If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

That's exactly what I say every time someone starts a new thread under this same, repetitive topic....

But I'll play along.

"If I wanted mining game, I would have rather bought a pickaxe!"

"If I wanted a trading game, I would rather bought a table at the flea market!"

"If I wanted a sit and do nothing for 30 minutes game (supercruise), I would rather bought a Lazyboy recliner!"

Thankfully this game is full of stuff I do like, so all of the above is just cheap whine (like the OP).

Well...

I like the new mining setup. I don't have a mining pick, but I do have a dozen mattocks and can tell you from personal experience how much fun it is to actually 'mine' your way through meters of riverine or boulder clay - if you ever want to compare that to the new mining setup in ED.

I also am becoming somewhat more endeared with trading vs haulage missions, but I don't have table at the flea market. I do, however, spend more time than is probably healthy volunteering my time 'trading' information at local conferences.

I also have a leather recliner! Does anyone actually play ED without one?

And, I don't mind cheap wine, sometimes - I lost track of how many bottles of cheap M&S mulled wine went through me this holiday season.

You can. Honk still works and all the info's in the wave scanner. People are just talking cobblers about a new thing they subjectively dislike to try to make it go away.

hmmm. So you are saying its exactly the same after you use the FSS?

Please don't insult people or groups of people, it is not an endearing trait.

You mean like how most of the anti-FSS crowd insults FDev?

Don't get me wrong, I've sent my fair share of witty jabs at Frontier, but this "playing the victim card" while at the same time insulting the individuals who worked very hard to give us the FSS (something many of us love), that is not an endearing trait.

And yet there seems to be a number of variations on "you can still explore the old way so there is no problem" Somebody is wrong. I dont know which side it is but there is certainly confusion.

I do agree that the lack of understanding about how both old & new systems work is significant. It's understandable & misunderstandings can be corrected by those that are better informed, but there is no need to berate people for having an opinion.

As Stigbob quite rightly points out, there is no hive-mind, only individuals with opinions & playstyles that sometimes line up, sometimes don't. Not everyone is brilliant at putting their views across either.

Nah - bigger issue (for me) is Geo poi taking 20 seconds to resolve - which adds up, and is like paint drying. Sadly our elite whinge squad is still mainly bothered by radios, so not much traction on actual issues yet :(

Think that is a networking issue, no a designed feature.
GEO poi are persistent and loaded from server.

Yes i think it’s awful. Stopped playing ED as I was out exploring but tuning that stupid 2d blob hunt has put me right off.

insults FDev

If they have ignored all concerns about the new changes all the way thru beta and ever sinse. Be odd if they were listening to percieved insults when they ignore everything else wouldnt it?

I see that a dev chose to reply to another thread shortly after the megathread was closed down. I think that is their reply tbh so harsh words are unlikely to make any difference. If the situation is already lost... why should i care?

Can you put me a link to that other thread please.
I'm interested.

I like Enderby. I kinda wish he had this "Elephant Butt Leather" and "Flashing Disco Shadows" that I suffer from, as we would easily bond over our shared misery.

I hope EBL will be part of a cockpit upgrade game element one day.

At the very least, "elephant butt leather" better be in the source code comments or the git commit message, if and when Frontier ever fixes it :p

I'll trade you EBL for the one I've just been getting recently in the Clipper. For about 5-7 seconds, the cockpit becomes blindingly oversaturated with white light, like my avatar is having a near-death experience. Never seen that before.

...As you have no doubt realised by now, the old stuff was needlessly removed & could be put back in.

I disagree. You keep repeating this over and over, as if it's some kind of established fact, rather than just your strongly held opinion. It was removed to accommodate more/different gameplay during exploration - specifically during the system-discovery phase of exploration which is now a longer and more involved process. Simply putting it back would defeat the whole point of the new system - the existence of some manner of gameplay interaction during the system-discovery phase of exploration - the ADS completely undermines that by providing a module which completes this phase at the press of a button.

As for the mantra "putting it back in wouldn't affect anyone who prefers the new system" - I disagree. Anyone using the ADS would be on a different playing field than non-users when it comes to certain types of exploration. Let's not pretend that exploration is in no way a competitive venture - it always has been, from the earliest days when European ships set off to discover new lands. There is an undercurrent of that in ED, and the ADS allows for much faster quick-evaluation of a system when looking for certain patterns. So, yes it very well could affect anyone who wasn't using the ADS, but was searching for the same patterns because (deny it if you like) being the first to discovery, explore and share something new and spectacular is a part of exploration. Simply reintroducing the ADS would also introduce, for the first time, an exploration meta build for rapid first discovery and detailed scanning - ADS for instant system map resolution followed by FSS for rapid detailed scans.

Personally, I hope they don't capitulate and simply put the old ADS back in. Not because I don't have any sympathy for those who can't seem to envision exploring without it, but because I can see why it was removed in order to move the game forward - it's hard to deny the FSS has added a whole new phase of active gameplay to exploration - system-discovery. Combined with the new DSS, which adds another (optional) phase to exploration - mapping - I think the FSS makes sense (regardless of how rubbish I am at it after a few pints and how completely incompatible it is with 'Netflix Exploration' - which I have been guilty of on occasion).
