Ships Is the Anaconda really worth it?

I'm a new player, still flying around in (and loving) the Cobra Mk III. My goal is to have a great all around ship, but mainly to explore with, so the jump range + the overall flexibility of the Anaconda seems perfect.

But I'm now reading stuff like "anything the Anaconda can do, a well outfitted Python can do, for cheaper". Is that really true? What are the main competitors with the Anaconda?

For those that have an Anaconda, do you regret it or love it?

Anaconda is very versatile, in the early game, the mid game and in the late game.

Even without or only basic engineering, she can beat every NPC, has a decent jump range and can carry 300 tons strong shielded and equipped. And with only Farseer and Frameshift Booster unlocked, the Anaconda jumps 70 LYs.

The Python argument is true, but at some point in the game, money is not a concern. Especially when you own an Anaconda 😉

My first Anaconda was the key for earning the money for my growing fleet. Mission stacking, Mining, grinding for Corvette and Cutter - all work perfectly with a Conda.

Today I have better ships for hauling, mining and combat, but the Fighter-Frighter-Explorer-Moduletransport-80 LYs-Express-Role can only filled out with the Conda.

So get one 🙂

If you want Cobra but a bit of extra flexibility in loadout and more jump range, then the Krait Phantom or Krait II are probably better choices than the Python, though all three are solid ship designs. The Phantom is the cheapest of the three and has the best jump range. At any rate, if you're new and starting to build up your resources, even if you do want an Anaconda in the end, buying one of those three first will be a good intermediate step.

For me I never got on with the Anaconda - it turns far too slowly, especially in supercruise, the bridge position isn't one I like, and far too much of my normal play involves visiting outposts. I don't regret buying the one I own - but it's always going to be a specialist ship that gets brought out of the hangar once a year or so for a specific thing, than something I fly regularly.

I've two condas. One Is cool built for mining cores. Just 7% heat signature shield less hehe. So can sneak about mining pretty much undetected unless your at point blank.
The other is a killboat. Fully G5 with frag Canons pacifiers and multicannons she's a formidable opponent. I use her for pirate assassinations.
A good all rounder but slow not very manoeuvrable due to her size. Top notch thrusters required.

Yes, get one as soon as you can afford to buy and "D" rate it. It will get you to your fortune quicker than anything else in the game (That you can buy as a newb). get Felicity on your side and get your FSD to at least G3, and you then have a Hauler like nothing else in the game.

Basically it's a useful multi-purpose ship that can do a bunch of stuff very well. Mine is also the cost of 3 of my medium ships and was a huge material drain when it was engineered.

The Python is just as useful, with the added benefit of having better manouverability, can dock in more places and rebuys are much more manageable if you have an 'oops' moment.

Personally - get the Python first and then work up to the Anaconda. I don't regret buying mine, but I wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there. I would miss my Python though.

Only Farseer and FSD Booster: 60 LYs Multirole Build

Late game Explo-Multirole, 80 LYs, 1300 MJ, 224 tons

Hang on a minute, you have included the Guardian FSD booster in your build. Most starters will not have this, or know about it until much later on in their ED Life, so i think to be fair you must take this out, but still a decent 39+ jump laden.

Edit = Typo

You are right, partly. But he is thinking about a Conda, and I think at this point he has played enough to do the FSD booster unlock.

I have unlocked it in my ASP, my third ship.

The Annie is the best all round ship in the game, i have 5 of them for different roles but also one that's a multipurpose.
My multi ship 'The Dammaz Kron' has a refinary, mining lasers, 128T of cargo, full weapons load out, 2 SRVs and a 46LY jump range.
Swap out one cargo rack for an AMFU and it could explore the black for years with no problem.

Annie's excel at most things from a really good miner, decent AX gun boat and an extreme explorer (82LY+ jump).
If you could only have one ship in the entire game i would pick be the Anaconda due to its versatility.

One of the best feelings ive had in ED is the first time i flew one out of JM, never forget that experience.

That was my initial reaction too, but this comes down to each commander, doesn't it?

I bought one, years ago now. Used it for a bit, half-engineered at the time. But it wasn't for me. Too big, too slow, too silly with it's mass which can't be reconciled in my mind no matter what mental gymnastics I perform.

It wasn't long before I sold it Like I said it comes down to each commander and I'm just not a large ship sort. I own none, save the Orca, but everyone knows that's a medium at heart.

The Krait II is Elite's best ship, by the way :)

Had an Anaconda, hated it, sold it, never went back.
When progressing from start I preferred to progress from Cobra to a Python set up for mining platinum or trading and make credits from that and from community goals when profitable - there have been some CGs that had enormous profits from trading.
I used a DBX for doing data missions to get Imperial rep and got a Cutter from the credits made by the Python. Cutter makes the best mining and trading ship imo.
I fly a Krait Phantom for exploring, great jump range and can fit everything you need for exploration and has better view, turning speed and landing footprint than the Anaconda.

Anaconda is the only vessel suitable for long range exploration that can equip a fighter bay. Fighters are fun - more with Horizon style canyons, but still on some odyssey worlds.

Anaconda is only ship which can fly dangerous, cover like 500 000 ly and do not dock for years of the game play. It has all tools to handle itself.
It is better to have fighter on-board with pilot for such long trips because ...
1. Old days (didn't fly so long after carriers) AI pilot could handle ship better on big-G planets. ... just jump out into fighter and she will save you in no-time :D
2. In Ody fighter + cannon plugin for EDMC = fast and effective flowers gathering. Just markup everything below from fighter, then land, then use canon to find marks back.

This sounds very interesting, but I don't fully understand it. Rudimentary geolocation is a constant pain in ED.

I use it more often nowadays, mostly as a long range engineering and module shopping taxi or to get somewhere before my carrier arrives. It's very good for passenger rescue at burning stations.

it really depends on you and why you want one.

but as a guy that hates swapping modules, I have 10 condas
2 for long range - 2 types of LR
1 for all round material collecting
1 passenger ship - with 5 hammers(protection, heh)
the rest are assorted killing types
a very versatile ship.

the only part that made me think twice was the day I bought 1, sooo big and slow and hard to steer..you get used to that real quick, at least I did.

Its a very versatile ship but in all cases for a specific purpose I've found for me there's another ship that's better suited. I have DBX for jumping around the bubble, data from Jameson, guardian stuff; AspX for farming materials from HGEs, Cutter for mining/trading/collecting with limpets; Python for Robigo passenger missions; Corvette for PVE combat; Krait mk II for AX; Phantom for distance exploration; Dolphin for short range exploration off an FC, etc, etc.
