Im done.

Maybe not the game for you. No harm no foul, but FYI I've been playing since day one and periodically start over to keep it fresh. The game is much more interesting when poor anyway!

Nope it was to have fun exploring and fighting stuff. Nope you def can't do that in a sidewinder. It took me way to many transport runs to get a ship big enough to do anything. You cant take a sidewinder, and go do combat, or exploration. You can't even jump very far in a sidewinder.

I disagree. I belong to a group where we have lots of fun activities in a sidewinder, which time to time includes combat. There's also at least one person who has explored the entire galaxy, flying around the edges in a sidewinder.

Every ship in Elite is what you make of it.

I'm not suggesting you spend the entire game in a sidewinder but don't overlook the small to medium ships as they can certainly be useful and fun to fly. They are in the game for a reason.

Take a break and once over your frustration, come back now knowing the first rule of Elite - don't fly without rebuy.

Very true. By the way, I love the mottoes in your signature, both great ED aphorisms; if only more players took heed of them :)

Elite: Dangerous is not a Space Simulator, it is a Science Fiction Game.

Buying an expensive ship without enough credits for insurance re-buy is the same as buying a Sidewinder for a ridiculously huge amount of money.

Elite can be both ends of the gaming spectrum. It can be evil, harsh, cruel and the next day be beautiful, relaxing and absorbing. Every button you press has a reaction, I guess you pressed the dumb button when you launched without a rebuy.

Sorry but you can’t blame the game for players being stupid

Yep i know its my fault, I didn't think they would actually make it so if I died without enough insurance money I would have to start over again, THAT. It already took me 200 hours to get there lol. Have fun though everyone else :) This game is def just a grind fest with way too much to lose if you make one mistake. Like hitting the wrong button, and dying. Then having 200 hours wasted.

Yes I know you dont care.

LOL heres an opening to a thread in 2016 which is almost identical.

------------------------------------------------------------------

"Thats it!

Finally i had enough... been grinding my way up to the Pyton... gues what a ramming Police npc slammed me in the gate of Ray gateway. then all the cannons startet fireing like crazy and about 1 sec later BOOM. now back at 0 cr...

Thats just it for me.... wasted 200 hours of grinding and had the fun for not even 30 sec. these npc's need to stop the ramming in the intrances to docks..... im out.... have fun"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since then there have been over 300 easily identifiable threads warning people not to fly what you can't afford to rebuy. It is your fault, man up.

Insurance doesn't work like that at all, not even close. No one gives some one a 100 million dollar anything for 10 percent.
Ermmm....
Let us compare how insurance works (in very simple terms):
ED insurance -
When you buy a ship, part of the purchase price includes insurance from the Pilot's Federation.
Part of your insurance policy includes an excess; the part you pay in the event of a claim.
When you crash and destroy your ship the PF pays to replace your ship, you pay the excess.

Real world (at least, in the UK) insurance -
When you buy a new car you get insurance (sometimes as part of the of the purchase price, sometime you have to buy it separately).
Part of your insurance policy includes an excess; the part you pay in the event of a claim.
When you crash and destroy your new car the insurance company pays to replace your car, you pay the excess.

The risk of loss is the only real exiting thing in Elite. If you fly without insurance your playing hard core mode.

But yeah, the game is far too grindy and repetitive overall so I don't blame people that quit after losing 200 hours worth of stuff.
Just too painful to think of having to do it all over again!

Actually, we do care. But what you'll find is a lot of people asking why you were flying a ship you couldn't afford to lose.

I've been there done that, trust me. In an Anaconda no less.

You're not alone in your stupidity :p

So the OP certainly shouldn't have flown without insurance...but...

...Does the game ever actually tell you the consequences of flying without insurance? I'm pretty sure that is another trial and error aspect of the game that the player needs to find out for themselves. Not necessarily saying that is a bad thing, but it is a design decision that is spread right throughout the game, and it is starting to show and cause more and more issues.

Lol live life like this game, get out of here. Insurance doesn't work like that at all, not even close. No one gives some one a 100 million dollar anything for 10 percent. It should be you buy the insurance before hand, and if you lose it you get it back, not this stupid way. I didn't even realise how that worked till it was to late, because there was 0 chance of dying in what i did.

You def didn't care, you just wanted to make fun of me so stop your nonsense.

You are right if i knew if i died I would have to start from starch i wouldn't of did it. But there is no way I am grinding another 200 hours to get it back.

I'm surprised you didn't know about the rebuy insurance thing because it's explained in the game every time you buy a ship, right?

[haha][haha][haha]

Oh boy, are you ever wrong.

People have been to Beagle Point (65,000 ly from Sol) and back again in a Sidewinder.
People have been 1v1 PvPing in a Sidewinder against a Corvette - and won.
People have PvPed in a Sidewinder against every other ship - and won.

Sure, the Sidey isn't king of jump range. Mine does only 25 ly in full combat trim. Still good enough to reach anything within 25,000 ly from the core.

If you know what you're doing (and what you want), you can get the money for that ship in less than two hours, starting from scratch. Visisting all the Engineers to properly upgrade it takes a bit longer, though.

So you played 200 hours and hadn't been blown up and generated enough creds to get a big ship? ****! You must be a bloody brilliant player. I've been bouncing around systems for 300 hours. I have lots of little and medium ships and a bit of rep in various places. BUT, and it's a big but 😁 I have 'died' lots of times. I'm getting zapped all over the shop. Always had enough for a rebuy though. When I say lots I mean it, lost 6 ships at the weekend. Those NPC wings are brutal.

Elite is less forgiving than EVE Online, because you are not protected by an invincible galactic wide police force, and you can run out of fuel. there is no autopilot, fancy computer to fly your ship for you, no spreadsheets, no "safespace" like high-sec, no station trading. no "leveling up skills" to "get better", you actually have to use your brain to be good at this game.

Not to mention the UI and camera system is garbage, and plays like a MUD with a 3D screensaver in the background. nothing but windows, zoomed out x300, right clicking.

The entire game is a "safe space"

I see you were the one (?) other person to note this in this thread.
