Ignoring or harming PvP in game design is contributing to ganking

I'd prefer superpower wide very long say month in real time notoriety, and people with high notoriety not being able to dock at stations in superpower controlled areas at all. (Likewise if notoriety is against single independent system it would mean you are not going to dock stations in such systems.) If you try, it would be request denied, and station opening fire. And notoriety should be against commander, not ship.

I personally believe that the timer lock-out is such a bad, VERY BAD, "griefer deterrent". I may hate griefers/gankers, but cmon, they spent $30($60 if they got Horizons) on the game just like the rest of us. Despite their despicable choice of gameplay, they shouldn't be punished in the way of basically "soft banning" them for ANY amount of time.

Notoriety isn't a soft ban.

It prevents the player from clearing fines and bounties on their ship.

So, say I'm doing some wetwork for a NPC or blasting a surface installation. If I'm doing a mission my activities will generate fines and bounties and I'll be wanted, and even hunted, but I can visit an Interstellar Factor, pay the fines and I'm golden.

If I'm not covered by a mission, and I say blow up some obnoxious police or whatever, I'll gain notoriety. Each point takes an hour or two of play in that ship to clear. While notorious I'll get interdicted a lot more.

However,

I can switch ships and be like nothing happened.

It's annoying, but not punitive.

Grind is a personal choice, besides all you need are the components and you can be gathering them as you go.
I'm sure many players have more than they will ever use and at the moment they have no use at all once you have your upgrade.
Considering how much mats you need for g5 module, I don't think there are many people having too much mats...

but I can visit an Interstellar Factor
You cannot pay off fines anywhere, even with Intersteller Factors, if you have ANY notoriety on you until it runs out. That's what I meant. That's what makes it such a stupid idea. It only inspires more griefing behavior. Since I'd imagine some of these types are the kind to go EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE all over the forums about OOPP and the like just because some newbie blocked him after being blown up, then take his frustration out by blowing up more ez ships and fueling the fire that is the PvE carebear side of things. Ugh please no, I'd like to see some new material in the forums for a change.

What are you on about? I described how without notoriety you can pay off bounties and fines and you are upset by what?

I really don't know but I do see a lot of posts about "maxing out mats".
It's the risk rewards thing. Right now you can make a super duper ship and take it in harms way without any fear of losing all your hard work and you can use it to destroy someone's weeks/months of work in exploration.

If you are playing in open then you have consented to interaction, including hostile interaction, with other players. That is a risk inherent in that game mode.

That has nothing to do with the removal of a player's ability to play their game in the manner they choose due to the actions of other players.

That's on you, my friend. You should look at the back of the box and check the ingredients next time you go buying groceries

I did :

My system would drive them to either gathering credit activities or bankcruptcy. It would get pretty expensive hobby fast.
Well I haven't read / understood the whole thread. But I don't want to eliminate ganking and have the funds again for a couple more Imperial Cutter rebuys.
But I opened a "mitigate" thread under Suggestions with a small - suggestion.

It does if you include getting shot at interdicted or blown up. If you do not wish to be targeted in pvp you need to get to a private group or solo. Just like if you want to dock at a medium pad on a platform, you can't, in open, if I get there first.

As for your other post, being interdicted or blown up in game, in open, is not harassment. The term has a leg definition set by Frontier.
