Is the ASP Propeller driven?

Best thing about the Asp engine note is that when exploring (which the ship is best suited to), you are in SC so don't have to put up with it.

I love the Asp noise, just meaty enough to keep your ears open,, and the noises the ship makes while you're in boost assisted turns.. its like the whole ship is resisting your will and creaking in protest at the treatment you are handing out to it.

But then I am a committed Asp'er :p

Sorry that my first post is a bit negative but I have been on a long grind to purchase an ASP. On the whole its fine but the thruster noise is terrible. I was expecting something meaty strong and sexy. Maybe its me as I have been flown FSX and X-plane for years but is sounds as if I am flying a Boeing Stearman. Prop noise in space - it's a first......:(..
I had the same thought. I think the ASP is very polarizing in that regard. Some love it, some hate it. Together with the combat prone powerplant, I decided against keeping it.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

It is an Asp.

It is not an ASP.

Got it? :D

This was a public service announcement on behalf of the Pedant Party

The sound is great but it does sound like a prop plane, curiously! My Asp has taken me all the galaxy (well, to Sagittarius A* and back) and I just don't have the heart to sell her despite wanting a Python rather badly.

*lol* Indeed, the sound is silly. Sounds like a mix between a wannabe-sporty car engine and a lawnmower.

Asp is the reason i use my headset for longer periods than i would like to.
The sound that the asp gives out, sounds very much like a flatulent hippo having a seizural neurosis.

That is excatly what I thought when I first flew it. I thought, "Is this thing powered by a fart engine?" Still do like the noise for comical effect. There is nothing like speeding away from someone while generating a massive fart sound.:D

I prefer to think of it as an inefficient thruster heat venting system that causes rattling and gas escape that sounds like propellers. Think of it like when you fill your mouth with air, then slack your lips and push the air out. That kind of effect. But yeah it's a bit of a reach to come up with a reason why we'd hear that sound :p

Cause it's cool. The sound comes from the reverberation off of the ship. Like a needle on a record, otherwise you wouldn't hear it in space. That's my theory and I'm sticking with it.

ExASPerating, isn't it?

Love the Asp engine noise. Reminds me of the plane in the movie Airplane. Big 727 jet airliner that sounded like a prop plane.

The engine sound is the best reason to own the Asp.

It's a shame they've toned it down since 1.2 came out, it used to be even more throaty and loud than it is now.

The ASP sounds amazing. I used to love the Hauler, as it sounded like the Cobra shound have, a deep rumbling roar, but it seems to have changed Boo.

The ASP though, sorry - I think you are wrong.

It's ok Jackulate, I hated it too. Long live the minority! Great ship otherwise, stayed in it until I got a Clipper. (Which again, against the majority, I really didn't like very much but good stepping stone to Python)

Whaaaa? The Asp is by far the best sounding ship except perhaps the Viper! The thing is so much fun.

Try boosting with 4pips in engine, then immediately pop your landing gear, then as soon as it says "landing gear deployed" set engines to 0%. Hear that high pitch whistling? Then try corkscrewing using up and lateral thrust while you rudder right and pitch down. The thing sounds great!
