Ice Asteroid Graphic / Shadow Workaround Fix - Beta 1.5 (Wasn't a Nerf - It's a bug!)

Nice to have further confirmation of this!

Didn't realise it could be tweaked. I will experiment with it, to see if it is possible to get the game looking like the screenshot.
Its not, sorry. I should have test it before writing stupid things.

It is the ambient lighting, it cannot be something else but changing the values do nothing for some reason.

Ok thanks for that. Maybe that setting has been disabled from being modified in the config file. Would be nice to get the ability to change that parameter in the future.

I don't know why they give the asteroid fields (rings) so little concern. Its the only environment in the game. Other then that you're are in open space or a station. You would think it would have some sense of priority.

I'd like some refracted light causing nice rainbow effects amongst the ice fields. That would make for some pretty screenshots. :)

that would be pretty amazing, im trying to think how that would look for those who own a VR headset? i'm guessing it would be nothing short of a silently worded wow followed by *silence

Proper old skool. "WEDGE THE KEY DOWN!"

lol

Please fix this FDev. It would make so many people happy :)

And why '3' ??? Thargoids?!

The only thing that can be tweaked that actually have impact on the visuals is the filmic tonemapping. But changing that will affect everything. IBL can be tweaked but nothing happens in-game. You can deactivate it but it's still present in-game.
Same goes for the environment mapping. :(

What looks really nice (and the effect is almost totally lost when the IBL/ambient whatever light is on) are the thinner parts of the ice/rocks letting more light through in contrast to the darker, occluded areas.

agreed, would be nice to see some variety in material opacity and refraction values for sure, that would make for a massive amount of extra variety and interest within an ice ring, would allow for inclusion of some very interesting light effects too. i'm sure that would seriously ramp up processing need, especially with any kind of decent render distance, i dare say there are more than a few players with systems that could handle it, but for the rest of us... lol. we still have 8 years to go on this mission, im sure as we progress further along, these are the finer details that will eventually be improved.

This needs to be a meme.

"Oh man, I'm so upset that Horizons isn't coming out for the Mac. But wait, I held down "3", and there is!?! Woop! Woop!"

EDIT 2: I just wanted to add that a few people have commented that the second image (with shadows) may indeed be the "glitched" version, and that instead of shadows the image shows the removal of ambient light. Although I personally prefer the second image by a long margin, I thought it only fair to raise this point in the first post for everyone to see.

Agreed. FDev, we want the glitched floating rocks.
