Discussion ICARUS Terminal (Pre-Release)

Pushed out v0.2.19 over lunch to address this and a couple of other issues (including improving materials view a bit).

Various niche tablet displays and other portrait displays should work better now as it will leverage display / window orientation when deciding which layout to use (i.e. horizontal or vertical split). There are some situations where there is no great option either way and this MIGHT cause unintended behavior on some monitors, but the app will try and pick the best option.

Pro tip: You scale the UI (e.g. with CTRL + Mouse Scroll) if that helps, that can be particularly helpful on smaller resolution displays.

Amazing work as always, I'm guessing no CMDR stats will be coming anymore?

Thanks! Oh I do still want to add that!

I thought it made sense to flesh out Engineering a bit now Materials view is in (which spun out of the work to add Cargo) but I'm still planning on adding in the Cmdr panel.

I might even go back to the Cmdr stuff before I finish that, as it might be easier to add Cmdr panel.

Happy to consider adding anything in particular you'd like to see there!

I'm not sure it's possible to get all the stats I'd like to in real time, but I'll check out the Journal docs and see what's possible.

Ohh fair enough, I'm loving the panel so far tbh.

it would be helpful to answer the question to help me understand the limitation in your scenario that is preventing you from installing it.
e.g. are you are trying to install it on a PC that you don't have full access to install programs on, like a school or work computer.
I did
Not at all, personal computer, and program files is only for system related tools.
it's a computer that I do manage myself and i like to keep clean, second hard drive is to install any tool that isn't system related (meaning not a driver, an internal tool or an administrative software)

I understand if you don't want to change installation configuration, I won't insist if so.
I'll keep an eye on this tool as I really do like what you did.

I've installed this to have a look and it appears it isn't reading any of my journal files, the launcher just sits at "Loading..." and the Terminal windows just has a perpetual loading spinner.
I can't see any configuration files in the installation folder or a settings option to specify paths, any ideas?

Windows 10 x64
Tried disabling AV and Anti-Malware as well

Oh no! Sorry to hear that. That's very much the sort of feedback that is helpful at this early stage. I appreciate the screenshots to confirm the behavior.

It's currently limited to checking in one location, and doesn't have any option for GUI configuration for another location. It also doesn't explicitly handle not being able to find them (as you've seen! that is what I would expect in a scenario where it can't find the logs). I do want to improve on those, but was waiting to see what sort of issues popped up first.

It currently looks in 'Saved Games' -> 'Frontier Developments' -> 'Elite Dangerous'.

The base path to look for the Saved Games folder in is provided by OS home directory function so it should work regardless of where you home drive is (although home drives on network shares might be tricky). I think I've noticed it's possible to move your Saved Games folder and have it still work in some titles, so it's possible it would not work if your Saved Games folder was in a location other than the root of your home folder (but games using it could continue to still work).

To resolve this, it would be really helpful to know:

1. The full path to your save game directory.
2. Your operating system (e.g. Windows 10).
3. Where the game is installed from (the Frontier website, Steam, Epic store, etc).

Just dl'd and installed this. I really like the way this is looking. I'm a total immersion freak so I was already planning on adding a couple of additional screens for 3rd party tools and this application has just jumped to the top of the list. Great job to all involved, I'm really looking forward to how this develops

Perfect, thank you!

I'm not entirely sure why this is failing (maybe it's getting back D:\ as the homedir from Windows and then looking in D:\Saved Games instead of D:\My Documents\Saved Games) but I pulled up the MDSN docs for how to get the Saved Games folder by GUID which should work even if the Saved Games folder is moved around.

I'll change up this works in a future update and will tag you on here when it's out.

That's super. It works, too. It was only a sliver smaller is all I needed. Now I can make it fit. Thanks.
Good thing you posted. I forgot and seeing this reminded me to start it up along with voice attack (which I also always forget to start up). Need to find a way to have it all start at once.
I use Voice Attack to start everything, when I issue the command "Initialise all systems" VA launches GameGlass, EDDiscovery. EDO Materials Helper, the ED Launcher and now this app while playing an audio track I made of an engine/system startup sounds and various crew interactions from my HCS voice packs

Link to the audio startup file I made

I understand this is a work in progress so forgive me if I'm just suggesting things you have already planned for. It would be useful on the Engineering tab to have separate tabs for each material type rather than one long list also the ability to sort by rarity/group. Also am I correct in assuming that the engineering tab currently only shows items you have in stock?. If so the option to show what you are missing would be very helpful

That's great feedback, thanks!

I'm out at Jameson's Crash site and getting multiple listings for items scanned.

Edit: Interesting that there are 4 data types available here but only the Atypical Encryption Archives and Adaptive Encryptors Capture are showing up as multiple entries

Edit 2: Changing to another tab and back seems to fix the issue

Hello,

Up until now I have only used EDMC for logging my travels and EDSM to view my progress on my journeys.
However, now that Odyssee is out and about these tools have not progressed enough to provide me with the info I need/want.
Lately I have been looking at other tools to see if there is one that would cater to all my "needs".

recently i saw a thread in the forum about your application.
I installed it and was very pleased with how it worked and looked.
As you say it is a work in progress and has not reached v1.0 yet.

I would like to suggest some wishes I would like to see implemented (if you don't already have them on your own to-do list?):
ship
- at engineering would you consider changing "engineering" to "blueprint" for the different modifications and put it in front?

navigation
  • your recent change for the sorting of the planets was a welcome one.
  • If a body has been scanned would it be possible to show the number of Bio or Geo signals too?
engineering:
  • option to only show raw, manufactured or encoded?
  • sortable by clicking on titles (raw material, applications or grade)
  • search by application and see only materials needed for that blueprint (have/need)
(but then you also need to know the number of iterations to apply per Grade)

I have used the weblink on my PC and on my iPad but there is a difference.
On PC when you select something the line or tile changes secondary and primary color.
On the iPad (iOs 15.2) this does not happen, but only in the SHIP tab.
The letters (that are yellow) change to secondary color but the tile does not change to primary.
(sorry, but I cannot provide screenshot from ipad)

Thank you for the great program and curious to see how this develops.

[EDIT] obviously two presses at the same time was difficult but after some more tries it worked:
The guardian booster is selected on iPad iOS 15.2.
Icarus on iOS 15.2 Ship tab selection.jpg

Ah, can see why that is happening. Not actually tried the collect/discard behavior yet but understand what's causing that bug. Screenshot was perfect thanks!

Update v0.2.20/v0.2.21 is out now!

It includes what is hopefully a fix for the issue that @Slegnor described, ICARUS Terminal now uses the Windows API to try and look up the Saved Game folder location. Fingers crossed this works and doesn't break for anyone else, but let me know if you have any issues. There is also a command line flag option to pass the directory to the service for advanced users.

The Navigation panel (system map & system list view) now updates anytime you scan a body or system (including FSS or Honking with Discovery Scanner!). It still uses EDSM for data, but this works really great in conjunction with a tool like EDDI, especially for Commanders out in the black - especially if you are just doing some near exploration and sharing your data with EDSM, in which case it's pretty close to real time.

Also includes some of the more minor suggestions for @Hi-Jobe that were easy to squeeze in. Lots more to come in that flavor though - like pinned mats / blueprints / list of all blueprints and requirements / nearest traders / etc.

This also seems to fix the issue of live reporting materials as they are collected, which was reported by @Greybeard Seawolf - it is working correctly for me now - but would be good to get confirmation it's working for others.

Looking good mate, I'm heading out to Dav's Hope shortly so I'll test it out and let you know how it goes. Appreciate the new sub tabs in Engineering that makes things much easier. If sometime in the future we could Sort/Filter/Show/Hide items that would be amazing. I have been pretty much focused on the Materials/Engineering tab but I have to say the Navigation tab is also really useful and somewhat of a game changer at least for me, having so much information, presented so well available at all times on a second screen makes it a real joy to play. As good as this app already is, it has huge potential so I hope it gets the recognition it deserves and that you can continue to develop

There still appears to be an issue. I went to 2 HGE's Military Grade Alloys updated correctly but Pharmaceutical Isolators create multiple entries which took a long time/several tab refreshes to correct
