The arguments seem to be getting more absurd on this issue by the post.
In brief, many modern planes in our era have autopilots that are used every day. They take away some of the tedium for pilots. How on earth can anyone argue that taking away some of the tedium of space flight is a bad bad thing??
It just seems highly odd that such a feature has such worry! I'd go as far to say that the docking computer is more trouble than a hyperspace/super cruise autopilot. I believe that you should be forced to dock manually due to the associated risks.
If I'm off exploring and need to jump 500ly, I'm not interested in the 200 systems I have to pass through on the way out (or back) - what skill is involved in aligning for jump, press joystick button, throttle up, wait, jump, throttle down, align, press joystick button, throttle up, wait, jump - repeat 198 times. The only slightly interesting part is fuel scooping when required!
