Modes If Open is to get something exclusive then PG and Solo also need something

Thats not how the game was designed. PvP is a core functionality, this is one of the reasons there is no Open PVE and PvP is availble everywhere except solo.

If that was the case, why does direct PvP remain (at this time) totally optional - in all aspects of the game (apart from CQC, naturally)?

Even if PowerPlay is made Open Only - Sandro has indicated that it would just be PowerPlay, nothing else....

It will benefit those who want fair fights and not a grind competition in PGs.

It will benefit players who prefer PvP, certainly.

I think you need to reread what i wrote.

And dear gods, i can undermine a power's morale just by joining a power? Hey, maybe we can weaponize this!

Ok power leaders! Who wants to start the bidding? I'll join an enemy power for you to undermine their morale! What am i offered?

I've read it several times. How about you go ahead and explain to me what I'm missing?

And yes, any leader worth their salt should see your proposed actions could be toxic to the chemistry of their group and take appropriate steps to eliminate it.

Lock PP to open, lock PvP to Solo.

Job done :D

Actually, lock PvP to PG.

You would have to contact the commander and issue a challenge, they would accept and it would flip both of you to a PG.

If someone jumps to a system where there is an active PvP PG, an option comes up before the jump is initiated that askes if they want the open or PG instance

If someone undocks from a station in a system where there is an active PvP PG, same thing.

If either is in a wing, all wing members would be given the option to switch to the PG, if they decline, they drop from the wing automatically.

If you are pledged to a power and decline, all merits you are currently carrying vanish.

Coding nightmare would probably be high for this...

Never mind that it's a crap idea!

No need, we already have this PG its called open mode.

Let me explain again then.

And i'll just quote what i said for anyone not following this little aside:

To be hoenst,l it might be interesting joining the power where the most agressive PPers sign up with, and see if they can resist shooting me, or whether they really are interested in PP as a mechanic or PP as a principle.

So, I would sign up with a power, and go about doing the stuff for that power. No backstabbing. No 5th columning. Genuinely working for that power.

And so, i'm flying along, and see CMDR Phisto Sobanii and say "o7 comrade!". Because we are working for the same power.

Now, at that point, does CMDR Phisto Sobanii think "Grrrr! That's Agony, forget that we are allies, i want to kill him!"? So he does so, and he now has a bounty with his own power and actually hurt his own power's efforts. Either because he simply cannot resist going after a known "carebear" or because of forum arguments he's had with him.

OR does he say "O7 comrade! Hey, you're not very good at PvP as i understand. How about I escort you? Make sure those deliveries get through!" and thus, helping his power and an ally.

In your own words, you said you would do the former rather than doing what you should do, which is the latter.

Who, in this case is the one undermining the morale of a powers players?

Thank about it ;)

Thats more applicable to your kind, is it not?
I mean a multiplayer feature is being tsken away from solo players. The horror. The shock.
3 years too late.

Power Play has a lot of PvE mechanics to it as well, always has. Many PP players didn't see it as a PvP feature, thus they are upset at the prospect of either losing PP completely or being forced to potentially PvP when they don't want to.

And your use of the word "kind" is insulting. We are all Elite Dangerous players, we all want to enjoy the game. Let's stop this divisive nonsense please, it just serves to further poison this already hurting community.

Agree, so how about we stop putting salt in our eyes when 1 out 100 activities will get a PvP attention it deserves. I am amazed of all the solo Power Players that suddenly immerged when the PvP crowd might get some content. Pathetic at best.

The massive support that the feedback thread had both here and reddit just shows that you are a vocal minorty and not the PvPiers.

It speaks volumes about the attitude Waffle has, as if we were some kind of "Lesser" player because we do not PVP. And PVPers will still have to PVE for PP but don't seem to realize that all they can really see is "open only" it seems.

You are right.. maybe 1 out of 100 activities in PP may be PVP... all the rest is PVE... And many solo/PG players would love for PVPers to get content, but NOT by pulling the rug out from under everyone else to get it.

PP deemed unpopular in its current format, no reason to keep something that clearly doesn't work.

The positive feedback from the suggestion thread proved that PvP is very popular.

The actual #'s of people in Elite participating in it though may offer a largely different statistic. I will have to see if I can find it, but more than once Frontier has let it slip that more people are in Solo than in Open if i remember correctly, and even those in Open, not all enjoy PVP.. so *shrug*

Among a small number of forum users. That may, or may not, be representative of the player-base as a whole - although one cannot assume that every user who posted about the topic at all actually owns the game.

The best way to gauge the opinion of the player-base is to conduct an official poll, as was done for ship transfer - that guarantees that only those who have bought the game can vote.
