[IDEA] What about a community driven "CMDRs to avoid" list..

We've talked about this before.. Please do not spread lies and baseless rumors, especially those well over a year old that have been created by enemy player groups to hurt our PR. Player groups have masqueraded as us many times. We know you don't like AA goose, but we aren't the bad guys here. There is no underlying motive on our end.

I don't have some inherent like or dislike for AA Silk, however when you've masqueraded as some of these groups you claim have pretended to be you (like you have done in the past), attempted (poorly) to plant spies into other groups, took part in pad blocking/ganking of a CG, attacked lone traders in a 4 man wing with no intent beyond killing them, and generally engage in the sort of politicking a 12 year old might think is devious then some people will occasionally call you out on it.

Just because some people here don't read the reddit/follow the ingame player groups jockeying elsewhere on the net, doesn't mean that those of us who do will sit on our hands.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Please stay on topic. Witch hunting is not allowed on the forum. Airing grievances *inside* this thread about group activities, alleged or otherwise, will result in post moderation/removal.

What do you guys think?
Sure, why not?

So yes, why not have witch hunts? We already have griefers and the vigilantes.
Why not, indeed.

It's not like anyone uses their real life identities here. These are all commander names.
Actually, I use my real name and so do many others. Just sayin. Doesn't change your point though, since if I or anyone else were concerned, we could choose not to.

So that's why not.....here. Have to do it somewhere else.

Oh sorry - then yes - 100% agree. Sandro some time ago mentioned about a Crime and Punishment update that would take bounty lists to a Galactic audience (not sure if this will be in 2.1) - a list of really naughty players - and I would support that whole heartedly.
I cant wait for the implementation of a naughty list. Perfect time to join the dark side

I think in summary of the thread, unless we have a coherent set of criteria that is used to judge what player belongs on a "black list" and what doesn't, it's meaningless. This criteria also has to have at least super majority approval. Otherwise it might as well be a private list for private use since it'll be ignored as inaccurate in public. Not to mention the arbiter for this list, if a monarch, then we'll looking at something like the Great Legislator by Rousseau's idea (too idealistic and depends on morality, which pretty much doesn't exist in a video game), or a republic of some sort that will slow down the process of registering/appealing etc extremely (gridlock).

I think it's better that we return to the discussion after there's a coherent proposal for people to read.

who judge whether or not someone is worthy of being on that list. Let's be honest this is a silly idea that won't work in accordance to FD's rules. Make your own list if you want and share it between your members and that's where it should stop.

On the topic of "who decides who needs to be on the list" that all depends on the person reporting it and which radio button they click on. The person searching the lost then decides if they care or not aboit what that person was reported for. If they don't care that he's a pirate, they they can judge for themselves that they don't care. Judgement is up to the person querying the tool.

Let's be clear here. There is NO RULE stopping players from making CMDR lists on their own outside of or in game. There IS a naming and shaming rule for these FORUMS, which is a rule that I do not intent to break. If I take the time to build a well thought out and researched list and decide to share it with the public (which has been done before), that is fully allowed. If the public decides to use it or even believes that it is trustworthy, that is for them to decide.

Heck, I'm also willing to make a public submissions list that will feed directly into the AA CMDR identification list that is pre-existing and for internal use only, if it'll appease the masses.

I'd be much happier if FD were responsible for the moderation of any such list and what constitutes a player being posted on it...so I'm happy enough to wait and see what 2.1 brings.

I'm not a big fan of player controlled lists because are far too open to abuse, no matter if they are well intended.

agree that would be fair and better in my opinion if it was done by FD's (still not a big fan of the idea). I can already see every single SDC/CODE members being on that list on day one if it was just done by the community. That list would just end up becoming a dumbster for salty cmdrs which wouldn't achieve any goals what so ever.

Instead of black lists of people, I would find some kind of hot zones list more interesting.

Something like a heat map of crime, with no player names, just the systems with more crimes / attacks commited in the last X hours / days.

It might be useful for a lot of players, those who want to dive into the heat, or for those looking for "baddies" to fight, and for those who would just want to avoid such hot zones.

it's already in the game you can check how many ships visited a system. However having it on the galaxy map under a different tab with hot spots that tells you which area are the most populated would greatly help.

Yeah that's what I meant.

Additionaly, also some kind of "crime map", which could be for instance conected with the "report crimes against me" mechanic. But the "traffic map" would already be great.

Yes, Mobius or Solo for me. Open Mode sounds like 7th Grade.
After testing the waters by flying an unarmed sidey around i can confirm it's not all scary, I suspect these people mostly haunt where the easy targets will be. Only saw npcs and players going about their business to and fro really but it was an unusual thrill

Sure, but there's that newborn period, when you actually can't get out of the starter systems, not until you can equip the Hauler with a decent FSD. That creates a rat trap in Open. If I started in a Sidewinder now, I would be out in a Haz Res and the whole process would be truncated. But new players don't know the ropes.

oh very true, i wasn't meaning to imply it's all easy so much as their attention is so focused on easy targets it's possible most of the rest of the galaxy is pretty fine. I doubt they really have the patience for flying around when you can just log in and out next to CG action and newbies to gank.

i do wonder when i see the occasional box out there if they're eyeing mine and feeling fearful. not really polite to stare at a fellow's box, but you never know - besides being further out probably increases their need for lolz
