If someone from Fdev streams themselves unlocking all the Guardian tech. I will eat my eye patch.

Normally whenever some one makes a thread complaining about the grindy engineer gameplay, some forum dad makes a smug reply along the lines of, 'Well I didn't know engineers were required gameplay?'

So incase it hasn't happened yet:

Well I didn't know guardian modules were required gameplay? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can play without them, go do something else, etc etc.

/s

So nothing is required gameplay which makes the argument nonsense LOL

So the answer that you'll find ONLY in ED is that "you don't have to play it".

In normal, fun, gaming land, nobody ever says anything about not having to play a game mechanic. I can't think of a game, other than Black Desert (which is an MMO) where it applies. Every other game I have played has been fun without ever having to say anything ridiculous like "well you don't have to play it"

Especially if it's a brand new feature!

And let's not forget this is ED's major story line here is it not? Something that's been planned since day 1.

None of it is required gameplay. Just do stuff you enjoy doing. If you don't enjoy any of it, then I doubt you ever will do no matter what they put into the game. The game is all about choices. You do not need guardian tech to play parts of the game and the same goes for grade 5 enginneered modules. I myself played for over a year without engineered modules without issues. All the engineers do is make the current stuff even easier to do.

They are not a requirement to open up other parts of the game like other traditional MMO's.

TBF, Ed (or even Brett) doesn't deserve that level of pain.

An active ED developer should be forced to do it.

Whoever made the decision to put it in like this is the OLNY person that should have to suffer it. It's not fair to make someone else do it as they may have been against the decision. The decision maker really, really needs to be the one so they understand just how bad a game mechanic it is.

Oh dear!

You know the totally honest reason that I keep coming back to this forum, having given up on the game around 8 months ago now I think, is that I might come on one day and find a lot of jubilant forum members spamming thread after thread, post after post about how FDev have got their their feces together and sorted the game out.

Maybe one day....... Maybe....

Let's be real, about 80% of playing Elite is posting on the forum, so you're only missing 20% of the gameplay anyhow.

Sandro, most likely. He’s responsible for most of the poor design choices in 3.0 (grindgeneering, KWS re-work, etc.).

ROFLMAO!!

Actually ADSL sucks and some people just don't have fibre and good uploads which sucks - not even sure there's a reason for it other than shareholder profits.

Lots of telco's are letting copper rot in the ground.

We'll regret it.

I can arrange a twelve week vacation for him, at Parris Island. :)

And again... What if what you enjoy doing *requires* you to do the stuff you don't like? Want an example? I like to explore, especially on the fringes of the galaxy. that is one of my things. To do it effectively, I *have to* search for mats for FSD boosts. Now, that requires me to drive the SRV for hours on end searching for mats with the use of a fairly poor search mechanic to begin with, but one where they also decided to turn the volume down on the sensor to make it even more annoyingly grindy - but that's not my problem.

My problem, is that driving the SRV makes me sick. Like, as in I want to throw up sick. It takes about 30-40 minutes, and after that, I need to lie down. How much arsenic do you reckon I usually find in 30-40 minutes, on an arsenic rich (2.4%+) planet? Usually, zero. the reality is, sadly, there is simply no way to find arsenic in any way, shape, or form, that I enjoy.

Thus, to do what I enjoy, which is to get to and explore the most far out systems I possibly can, I *must* perform this activity, a stupid number of times, so that I can actually do what I want to do.

Is this so difficult to understand? Some of us actually have to grind, despite our hatred, to do things we want to do, so we can play our own way. It's all well and good playing Capt. Smug, because you're not affected by motion sickness, or PvP is not your thing, and randomly flying about doing whatever gets you exactly what you need - but that's *your* play style, that's playing *your* way, not my way.

This is what so many of the "don't grind" folk don't get. And again, for the record, because someone always throws it in, it's not about wanting an iWin button, or everything at once, we just want to actually be able to enjoy the process, remember - if it's fun, it's not a grind, no matter how long it takes.

Z...

If only FD would follow through on their designs! Most features of Elite are still just foundations for better iterations and storylines.

That's why we're getting Beyond now which should address all of this and fix everything...

In a year.

“Play your own way”. Still can’t believe that they used this as a tagline, what with the extremely limited ways in which one can interact with the lifeless galaxy.

And that was before this awful guardians business.

Used? They're still using it, mate - check their website.

Well done for missing the point, again.

Criticism towards a feature, or a piece of content, or a gameplay element is not conditioned by how much or how well it connects to other bits of the game.

If the inbound Krait spaceship in-game model turns out to be some D-shaped monstrosity full of veins with clown shoes for landing gear and a spoiler stolen from the Type-10, you bet your I'm still going to criticize it no matter how much people will try to convince me that I don't have to acquire it in-game if I don't like it.

A stream of themselves unlocking guardian tech implies grinding for it, spending a gaming session or two focused on nothing but that, which is the opposite of how the game is meant to be played. You're not supposed to set your mind on just one thing and go for it hardcore until you hate the game.

You think forcing the devs to adopt your game style will prove your point that the game is too grindy? All it will prove is that any game style overly focused on achievements is a stupid way to go about playing video games.

"Everyone who plays the game different than me is doing it wrong: The irrational fanboy's guide to dangerous discussion."

I'll humor you, lets say I don't try and grind out the guardian items, but I still want them. How am I supposed to go about getting them?

Let's see... I could travel 600LY, do a guardian site once, go back to the bubble, do some other things, and then what? Go out to the same site and do that again? Wait until the devs add more guardian sites? Or am I just supposed to ignore the guardian stuff altogether until some miracle I manage to get 8 blueprints and 42 other mats? The only options concerning the new guardian content is to either ignore it, grind it, or have been one of the lucky few who were able to unlock t due to the glitch that was patched. No matter how you slice it it is bad content.
