IF Space Legs, Atmospheric Planets and Base Building are not part of New Era...

Layers of mechanics and visuals to procedurally render involved diverse atmospheric worlds (& ice planets obviously).

Layers of more involved mechanics and deeper gameplay just being added to the game, anywhere, ideally the core gameplay, after a lull of nigh on 4+ years.

I can think of other features which might easily take two years and have been hinted at as things they might want to do ... but it would be virtually impossible for them to be "fenced off" for a chargeable DLC ...

Hi there Ian,
fellow Cmdrs

most of you've been around much longer than I, let me ask you out of curiosity, how was it prior to horizons? ( I started with horizons back in 2018) What I mean is, were there pleasant surprises in the release no one saw coming, or was everthing leaked before? I like good surprises. ;)

Not everything was leaked, but there was a lot more info on ongoing developments. There were also much more frequent content releases.

WoW lost me when extreme stats on top of resil made 5 minute fights turn into 20 minute infinite rejuv fests going through your rotations over and over till someone messed up or got careless.

The more bullet spongy and immune we get the less fun combat becomes (For me).

I hope whatever happens the game is expanded without doubling down on time to kill.

That's not really how I remember 2015. CQC and Powerplay was a surprise for all of us, generally we didn't know about an update until a few weeks before release. In terms of content, frequency and communication I'd say Beyond / 2018 was the best year so far.

Agreed.

My favorite combat ever was in Stalker Call of Prypiat and the very first Ghost Recon game, where you could die from a single well-placed bullet, but so did NPCs.

On the other hand, a game like Fallout 4 is completely unplayable for me without the "War never changes" mod (and several others) that gets rid of bullet sponges (both the player and npcs).

A few weeks before release is actually a lot when you get content releases every 2/3 months like in the first year.

New Era…
What could that mean?
A paradigm shift in the galaxy? A total reset of trading? A new start for everyone? A jump 100 years into the future? Benevolent alien overlords? …?

To call something A New Era demands it to be spectacular. One can only hope it is

1.0: December 16th 2014
1.1: February 10th 2015
1.2: March 10th 2015

:p
True, but 1.1 was basically just increasing the route plotter from 100 to 1000ly. Imagine Frontier would sell that as an update these days... :D

PS
And CGs. I remember how people hated those though.

And to this day, nigh on fives years on, CGs are still being flogged and rebadged for all their worth, with little/no improvement of note...

Here there is a big IF, because tbh all discussions about Legs and Base Building come from an unofficial leak and, even worse, atmospheric planets is purely players speculation.
So what IF the New Era of Elite Dangerous is about none of the three?

Let's prepare ourselves to a B-Plan: with such a "big" manpower of roughly 80 developers working at this project for more than 2 years, what would you expect or wish to see as an alternate content release?

If none of the three are in there, then we're probably looking at a complete re-write of the game from the ground up. However, do you see many of the existing players sticking around if at least one of these items arn't implemented.
