Is it just me, or is FDev changing something in E.D.?

Greetings commanders... I don't know if it's just me, or if it's Fdev who's working on this... I'm noticing more planets with atmospheres (similar to the one in the image) compared to a few months ago, at least in the bubble area. Could anyone confirm? It would be wonderful if, along with the ships arriving, we could see more improvements on the planets. o7
 
That must be the case, given the new computer and graphic card I have, and I see them as better. But yes, I hope to touch on and update this topic a bit.

I think the same, obviously I can't remember all the planets, but in the last few months I've been to one that seemed to have a slight change, but around here they say it wasn't...well, whether it's like that or not, I hope Fdev listens to us and makes some planet update.
 
Nah, you're imagining things. Planets with limited atmo have been around since Ody and the number has been fixed since then.
Now I'm curious. Did "thin-atmosphered" planets not exist prior to Odyssey (and, thus, currently in legacy)? Did they just appear with Odyssey? Were some planets converted to thin-atmosphered ones? How did it go, exactly?
 
I would think that FD would surely take credit publicly with some kind of in-game narrative if they were slowly terraforming planets around the galaxy.
It would not be the first time that they have made visual or other changes to the game without adding it to the patch release notes.

For example in a recent update they added these to the system map, and didn't mention it in the patch notes:

True, however I would think that a terraforming initiative is much more significant than map upgrades, and would indicate movement towards something else, like landable ELW’s maybe?

The galaxy doesn't change. I don't think the Stellar Forge even allows for manual changes to the composition of the galaxy, as the generation of systems is completely procedural.

The galaxy was re-rolled when Odyssey was released and the terrain generation was altered, which changed a few popular planets and features like that testicle moon or mount neverest, but that's it. IIRC it is not possible to change the galaxy. What you are experiencing is probably confirmation bias.
 
Reading the comments, I see that there are people who have been playing ED for a long time and are more aware of these changes. I didn't notice it that much at first, but it did seem right to me. It's true that even without massive changes, what Commander DjVortex mentions is possible, some changes that aren't mentioned in the patch. I understand that it will be complicated to make massive changes to the atmosphere and clouds, but at least adding more planets with this type of atmosphere incorporated in Odyssey seems more feasible, although I don't understand programming and procedural generation. The fact that Elite now allows you to land on planets is an achievement that few titles offer, they are few, which doesn't mean that some additions to these planets would be great, from my humble point of view.

As far as I know, it didn't exist, but I could be mistaken.

Landable atmospheric planets were introduced with Odyssey, but the planets themselves exist in Legacy. If you go to the same planet in Legacy you won't be able to land on it, but I think it will have the same characteristics (i.e. slight atmosphere, which is why you can't land on it).
 
Yes, the truth is that the light atmospheres are already an improvement, and it would be great if they worked on it. Although in another post I published these images as a test, other CMDs told me that something like this would be a new version of Elite, maybe one day we'll see something similar in this wonderful title without having to wait so long o7

This is the case if you launch in Horizons mode. What are the thin-atmosphered planets the same in actual legacy mode?

I suppose I could check, given that I still have the game installed on the PS4...
 
This thread from before the EDO release has a video showing the 3 planets used in the EDO atmospheric planet reveal video vs the Horizons versions. I think they just look like every other dull non-landable atmospheric planet that has no clouds/thick atmo.

 
My answer to the OP's question would be, "People are just now paying more attention to those types of world because of colonization". Which is really all I can add to this thread.
 
Incidentally, that video in the thread I linked to shows how much better some of the pre-release atmospheres were compared to what we got in Odyssey release, in particular the first one that the Chieftain flies over. Even the alpha/beta or whatever it was had better atmospheres than we've had since release. In my opinion.

I like them, but I feel something went wrong in that last few weeks/months before release.
