Ideas for Future Expansions to the Colourmorph System

With Update 1.8, animals can now have more than 1 rare variant! This opens up the door for a lot of new possible variants. Here's just a couple that come to mind that could be added:

Xanthism (absent red pigmentation)

This isn't very common for large animals (usually amphibians, birds, and rarely reptiles). One possible addition for this mutation could be the king penguin, as xanthism in this species has been documented before (photo by Yves Adams).

There also appears to be some documentation of the condition in peafowl, though it's much less known.

Erythrism (excess red pigmentation)
This mutation is less rare than the former, and also generally appears more natural so it could be applied with far more versatility. Some animals that apply have this condition labelled as "strawberry blonde".

Plains zebra would also make use of this new variant

One or both of the tigers in-game could get a golden tabby variant under this name too (photo by Tambako The Jaguar)

Of course, melanism is worth mentioning, though currently that seems to be part of the now umbrella "albino" group.

What are some other rare variants that might be worth adding to the game?

Addendum: a couple for Erythristic cases that could be added.
Peafowl once again show up, as some are specifically bred for a uniquely "peach" look.

(Sidenote: I've come across this photo a lot too, though I'm not 100% if it's legitimate or doctored)

Both Formosan black bears and giant pandas could also get erythristic variants.

I'm pretty sure the Picture of that extremely red Peacock is a Fake. As far as I know there is no documented Case about one like that really existing.
The other ones are all real, including the first Peafowl Picture.
The Panda is a Subspecies though. The Qinling Panda of which only one Specimen was kept in Captivity so far

A few more:
The most obvious one that came to mind for me was a King Cheetah. I've always thought it was weird we didn't get this morph in base game.

For Springbok, the Black and Copper morphs would be interesting

Wildebeest have a golden morph (I know this photo is a blue wildebeest, but as far as I can tell it also occurs in black wildebeest):

Gemsbok also have an erythristic morph:

There have been a few cases of bright orange American Alligators:

Flamingos and King Penguins can both be completely melanistic:

And last but not least, Dingos have a whole host of interesting color variations!

I'd love to see a dingo colormorph revamp to tie in with a future Oceania Animal Pack. Actually being able to appreciate their full range of coats would almost certainly reverse my current lack of enthusiasm towards them.

Also, I may be wrong here, but isn't that erythristic panda actually a Qinling panda, which is considered a different subspecies? ...And now that I'm reading back, it looks like that was already pointed out. That's what I get for just looking at the pretty pictures, lol.

Those are all really awesome Examples which I'd like to see. I do especially want the King Cheetah, the melanistic King Penguin (they could also additionally give us a white/yellow one) and the black-tan Dingo. Didn't know about those Springbocks that do only have a dark Head. The black Flamingo might also be interesting in the Game.

the orange alligator was caused by outside factors not genetics, likely hanging out in water with a lot of rust or sediments. however melanistic alligators are a thing and would be super cool to see.
Also Frontier please add the black color morph of grey wolves please
There are also African Cave Crocodiles that are orange. It seems like they got their Color because there's lots of Bat Poo in the Water or something similar

Piebaldism with the same system as llamas! For

Indian peafowl
Moose
Alligator
Reindeer
Penguins
Bison would also be nice
I'd also like a multicolor Llama that is something like brown and black, black and Grey or brown and Grey instead of just white and brown.

This was the closest I could find for black wildebeest, which I'm gonna say is close enough for it to count as erythrism

I also found similar cases for both sable antelope and nyalas.

Wow, I'd love to have that Wildebeest in the Game

Coat colors are caused by pigments (melanins) that consist of black pigment (eumelanin) and red pigment (phaeomelanin). Pigments on a hair can be black, red, a combination of them, or lack pigment alltogether (and be white).

Some pigment changes are:

  • only red pigments show, black pigments suppressed.
  • Red pigments shade intensity variation, ranging from dark red to so light it is almost white, black pigments unaffected.

  • only black pigments show, red pigments suppressed.
  • Black pigments show as brown / chocolate / rust ('brown' mutation), red pigments unaffected.
  • Black pigments show as blue / grey ('dilute' mutation), red pigments unaffected.
  • Black pigments show as cinnamon / isabella (both 'brown' and 'dilute' are active), red pigments unaffected.

- no pigments show at all, red pigments and black pigments suppressed (albino).

And all of this is aside from pattern variation...! In short, we've got more than a ton of possibilities for color morphs and coat color variation ❤️
