IO to BP

IO to BP and back again - eventually

I left Alioth on the 22nd December and went to Lembeva as I'd been told this would be a good Well as mentioned else where I was a bit annoyed when RL interfered with game playing and I'd be unable to join the Distant Worlds expedition when they leave. So I decided to leave earlier and get ahead and either the rest of the expedition will either catch me up on the way or at BP.
place to equip my Asp with a 6A fuel scoop. (with a discount).

The Asp was almost equipped as I wanted but I couldn't swap the A4 thrusters for D4 thrusters and I couldn't be bothered to go searching - (it's not work -it's a game.)

So I left for waypoint 1 at Shapley 1 on 23rd Dec without any materials for FSD injections or other repairs. I did have some basic refuels for the SRV though.

I stopped off at Praea Euq UD-R B18-4 A2 to search for materials found some ( I also learnt a lesson of not driving to fast as ended up jumping several hundred of metres into a canyon! Luckily the damage was repairable with synthesis) and carried on to HIP 77701 A1 where on 24th Dec I had a bit of an incident and found some technetium.

The incident in question was - In my haste to land before FD's servers were updated I forgot to check how many g's this world was. I've been landing on low g worlds and this one was 2g. You can imagine what happened - fortunately I got away with only 39% hull damage. I didn't feel it was a good idea to carry on with only 61% hull with hardly any ly on the clock so quickly whisked back to the closest repair dock which was Tabwa. While there I switched my A5 thrusters to D4 to give a bit of extra range and set off again for Shapley 1. This time I didn't stop until Fine Ring Sector IR-w d1-141 where I did a bit of prospecting on B3 A and picked up a few materials.

Then it was off towards the Lagoon nebula. I stopped at PRAEA EUQ XP-G d10-75 AB- where I found Germanium (4 lots) in metallic meteorites, Tellurium, tungsten and zirconium. I now had enough jumponium for a couple of basic Jumps.

Next stop was AUCOKS YC-V C5-17 A1 where I found some tea.

This morning I landed on NGC 6416 sector UE-Qb5-1 2 and it was it a winter wonderland - just right for Christmas.

Pictures to follow.

The canyons on in System PRAE EUQ UD-R b18-4 (the ones I accidently drove off at top speed in the SRV!)

HIP 7770 and a new material

Another new material at PRAEA EUQ XP-G d10-75 AB

I you need here (NGC 6416 sector UE-Qb5-1 2) would be Snowman and some snow goggles - it was a bit bright!:-

So far from exploring with an SRV I have learnt -
1. they are tough little craft and can survive quite well. (and easily repaired while out and about using basic materials)
2. Don't go too fast you don't know what's over the next crest!
3. There are lost and lots of basic materials - you end up have to discard them to make room for the rarer items.

I have decided to divert from the DW waypoints as I've already seen some of these sights and I'm heading straight to SAG A. At current rate I should get there in the next few days.

Found more Germanium (4 lots) and Arsenic on BLEIA DRYIAE QZ-M D8-83 1.

Good choice in Asp paint job! Also, nice to see I'm not the only one who'll try and get a head start. I'll be out of the game from Dec 29-Jan 27, so going to try and make about 10kLy up in the next few days.

See trip CMDR, hope to meet up on the way!

yup, paint job on the asp is cool...and I love the canyon you're running down!

Just passed the 11kly mark on the way to Sag A.

Extra tip for explorers:- Don't play when tired.

Had a couple of unplanned exits too close to stars, as wasn't paying enough attention to what I was doing, and have managed to reduce hull to 96%. All the systems have been repaired. (Glad I brought the 2 AFMUs and I have enough stuff to refill them.)

I have found some more basic FSD injections so now have 5 Basic or 3 basic and 2 Normal. Not scanning as much as a I should but have found one WW.

(Graphics Card seems to be playing up again - crossed into different terrain on HMC world and have floating rocks again :( although did find some germanium and tin).

Seem to have hit a problem at 15.4kly from Sol. The route finder has ceased to function- I know it used to get slow, but I've been further than this before (18.5kly) without this problem. Takes several minutes to plot a short 100ly trip and my frame rates are dropping to single digits (perhaps this is why FD recommend an I7)

edit: Tried a restart of ED:H - no difference. Reboot PC and it's back to normal. Did about 100 jumps this morning perhaps that has something to do with it.

About 11kly to SAG A.

Usual techie advice: make sure you have latest drivers for video card however, if using Nvidia then look at optimising game with GeForce Experience and. if using AMD, you may want to try removing latest drivers and reverting / reinstalling older (sure I've seen some conflicting comments on this). Also, you will get slow down with planning but there's a gret thread with a formula to help plot as fast as outside the core (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=151389).

This helped with the plotting - but the frame rate drops every time I go in the Galaxy screen now (set to realistic as by star takes ages to load). It drops below ten FPS and then recovers (back to 60) slowly when I exit. After a bit of investigation it isn't the GFX card as the load on that goes up but not significantly - it's the CPU it peaks at just under 100% as soon as the galaxy map is opened and recovers when closed.

Just a warning to all those going to attempt the DW trip with minimum spec CPU (mine's a g3240). Looks like I'll have to have a look for a socket 1150 CPU before I upgrade the GFX card.

Edit: More investigation led me the voice attack profile - it had some (wait until complete) commands in - removed these and it's improved (a bit - drops to high 20s) so a lot more playable.

Edit 2: Looks like its something to do with the route as you complete the route the faster it gets. No route = fullspeed.

And only 8.2kly to SAG A

Only 5.2kly to Sag A. Found a couple of WW and a ELW while having a break from jumping.

Averaging about 29.5ly per jumps over 680 jumps. Asp has a laden range of 32.5ly.

Only about another 2-3hours game time and I'm there.

Good feedback; anything that adds to pool of knowledge helps all...

Gone to meet Frawd Digger at Digger's Demise.

Hi Iron Orchid.

I have made it to EOS CHREA NY-Q C21-349 A 1 A...otherwise known as Digger's Demise...I have also found the place of my demise. I will be on again tonight (12.30pm GMT - 3.30pm GMT 2/1). If you can't make it today I can potentially hang around to meet tomorrow. Let me know your plans.

Frawd

G'day Digger,

Should be OK for today the weather hasn't let me down (it's cold and rainy). See you later I'm currently parked up on the first planet.
