Im done.

I have one question. Was your ship loss at 200 hours your first and only loss? I’m a new player and I lost x2 vipers while learning to fight in hi res site but I had enough for several rebuys before I went out. I was very conscious of the rebuy status. I don’t understand how 200 hours in this mistake could be made.

Flying without rebuy is easier to do (accidentally) with bigger ships, it takes longer to earn the cash to cover the rebuy cost so it's tempting to just say 'I'm sure it will be fine'. And often it is. But sometimes it isn't.

It's a painful lesson to learn, but I like that the game offers the opportunity to take the risk :)

Wow, I would love to see ED incorporate that - I mean the escape pod mechanic, not the cassette tape saves. :D I hope we get an Ironman mode this year in one of the smaller updates.

Amusingly, NPC's also occasionally dropped escape pods after you blew their ship up. You could ignore the pod, or blow it up (which apparently counted towards combat rank) or scoop it and then sell the occupant at the nearest market: it counted as slave cargo.

This could add an interesting dynamic to PvP...

Rebuys hurt! I am glad Elite makes survival matter. I have had to move my ships without insurance money a couple of times and those trips have been the tensest.

OP, why would you be done? You are not your ship. Sounds like a whole new lease of life to play and get back where you were, but with more solid foundations to me.

Unless Elite is just a ship building simulator to you, in which case, I hope you find a game you enjoy more.

TBH, don't care and wouldn't expect anyone to care if I did the same thing, but will say this.. take a break from the game. When your ready come back and play just for fun. Your always welcome. :)

They generally give you one free pass. You seem like you could use one.

Welcome to the game.

Wow, I didn't even know they did this. Even more hand holding.

@OP

The ship insurance is clearly displayed when you outfit your ship and on your right HUD panel. The game is even more lenient since it offers you a loan based on your highest Pilot Federation rank. The insurance covers most of the cost to rebuy your ship and you only need to have at least one time the rebuy cost. Even less when taking the loan into account. So the game has given you plenty of room to work with to prevent losing that ship you've worked for. Yet its still not enough for you? It's actually quite sad you quit the game just because you made the wrong decision to fly without properly insuring your ship. It's even more sad you blame the game for not babysitting you. I made my share of stupid decisions in this game, but to just give up on it because I made a stupid decision. No .. just no. Learn from your mistakes and come back stronger.

Yep i know its my fault, I didn't think they would actually make it so if I died without enough insurance money I would have to start over again, THAT. It already took me 200 hours to get there lol. Have fun though everyone else :) This game is def just a grind fest with way too much to lose if you make one mistake. Like hitting the wrong button, and dying. Then having 200 hours wasted.

Yes I know you dont care.

I guess your sunny outlook was partly why you chose a name with 'souleater' in it?

You have made one mistake sure, but it was totally avoidable - I bet you won't fly without rebuy again if you do decide to start over.

As for the wasted time - well, Elite is as much about the journey as the destination and, even though you seem to have missed the golden rule that everyone tells you in Elite 101, you'll have learnt a thing or two in your 200 hours.
That time will only be wasted if you don't play Elite again - if you start over, armed with the 200 hours experience you already have, you'll progress up to and beyond the point you were at before your loss with relative ease.

Elite, like life, contains setbacks sometimes. How catastrophic that is depends on whether you focus on what you used to have but don't have anymore, or on what you still have despite what you lost.

Good luck, Commander.

it really isnt... What ship did you lose anyways? unless its one of the big 3 .. you can make enough cash to get in back in in 1/5 the time it took you if you actually know what your doing..

- Do a CG
- get a friend and wing up for bounty hunting
- bounty hunting ins a high res follow cops.
- do some Data transfer missions
- do close range passenger missions.

Read the first page I had to jump to page 12 to see why it was still going.
Slow day in the galaxy? Have the Thargoids been defeated?

This reminds me of another forum where a user said "bye bye you guys really stink" he never looked back and the community is still responding to him 50k posts and 10 years later.
