460, what's the big deal?" but my point is that it isn't the Taurus Dark Region at all.
If you look at the galaxy map that blue nebula on the left is part of the skybox art, but the way the nebula is pictured in the video is reversed.

The nebula appears like this in the game, which is backwards. This struck me as odd. Since the nebula isn't actually able to be reached, its impossible that Salvation was on the other side of it. So perhaps Salvation was intentionally mirroring the broadcast in order to disguise his location? He obviously wouldn't put himself in harms way by being in the same system as the weapon when it was activated, right?
Which led me to doing some further investigation. The third shot of the cinematic shows "Salvation" from behind who again at first glance appears to be orbiting HIP 22460 10B, however (as many other eagle eyed CMDRs have noticed by now), his ship name on the right panel next to him is "Nemesis".

Further inspection shows that this ship appears to be a Drake Class Fleet Carrier, and not Bright Sentinel at all. So again, perhaps for the broadcast we are not looking at his canopy but a screen showing the guardian site below Bright Sentinel at HIP 22460 10B in order to further distract us from his true location.

Now this is where it gets interesting.

The blue nebula has a small black arrow shaped nebula to its right, pointing to wards the smaller curved arm of the nebula. Now if you look for nebulas that also match this, there are a few that come to mind. BUT if you take into account historical data from Thargoid incursions, and the placement of the nebulae in the screenshot from the Salvation broadcast cinematic, Salvation MUST be in a system of some significance.

Thargoid incursion data and a black shaped nebula points us to the Coalsack Nebula.

Which points towards the small arm of the blue nebula when the image is reversed.

If you line those up in the in-game map and then look for a system which has historical significance in the lore, you get....

Synuefe XR-H d11-102 - The system where the first guardian settlement was found.

There are two red coloured planets which also are a near match to HIP 22460 10B, and both of these are in the system (one of which orbits the planet the guardian site, or "Xenohenge", is located on)

So in summary, I believe that Salvation is hiding in the Synuefe XR-H d11-102 around the site of the first guardian ruins discovery, in a drake class carrier with the transponder disabled.
So, wait... you're saying Salvation wasn't on the Bright Sentinel, but on some Fleet Carrier somewhere else, but you draw your conclusion about his location from horizontally flipped Bright Sentinel shot?
I don't follow.

I'm shocked ppl are fighting the remote viewing theory remember we can in game manage our fc from any system we're in
Setting up a huge livestream due to fears of being hunted down by those who attacked his research labs

It's definitely not a Drake, but a Nautilus Class Fleet Carrier.
It's quite clear that all the pads are way the back and it features the rounded bow element
Ah yes, thanks! I don't own a FC myself so the Drake Class was the first one that seemed like it fit. Thanks for clearing it up!

Given that Salvation's superweapon was supposed to be the Thargoids' nemesis, I doubt that the name Nemesis for Salvation's carrier was an accident.

Frontier may be running Elite Dangerous on financial fumes, but however limited the budget it can probably run to creating an account with an appropriately named carrier for a video shot.

Whether we see Salvation again depends on how Frontier chooses to develop the narrative: you'd think his story would be done with the end of the Azimuth saga, but it's not unheard of for supervillains to come back from the dead, and after all the cinematic didn't show his body being torn into a thousand pieces - or perhaps it's just that that would have broken the budget.

Now as you mention it...

At least he partly fits... 😉 😉

I'd agree that the dark nebula is more likely to be the Coalsack than Taurus Dark Region - I can't see a plausible way to get the Large Magellanic Cloud and TDR into the same shot from HIP 22460 even ignoring the inversion.

The odd thing is that the skybox seems to have been inverted in that shot, but the megaship hasn't been - its hab ring is spinning in the standard clockwise-from-the-front direction in every shot in the video - well, the ones before it gets shut down, anyway - including that one.

Salvation's video clearly isn't taken from on-board the Bright Sentinel or even near it - his ship is pointed at the Proteus Wave site and the surface, while the Bright Sentinel is aligned parallel to the surface. Similarly, at 0:46 he's looking down on the planet from above the site, more-or-less over the terminator, while at 0:47 the Bright Sentinel is at an earlier point in its orbit, approaching the site from the side.

Interestingly, by 1:30 the Bright Sentinel is over the terminator ... and by 1:58 it and its Thargoid attendants have passed beyond and left the site behind - but by 2:23 it's back to "approaching" the site and the wave hits it from the front.

I'd guess none of that is deliberate clues that there were in fact three separate Bright Sentinel megaships, all of which were decoys to get the Thargoids to ignore the Nemesis... and more a sign that they were filming shots which looked cool without paying too much attention to exactly where the megaship was at the time, though.

(None of which means that Salvation is dead, of course: why go to the trouble of establishing any doubt at all if he's not actually alive somewhere - but equally I don't think it's intended as a clue to where he is)

Well, if you walk down that rabbit hole, how do you even know that the bald guy was Salvation and not just a random fleet carrier commander in the same system listening to Salvation's speech over bridge speakers?

And let's not forget about the possibility of telepresence in ED, i.e. even if Salvation was sitting on the Bright Sentinel's bridge and we could see his lips move, it STILL wouldn't prove he was actually there.

At some point you have to consider how FDev made that video. They used a fleet carrier bridge because that's the only bridge model in the game, and they simply didn't pay attention to the carrier's name appearing on the display. That's the most straightforward explanation IMHO. Occam's razor applied.

In fact they can easily introduce a Nemesis carrier in subsequent parts of the story, so that it looks like it was all intentional although it was initially a simple goof. We will never know unless someone from the team spills the beans. That's why I keep telling people not to read too much into these details.

It's like those recent Thargoids in CQC. Bug or feature? Sometimes it's hard to tell.

Ya the cqc thargoids were a bug I'm not saying that was him on the bridge just saying theres tech in the elite universe that will allow ppl to be and not be at the same time I hope it's just not a mess up and hints to his return . Just hoping for a continued ark

Also at the video, on the spinning galaxy of the thargoid machine at 2:13, there is one star that is not moving at all. Random or not??

Could be an origin point from where they came from pointing to a point leading to a separate galaxy. the center only has 2 arms in its spiral galaxy so its not the milkyway

Assuming the footage isn't altered it means there's 2 possibilities. He was in HIP 22460 or in he was in another system but constructed an identical Proteus Wave device which also detonated simultaneously to the one in HIP 22460 on a very similar looking planet.

Or, and I'll reference Occam here, he could have put up a movie screen and showed moving pictures, you know, that technology that should be easily enough reproduced in the year 3000+.
