In system jumps.

okay, so i'm new to the forums, but i am not new to this game.
first of all, i love elite dangerous. it brings out the boy in me who used to always wanted to go out into space.
and many people who play this game has many, and often, valid reasons or wants for changes in this game.

i have none of these. i know all too well that developing in a game like this would be a monumental task. creating new content must be a nightmare for frontier devs.

but i want to make a discussion (although i know many people would have before me, and more after too) make a discussion about in-system jumps.

in the time i am writing this, i have found a binary star system where the other sytem is 578,900 light seconds away. usually when exploring, you absolutely would not go to that system, because that's ridiculous. but this system i have went to basically has 7 water planets, and multiple ones i assume to be like earth, even better, noone has ever discovered it.

now i'm a huge discovery . i like my name on things. especially on a special system like this.
but to supercruise 590k light seconds from the parent star to this one, and then even further to scan all the planets i want, my god it's tedious. incredibly tedious. 12 minutes in and i've barely did 200k of it in my asp.

what i dont get is why the dev's havent implemented in system jumps, or atleast boosted jumps, where you can jump lets say 100k light seconds ONLY if you were targetting a star. that way it would only take me 2 minutes to do 5 or so jumps then i supercruise the last 90k, which is acceptable.
it wouldnt be very hard to implement because the jumping mechanic is in the game, the exploration is very much centred on jumping from one system to another. maybe its not that simple, after all, the jump system only jumps you to parent stars, but atleast if you target a star, why cant i supercruise at 10x speed untill <100k light seconds to only stars?

it would make much sense too, because then you couldnt use that in any other instance, to only towards stars to within 100k light seconds, and save much time. so, so , so much time.

many people have many gripes with this game, mine is this, and that finding other players who want to play together also is a nightmare. none of my friends play this game, they call me a nerd haha, but they dont know how good elite is.

but i digress.

devs,
get on this. i dont want to do a 25 minute supercruise run just so i can get my name on the almost perfect system to discover.
i typed all this and im still 150k out...
it would be such a quality of life change for explorers.
thoughts?

OP to be fair I'm up for almost anything that adds strategic choice into the game. So I'm ok with in system jumps between stars within certain parameters.

i.e. The local jump drive should take up an extra module slot. Effectively giving CMDRS the choice whether they want to sacrifice a module space for the convenience of being able to jump to another star.

I think perhaps you should only be able to jump between large masses such as stars and not planets.

This has been brought up many times and I can appreciate what the goal of intra-system jumps is, but it also heavily diminishes one of the coolest aspects of ED....its scale. As an explorer, I have had to make the call if I want to SC to outliers like you describe. I weight the cost/benefit (my time/discovery bonuses or cool factor) and not being terribly OCD, I will skip it if it looks like a string of beige meh.

There needs to be SOME scale in the game!

And another one who wants to take scale out of the game for sheer arrogant greed.

No one would force you to use it? Not that I care either way, I neither wish nor don't wish it to happen. BUT, it's like the guys that want the game harder yet won't play with a blindfold on or only use one hand on the controls! ;)

Nerfing income is a touchy subject already and a side effect of having in system jumps would be that rewards scaled on distance from the primary star would disappear. I am also big into exploring and the occasional long supercruise gives me time to browse the galaxy map for my next jumps or update my log book with what I have found so far etc ... I'm actually writing this while supercruising 350kLs to new discoveries ;-)

Simple problem with your suggestion OP (and i would have loved this a few months ago but I'm wiser now): With your mechanic in place someone else's name would be on that perfect system your headed towards because it would be easy to get to. Be grateful its difficult/big pain to SC to distant stars in-system; that's more for you to discover and claim.

My suggestion would be to make the in system jump possible between main stars if you have the full system map. This would make grabbing the system map, instead of honking and jumping something beneficial. I would also have a permit system for some in system jumps and the permit is only unlocked after you have done the trip, so that things like Hutton Orbital are still a thing.

Let keep the scale as is. We don't need an easy jump mode. Start using common Sense when you explorer of a system or when you pick a mission. If the destination too far. The choice is either do not accept the mission or don't go to the other star in a system. Then jump to a new system.

No one forces you to fly out to the far reaches either. If i have the patience, that's my advantage. Watering down the standards affects everyone. Its not a simple matter of injecting artificial difficulty by playing 1 handed etc.

Unfortunately OP you needed to do a little extra research, this subject has been pretty much done to death it's also not going to happen.

Ever.
