News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

We could still have the Wing missions moved to a different board or filterable, unless the game is designed to clutter your panels with useless stuff too?

Definitely. I wish mission board get another facelift, with filters, tags, and what not. Like you have preset ready to apply to see missions you only want to see.

I think that can be solved with introduction of NPC wing. But I agree with sentiment. I think missions should be all the same and players should choose way how to approach them. Do they want to split income, or take it all with themselves, or hire NPC wing and crew.

I see an exploit here though...

CMDR's who camp at a station and take up all the "good" missions, then share them out with others...be it for money or whatever to complete without ever leaving the station. Unless missions are unlimited and not in themselves a valuable commodity, this could become a problem. We already have mission givers at stations, we don't need a middleman.

that's why this change is potentially scary. So far FDev has announced the scary part, but said nothing in regards to reworking the mission system, which I think would be a much more welcome announcement.

From a technical point this is a good idea. However, we're talking about FDev here. If there's a way to mess it up they will stumble upon it, which is why I'd like to have seen a more complete idea rather than this tidbit, leaving us to guess what it means, generating pages and pages of forum posts which could have been so easily avoided.

Greetings Commanders,

In the next chapter of Beyond (3.3), we will be implementing and migrating mission data to a new separate server. While this mainly affects the back-end of the game, you will see some changes to missions in-game.

As it currently stands, missions are on a shared server with other elements of the game. This has the risk of problems with missions causing outages and stability issues for the rest of the game if there are technical hiccups.

So, what benefits will we see by moving missions to their own separate server?

  • Any issue (generated by missions) which can cause a server outage or stability problems will no longer result in players disconnecting. Instead the missions will be unavailable for a period of time.
  • If such issues do occur, the previous servers will be able to act as a back-up, offering better opportunities to recover game content as quickly as possible.
  • We may see a slight decrease in mission board loading times.
  • Missions will now be consistent across game modes (Solo/Open/Private Group).
It's also worth noting that, as a result of a dedicated 'mission server', there will be a removal/significant reduction of the method of refreshing mission boards by logging in and out of the game ("board flipping"). While we understand that this is a practice utilised by some* players, this was never the intended use of the mission system.

Even though there is a small number of players doing this, we will increase the credit payout of missions (by 10%) across the board so all players using the mission boards as intended will see a net profit. As a result of this, some mission reward choices will see boosted influence, reputation and rank gains. As always when it comes to missions, we will continually review and balance them where needed.

Ultimately, this is a healthy step for our overall servers and game experience.

If you have any questions or would like to share your feedback with us, please post below!

*we found that only 2.8% of daily online players were using the mission system in this way.

Now do this with PVP instances and you will have fixed combat logging.

This is the greatest update since before Horizon.

Don't screw it up because we all know how good you are at disappointing players.

I have spent over 1000 hours on bgs work with a faction in 35 systems presently. I have made and spent over 10 billion on bgs work because sometimes donation missions are all that spawn that can be completed in a timely manner. Every time there is a major change in the way missions spawn, it’s those who work the bgs daily who suffer and then must quickly adapt.

As Kickstarter backer I did see the implementation of missions from day 1.

My opinion. It started wrong, and every addition could solve a view issues but not correct the wrong beginning.

The base is wrong.

What I mean, right now RNG generates missions for the existing factions in the current system, with RNG types of missions, RNG payouts & RNG materials .........

So what is offered to me is VERY depending on RNG!

What I would PREFER is to MINIMIZE the RNG.

I would like to see a MISSION BOARD that gives me the possibility to SEARCH ACTIVE for

1. specific types of missions I want to do right now
2. specific types of materials I need right now

Example: I am in Founders World and would like to find a BOUNTY HOUND mission for a WING that gives me PROTO HEAT RADIATERS ( I need that badly for engineering).

Right now there is no way for me to find something like this ACTIVELY, instead I see f.e. the board generating BOUNTY HOUND SOLO missions with REFINED FOCUS CRYSTALS ...... or it has a ONLY MINING mission with PROTO HEAT RADIATERS but I dont want to do mining right now, I am with a friend and we want to do some BH!!!!!

So what to we do ???? BOARDFLIPPING until the servers melt down - and my nerves also because RNG dont gives me what I need.. FRUSTRATING!!!!

Of cause I dont want do have a button to generate missions the minute I want them the way I want them....

What I would like to see is a MISSION BOARD that gives me the opportunity to SEARCH the MISSIONS BOARDS of all system in lets say 100 LY from my current location for WHAT I WANT TO DO RIGHT NOW -
1. BH MISSION in a WING 2. that gives me PROTO HEAT RADIATERS .....

It should then give me the opportunity to ACCEPT this mission even if its in a this other system 68 LY away .... then my friend and I do 2,3,4 jumps to this system and the FUN STARTS. Additional to that - after finishing the mission I get my PROTO HEAT RADIATERS and can jump to my favorite engineer to do my module upgrade!

I think with the implementation of a MISSION SERVER this should be easier to do as the missions will be CONSISTENT as you describe!

Having a way to find exactly the WANTED mission with the wanted MATERIALS
1. would make BOARDFLIPPING UNNECESSARY,
2. GENERATE MORE FUN - I do what I want to do right now ( only a small delay if I have to jump 2-3 systems to get to the other system )
3. GENERATE MORE SATISFACTION - because I get the materials I need and no other stuff I already have plenty of...

BTW: I also would like to see mission with a much higher TIME COUNTER - not only a view hours or 1 day. Why not 1 week?

Completely agree. People are board flipping for various reasons like bgs and to find specific materials. If all those reasons are not to be addressed then you may as well leave it as it is.

Move wing (cargo) missions to their own board please!

Tell me good reason why it should be earned faster?
because this game won't survive with a player base of 22.

Oh come on, I was hoping for a much better answer than that. Really, the Corvette is just bragging rights for "I've played this game for too long a long time"

A quick (and I think easy) QOL thought....

It's often a bit of a faff to find missions that are at destinations you're already going to or want to go to.

But it's also probably quite a faff to come up with clever interface stuff to make this less of a struggle.

So, as a simple solution, how about:

-- If a mission is going to a location which is already a mission destination this is indicated in the list.
-- If a mission is going to a location which is your currently selected system destination then this is indicated in the list.
-- If a mission is on the route to a currently selected system or existed mission destination this is indicated in the list.

This could be done either with icons or by sorting the missions so that convenient ones are first (perhaps alongside follow-on missions).

It would make things a bit quicker and easier without having to do anything ludicrously clever to the existing interface.

I think this was suggested before, and I like the idea, but I don't think this kind of comprehensive enhancement can be suggested to FD, especially in the scope of this thread.

Ultimately all missions should be the same. You can choose to do them solo or in a wing. there should be no distinction in pay or difficulty. easy missions should be easy. hard missions should be hard, and depending on your skill/equipment you should be able to share that missions with a wing or not.

problem solved.

Alas they are not, Wing cargo missions pay 1/3 - 1/2 pet ton per commander in a wing of 4 (around 1/8 when done in solo). AND they were recently nerfed!
So we can safely assume that WING cargo missions will always be the lowest pay missions that are only worth looking at when in a wing and for roleplay, not credits.
Therefore they should have their own Spam Folder ... err I mean Mission Board.

LOL! I just log in for a couple of hours after work sometimes and want to play space trucker in VR to wind down. Couldn't care less about BGS.
You mean you don't care about people who pretend that influencing BGS actually matters in any regard and would rather enjoy the game for what it is? Heresy!

This! For thousend - this! (or however it is written in your barbarian language)

Wow? Really? I guess you just want me to log in once every few hours? Days?

If it comes to that I'm out. No more cash flow from me at that point... What garbage.

This is not an instant gratification issue. This is an enjoyment issue. This is not my job, and I don't want to treat it like one.
