Modes If Open is to get something exclusive then PG and Solo also need something

Solo and Private Group players do get something. We get a relief to the constant whine from the usual suspects bleating how they want "meaningful" PvP. I mean, I doubt Open Only Powerplay will do this, but then again, I am not the one claiming it will. To the complaint: we want meaningful PvP, we can reply: you got Powerplay.

It won't be enough. The goalposts will simply move to all those "exploiters" working the BGS in PG/solo. Oh, wait, it won't move, they are already saying it.

And let's say the BGS becomes Open only, then i (and i'm sure others) will still not move to open. Just less things to do. Then they will have to find another reason to complain about the lack of targets... then what? Exploration tagging only in Open? Those filthy explorers tagging systems where they can't be stopped from tagging them! If only they were in Open we could stop them tagging systems.

The fundamental reason there are not enough targets for PP and BGS is simple. Size of play area vs number of players.

But hey, if FD want to experiment with this, let's see where it goes in terms of PP.

I'm very interested in seeing the results of this.

If it stops the demands, i'll be very surprised though.

The complete separation of the BGS from PP. Open affects PP PG/Solo affect BGS

This ^^^

If Power Play == Combatative PvP == Open then, fine. But let's only have Solo/PG affect the BGS. Then people can choose their mode of play:

- Direct Power v Power with PvP
- Indirect Influencing in Solo or Collaborative PvE

And neither gets in the other's way.

Oh I'm not saying it will stop demands, that will never happen. I'm just saying we will probably get a counter to those claims. Lets say they implement this in Q4, won't be long before the novelty wears of and PvPers find themselves needing to PvE, since that's what Powerplay still is in it's core. You see people post how Open only will make Powerplay one big meaningful fragfest, but they are indeed as you say not taking into account the size of the playing area and the number of players in it.

After the euphoria, the reality sets in. And perhaps they will indeed focus on the BGS or demand mechanics designed for PvP (which is the way Frontier should have gone in my opinion, but it seems they're taking the easy cop out route). If this experiment fails, we'll have a precedent. I wish an interesting future for Frontier in this regard.

What does worry me is, if this is the way Frontier improves core mechanics, I am not very hopeful in the exploration updates.

I think that if they want to make pp open only, then they can hook the match making system to it as well.

Pledged to a power = can only be in instances with others pledged.
Not pledged =can only see those not pledged.

Then those who want pp open only so bad, won't effect other open players.

And the modules from pp shouldn't work vs none pp players.

Pretty much my thoughts. Unless FD also make changes to the impact of PvP on PP, then its going to remain a massive PvE grindfest.

But time will tell.

Anyway, i see this thread is a dud, since nobody is actually discussing the topic. :(

To be honest, in light of what Ziggy is saying, there is not much added to the game with this path..and it means that it removes a little bit of PVE content from those that will not play in Open.

The quid pro quo should be no larger than what the loss would be...in most cases...not much, right?

I'm putting forward a proposal for the following:

Open Power Play Mode : PvP + Power Play
Open Community Mode : PvE + Community Goals

After all, if Power Play is "designed to generate meaningful PvP" then Community Goals are "designed to generate collaborative PvE" - so if Power Play needs to be protected from offline players then Community Goals needs to be protected from PvP players.

Woo hoo!

On the other hand they don't have the benefit of making things easier by winging up with other players. Touche?

Open is easy against NPCs in wings. You can absoloutely dominate a CZ with a wing in Open. Not possible in solo.

Also no reward of meeting people. Remember the mantra, open is great because of all the cool things that can only happen with other people! Open is its own reward!

I can count the times I've winged with my buddies on one hand and still fingers left over since 3.0. I know you think that's an effective counter-point but it's really not.

I so wish I had a rep button.
I love this idea

It's easily done as well. Frontier creates an official private community group with official no PvP rules. Because it's official it can be enforced.

I fully support the idea of NPC wingmen for Solo, not so sure on PG's (multiplayer) as they have the option to Wing up already.

Nothing, those from other groups need to have the good grace to see ED is changing and to accept a open only game.

To quote from elite own advertising: " play YOUR way. 400 billion star systems, infinite freedom, blaze YOUR own trail "

NO. we should not have to accept an open only game........i have no intentions of * enhancing * the gameplay of pvp`ers, gankers, murderhobo`s, pirates or anyone else at the expense of my own gameplay.
