If you think ED's too difficult...

If enough customers (the ones who buy the game, pay for the development and usually facilitate the exit strategy of the business) think its too hard, then they wont bother to learn.

The game will fail. No more Elite content = not happy fanboys.

Simple.

Most gamers have the attention span of an epileptic flea.

After all my woes and tribulations a few weeks back getting totally disillusioned because I couldn't do the single player mission 3 I tried again over the w/e. Did it on the 2nd attempt. The difference being I used a proper monitor and not a TV, seems the TV has a large latency (~100ms)

Hopefully onwards and upwards now :)

..

No shame in it. That's why Angry Birds and FarmVille is so popular.

But... and here's the big BUT... if you WANT to stick at it - invest TIME, MONEY AND THOUGHT into in, practice, and ACCEPT you're going to get blown to kingdom come more times than you've had hot dinners UNTIL you learn some nifty fighting / trading / hiding techniques OF YOUR OWN... then welcome and lets have a great experience together.

Actually not 100% sure what you want to try to say. From reading your post though you seem in fear that ED will not become some sort of space sim but rather a crappy flash game with a scifi setting, online store containing p2w items. Set in an alt scifi universe involving spaceships.

Despite the fact that not a single dev post, blog post, youtube vid or the time I spent playing ED myself underpin that theory.
Ever heard about a game called Eve Online. People who don't like it don't play it. Even nobody told them, crazy...

It's just another Bell curve. As with most human activities there will be a wide range of competence and ability. If you can have fun even though you suck, as long as you have the right attitude, it's all good.

yes,it is too difficult...

Recently I saw an interview of David braben where as he was showing a mission in which he got blown off and he said " well ,that's the price you pay for this mercenary missions" .well if the maker of the game can't play it then it sure is difficult and definitely not fun .In my opinion Mr braben and Mr Roberts should spend a little time playing on the ps1 colony wars with the dual analog joystick (not pad),perhaps then they 'll remember that games are supposed to be fun.I 'm certain that real pilots have real planes to fly...

yes,it is too difficult...

And if my previous suggestion about colony wars is too old fashioned then try playing galaxy on fire 2 ...

If the maker of a game can be challenged by it, and risk losing if he pushes his luck, then it's a good and challenging game. Surely, you don't want a guarantee to win, do you? That'd be very very boring. And surely you're not saying that because Braben was blown up in his own game a few times, the game is too hard?

Real pilots have real planes to fly, but many real pilots also play combat flight sims as a hobby, because they get to take risks and have some excitement they can't have in a risk-averse profession like professional pilot.

If you want to see the result when a promising game takes a wrong turn by trying to be too "inclusive" and "easy," then take a look at what happened with the X:Rebirth space sim, and the Microsoft Flight civilian flight sim. Both failures, because they tried to be too easy, too simplified, and turned off the hardcore fans who support these games.

Welcome! :)

The maker of the game got blown up... but that is very different to "can't play it".

If David Braben was effectively indestructible due to familiarity, he'd be bored out of his brain in-game.

Being destroyed should always be a risk, even for players very familiar with the game. Therein lies the challenge.

And the fun.

Trial and error my friend.. I remember ramming my sidewinder into the station walls at 80 m/s now I boost through with my anaconda with no problems.. Other than the occasional murder of some npc stuck in between and in my way.

 Gamer Grrl Rants are just so.. adorable!

But yeah its true. I wholeheartedly approve that Elite refuses to hold anyone's hand on how to play the game and be successful.

It is a meme of "Metagaming Darwinism". Those that are unfit get discarded via frustration and abject game cruelty. Only the True Grit survive, and thrive among the supposed cruelty.

And thus the gamer community retains a certain... sophistication. Those that give up or nerd rage easily really dont deserve the experience.

But we thank you for the contribution of backer $$$ nevertheless.

Hi Folks
I have had to perform some moderation to this thread. Lets leave out off topic comments please and stick to the subject of the thread, thanks.

The subject is "I'm better than you, nyahh nyahh na na na" ?

Obviously a troll baited pit of Sarlacc. Hitler Godwin rules. (*nb Hitler)

Right, for a start, you shouldn't presume sexism where there isn't any.
Oh God, thank you.

I find it adorable that silly phrases like "Willy Club" are A-OK but "Lads" is somewhat crossing the line and justifies a "look I'm female, please notice that I am female!!!" outburst.

Also, as we know, everyone who has a feminine avatar or name or claims to be female is also a female in real life.
After all, this is the internet.
All you read is true...

Anyways she/he/it (doesn't matter) has a point:
A handful of people complained about the game being difficult.
Let's make a thread and completely overreact!

No sorry, won't buy.

Oh, Ms. Summers, before I forget:
Some Months ago, there already was a "Boo hoo it's all so hard!" thread.
A thread where you, in the flesh, gave "+1000 rep".

Why do you open a thread while another thread about the same topic is still open?

Especially when you give advise like this to others:
There are already countless threads about this already...

Sorry, it is hard to take you serious.
And WRITING CAPS and using MANY EXCLAMATION MARKS!!!!!! in every second post of yours won't help - neither does the huge amount of passive aggressiveness and hostility towards those who won't share your opinion, or rubbing into peoples faces how terribad they are and how easy everything is for you. ;)
(Just went quickly through your posts cause something smelled fishy...)

Have a nice day, though.

Tl;dr: This thread is rather pointless.

As far as someone never being ever to learn something, I have a much more optimistic viewpoint on things. I can understand someone never being able to learn something on their own, which is one thing.

But anyone, with or without help, can certainly learn how to play this game. Just ask around! A lot of people around here are friendly! =D

I've seen so many games just become glorified pump and dump schemes to satisfy the average casual gamers quick attention span and willingness to play with their wallets.

David Braben seems to be a breath of fresh air not trying to gain as many players as possible in the shortest amount of time. He understand a good quality and long lasting game will draw in players on it's own. It's like he is making his dream game without the crap the gaming industry has become accustomed to.

The things you speak of leads to the game quality degrading while the price is increasing. People like you never seem to understand that many players have fun in simulation games. The reason we sim players have fun playing simulators is because of what we do in game. Another few reasons are that skill really matters, you have to actually earn things and not every moment of the game feels like an adrenaline rush. You talk about amazing moment for months with your friends while games like battlefield are setup to have constant epic moment. Messing around with realistic features can be million times more fun than messing around with non realistic features. Non sim players sometimes think they are entitled to throw sim players under the bus while most sim players let themselves be thrown under the bus without so much as a fight. I have bought so many games with the hope the sim players wouldn't just let themselves be thrown under the bus, and I truly hope Elite Dangerous will be the first game that sim gamers fight back and let people know realistic and hard is fun to many!

There are so many people out there surely thinking "But, what about press X to win? Surely that's enough! Pressing X takes effort! If pressing X to win takes too long, then throwing mummy's credit card to accelerate the X button is the only solution!" :)

I have also seen people asking why skill doesn't increase with game-time. I honestly cannot understand that. Play more, learn more. Skill is a function of you - not the game.
