type-7 is not a very good ship, but its cheap and doesn't have a rank requirement.
If you have empire rank, you get a clipper instead.
if you have 100 mil, you get a python.
sure the python and clipper are both objectively better than the type-7, but the python/clipper also both much harder to get than the T7.
If anything the type-7 and type-9 need buffs! Everyone in trading uses cobras, asp, type-6, anacondas, pythons, and clippers, but type-7s and type-9s are both very rare. Even player piloted orcas seem more common than type-7s and 9s.

Wait wait, with your approach, Conda and Clipper share the same mass and both have class 7 internal, make Clipper's shield like Conda's base shield, do it do it do it!
All true, but at any specialty you can purchase a ship that is as good if not better than the python for 1/3 the cost.
What a load of old tat. Leave the Python as it is.. It's slow and lumberous enough already, sheesh.
If it were up to me I'd get rid of the size 4 on the python, increase it's boost speed by 5-10. I'd then give the type 7 a size 5 and about -50tons to hull mass.

The Type 7 needs a serious buff, as does the Type 9. They need better surviveabliity (better shield coefficent) and somewhat more cargo space (the Type 7 is simply too bad compared to the clipper and the Type 9 should have an bigger edge compared to the anaconda in terms of pure cargo space).
The Python as it currently is doesnt shine in any profession. It just can do most things okish. As can the Cobra at the lower level. Do u want to cripple this ship as well? U can argue most things for the cobra as well at its price level. The Python had its nerf. Other ships need buffs. Federal Dropship comes to mind that could need a bit more cargospace to be truely competitive as multipurpose ship (especially compared to the clipper).
Also, if u dont like the Python, just dont use it. But i plan to get me one as soon as i got enough reserve funds in addition to my Conda to use it for fun stuff.

They should have reduced the size of the thrusters, rather than just neutering the speed outright.
at least a thruster size decrease would make sense... Anyway, leave it alone. Seems enough people are pro and con that it's reasonably well balanced. Though I still think it could do with a slight buff (perhaps in jump range, or a slight boost to base shields, a slight boost speed increase).

This^^^ Absolutely. I mine in my python. It is the ideal mining barge. The clipper is no good as it can't land at outposts, and in my area there are several outposts that have mining contracts. Give us a break with the nerf stick already.

This is exactly should be Nerf. Best all round ship in the game and the second best combat ship (anny first) it's not multirole, it's omnirole.
Reduced it's shield strength and maneuverability. I'm sure you've noticed it still does quite well in both areas.
Multi-purpose ships have always been overpowered
They can carry more SCB's, carry more cargo - in most cases just as good shields / firepower / speed.
Clipper, Python, Anaconda are all multi-purpose wreck boats. Ridiculous and the FDL is gimped to use only pulse/mc/rail (but with nothing else)

The FDL is a POS, but I would argue that it needs a boost rather than the others needing a nerf.
