If you could make one change to E:D

Well, this thread showcases one thing more than any other thread. The wishes of the various players are directly contradicting each other and irreconcilable. We'd all be better off if we just went separate ways to different games that are more to everyone's individual liking.

And that we seem incapable of compromise...

It means Fdev cannot appease all the players without destroying the game. So they are better off desineing the game following their own philosophy and make what they produce compelling enough to win players over no matter the amount of bitter tears on the forum.
Can't argue with that. Best start saving up all those salty tears then, to thaw the ice, since it'll be a cold day in hell before most of this forum is won over.

Where is the common ground with someone wanting to remove open because people complain about how others play? The compromise is just being more tolerant, not any change to the game.

I think there's been lots of good ideas that are compatible & workable, very few have been contentious and those that have (as with yours) have been knowingly contentious.

Eventually the servers will be switched off and those looking for a game unaffected by other players may well get what they want. I play as much as I do because I know that one day I will no longer be able to.

Mine was in response to years of demands that open be the one true mode. Open has caused more salt in this forum than any other topic including politics and religion. Open is in essence already ruining what would otherwise have been the BDSSE

I don't agree with making the game open only but there is logic to it. Removing open when it's already there makes no sense, you can just not use it if you don't like it, Open is just the absence of filters. If you don't like to read complaints just ignore them, I do if I don't care about the outcome.

It is very easy to isolate yourself if you are fed up with other people. It is much harder to engage with people that don't know whether you can be trusted. That's a challenge worth rising to, not trying to shut people up when you can just stop listening if you don't care.

As long as Frontier isn't bought out by EA or something, I think there's a fair chance the servers will be up for quite a while. Unfortunately, once the servers do go down, I doubt Frontier will provide off-line patches or open server hosting support.

A tangent to the topic. Just my take.

It is a possibility, I agree it isn't likely. When MMO servers are shut down usually nobody wins, but sometimes they do :)

Player vs Player crime resulting in bounty missions being assigned to players scaling with notoriety.

Please make bounty hunting profession a fleshed out experience with new modules for player tracking (Maybe last know locations as spotted by security forces and station scans). As the notoriety rises the amount of simultaneous missions assigned to a single player goes up resulting in survival cat and mouse game play.

Could really breathe some life into the game and create some fun emergent gameplay between criminals and law types. Add big rewards and g5 mats for the biggest offenders but randomize the way missions are given out and hide the offenders actual name until combat but disable communication between people taking the bounty mission and assigned marks to prevent exploitation of the bounty system.

Could entirely rejuvenate the game and make things exciting with mostly existing mechanics. Wouldn't cost big development dollars like space legs and atmospherics.

Unique rewards, ships, ranks, insignia, cosmetics to the best players on both sides.

I mention two things but they are so connected that I think we can consider them to be one.

The single change with the largest consequences would be: a server-client network infrastructure and cross-play between the three platforms. Turn Elite into a real MMO.
