General / Off-Topic I’m mesmerized by this

I`m just enjoying the show at this point. I stopped playing years ago and shortly after stopped caring.
As i said: B tier team is B tier. Every consecutive year shows this. Most of the old white knights who predicted a bright future are long gone, some others changed the tune, some still deny reality. Braben does his thing proving Ian`s words.
It`s fun. So is FE2. which i play instead.
And yet you bless us with your constant posting. We are very lucky indeed.

What is fascinating is the number of people that say that the game is terrible and frontier are incompetent and keep on hanging around here. It’s puzzling.
I am only here because FDevs woes please me. They disrespected their customers for the sake of a corporate target, including me. Fdev told me they had a build from a "different branch" and I handed over my hard-earned money for what was in reality an unfinished broken software product as a full release. They wasted my time and mugged me off. That treatment has consequences on my subsequent treatment of them.

When someone mugs me off, I take note and subsequently it pleases me greatly if they are inconvenienced. Indeed, I want to stay and watch their travails. I might even pull up a deckchair and watch, and make less-than-helpful suggestions and pass ribald commentary. Such schadenfreude is deeply gratifying, and is (in my opinion) considerably more fun than playing the actual game DLC.

So, in summary: I came here to enjoy Odyssey. That proved impossible, so I stayed to point and laugh.

Disregarding the worth of money if you have it it's worth less then if you haven't - but if you pay for video-games, maybe you'll have more of it than you need...

Metallica:
To this game you stay a slave
Rover, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will
But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind anywhere
Never find anywhere
Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

You did work as? You don’t anymore?
Game designer (writing concepts for general game mechanics and UI), community manager, junior project manager and product manager.

And no, I don't anymore, for many years already. So I'm far from being a know-it-all gamedev. But I did the job, both on the dev side and the marketing side.

As far as I am concerned, quite a few of the complainers here make very valid points. Some are definitely over the top, and I do agree that these melodramatic "that's it, I'm leaving!" threads do not make any sense whatsoever.

But your general view on the community strikes me as a bit warped.

Dare I say masochists or people who actually enjoy being angry?

When they actually leave we get an open letter announcing why everybody lost a person of quality.

Ah also let’s not forget the army of know-it-all gamedevs with 10/10 hindsight vision. They never did that job yet they know everything about it… from game design to marketing. I guess those hang around to educate the lot.

What fascinates me are the number of perpetual damage controllers. We ying and we yang around here. Balance is mostly achieved.

Yeah that’s another thing. But it’s less interesting than people who hang around to participate in something they hate.

I would argue many who stopped playing still here arnt here for hate but rather love of what the game could / should be.

We all have the same thing in common at the end of the day. The worse thing any place could ever be is an echo chamber with no dissenting opinion.

Maybe it is. Maybe I focus on a tiny slice of the demographic. It still does exist.
It certainly does, and there are indeed a few individuals who'd be well advised to take a break from both the game and the forum, if only for their own well-being.

But I would not reduce the community to these few accounts. There's always the option to add them to the ignore list. Makes it easier to focus on those who actually have something meaningful to say, be it positive or negative.

Everyone should have a hobby.

While I don't feel like your post is aimed at me per se (I still play the game and like the concept, I am frustrated with it but not really angry as such), the simple fact is that there's no other game like it out there still.

I bought X4 and while I do like it, it's not the same as Elite - that scratches a very particular itch, but it often falls on its face trying to do the scratching, and that's a tad frustrating because it happens so often. Frontier are lucky in that there's so little competition out there; if another game was available that would be very similar in sandbox scope, audiovisual design and flight model I'd have jumped ship (groan) already.
Likewise. I've been unhappy with for years now.

Then why do you stay? You’re not wed or in a sect.
Ok

Still… you are displeased and you keep exposing yourself to displeasure…

why?
I myself am a LEPer, so I'm hitched to this boat one way or another. I actually haven't played elite in 2-3 years or so. I came back because the idea of EDO enticed me.

And it doesn't work as it should, so hopes and dreams crushed again :p

But I do hold out faint hope that maybe it'll get better, but that doesn't mean I can't roast FD over the complete and utter dumpster fire that was this release. I mean with Horizons they had the excuse of a "season", but not here.
