In-Game Clock

Well I sort of agree with the OP, in think sometimes it would be nice to check the RL time inside the game.
A button mapped switch option between:
Game time for mission and group meeting,
local time for solo peeps who have a RL deadline to monitor
or nothing for clean hub lovers
Would settle it for everyone

I've dealt with this for so long I can instantly do the math in my head now (for me, just subtract 6 hours (or 5 without DST).

What a lot of people don't realize is that some people play in VR, so glancing at a clock is not really an option, especially if you wear big glasses that make taking the headset on and off a bit more of a hassle (remove headset, locate and check phone for time, polish glasses, polish headset lenses, put headset on, adjust headset, adjust glasses, re-center viewpoint, re-center viewpoint 3-4 more times (OCD), accidentally knock phone on floor while relocating HOTAS throttle).

I wear a watch. Its from 1945. :) works fine. Its even a manual wind up. However I can usually gauge what time it is by how much hassle my cat is giving me to be fed.

Doesn't steam overlay include a clock?

I propose Britain holds a referendum to decide whether we need GMT or if we should go it alone.

We could call it Timex.
I've heard if we vote for a Hard Timex we'll get 350 million extra seconds a week to pump back into the NHS. That should help immeasurably with those waiting times.

I really wish I could change it to my time zone too. Currently the clock is essentially random numbers, and checking missions against the clock is a pain, so I don't take timed missions.

Did a quick search and didn't see anything, so...

Could we possibly get an option to display our clock in local time? Is this even the right place to ask this? Should I just go somewhere and write a suggestion ticket? Where would that be?
It seems many misunderstand the in game clock.
It displays in game universe time, which coincidentally is UTC time, because of location.

It would make little sense to change it to your specific local time, because it also helps you time things in game, for missions as well as other players.

All you need to do to check your real time is, look at the time on your computer, or anywhere else?

How is it a pain? it shows exactly the appropriate times? it doesn't matter what your real time is, when missions and whatnot are based on in game time?

As has been mentioned, it shows in-game time (which happens to be UTC), and is important for timing in-game events. It's also a trivial matter to add or subtract whatever offset your own time zone is if you want to know your real-world local time for some reason.

This is where VoiceAttack comes in. I just ask my ship what time it is.

I'd like an in-game Teas-maid.

For me its always, just one more jump. Before I know it Ive not had a cuppa for 2hrs or more.

This again? It's the time in the 34th century Elite universe. Not the time on present day Earth. Therefore you can't change it.

did you miss the fact a pc has got a clock bottom right corner on your taskbar! sarcasm totally.

Hands up those who play their games in a window. What, no-one apart from Kingston@#...!?

I can understand why people might want an in-game clock showing their local time, but working it out from UTC shouldn't be too much of an ask.

I actually think a nice little quality of life feature .. 'ship time'. Set it where you want, Tokyo time if you wish. Be daft, if you like. Purists leave it where it is.

It would make little sense to change it to your specific local time, because it also helps you time things in game, for missions as well as other players.

And while this is undoubtedly why Universal Time is a thing, if you have Tokyo time on ship display and miss appointment/mission .. tough!?

Missions are a relatively specific activity I think. Explorer's, miners, even lone wolf bounty hunters, I see having more use for the time 'where they are' (and let's be honest it is a game .. you're not really in space and some of us have bedtimes etc.).

Not something that breaks the bank of course .. even if BST, when it's GMT+1 changes every six months is a little annoyance but let's also support our Hawaiian brothers and sisters too? I can't see any specific reason not to see this as a good idea, though of course Frontier prioritising developer time to it is a totally different matter. It would seem to be an inclusive QoL step forward to me though.

many users have multiple monitors. including me. either way fullscreen/windowed,borderless. I can still see my other monitors.

those who are running windows 10 also have the option of using multiple desktops on the same screen!

So what is the problem?
What difference would it make to anyone else if you can display local time?
I've lived and worked across a few different timezones and I am used to it. No problems for me then. :p
But what about most people who only change their clocks twice a year.
I see no harm in it only good.

It's not part of the game, it's that simple. Just use steam overlay.
