"Is the game dead?" returning players keep posting here and on reddit, due to blank Galnet

Sure, pretty stable.

Why isn't the date and time in the screen print??? And context surrounding the issue? Did you type your username/password wrong? How long did the issue persist? Not saying it is bogus, but really server downtime has not been an element of my gameplay, and I don't see it as a major topic on the forums either.

Regardless, I have played games with massive unscheduled server downtime... and they are stil rolling right along. (WoW anyone?) Clearly unscheduled server downtime is not a singular indicator of a game dying. And a single-screen shot of a user unable to connect is not a strong indicator.

The photos metadata dates my (I took the screenshot) photo back to december the 26th 2018.

You gotta be kidding me! you are complaining about server downtime with a single screenshot from Dec 2018???

How the heck does a single screenprint with no surrounding context from 2018 have relevance to this thread?

Just.... go away.

You guys got your prediction so bad, I wasn't even playing Elite that far back. The photos metadata dates my (I took the screenshot) photo back to december the 26th 2018.
So in 2020 you're using a screenshot from 2018 (at least, based on the topics of the threads in your tabs) and using a game launcher from 2014. At best you're using a 2-year-old launcher.

But you're denying that the launcher has the date that it has on it. It's not uncommon for you to just reject reality when it isn't convenient for whatever version of complaining you're feeling at the moment, but:

It's not like you have any credibility to lose, but wow.

could it be possible that that version number is purely for the launcher itself and not the game?

I can't say for sure either way. I don't know what that number is. But I found this on youtube right away. It's from spring 2019, the previous verison is dated 2017.

anyway not gonna look into it further and using something from 2018 is kind of deceptive but.. I'm not sure 2014 launcher proves the screenshot is doctored.

As your video shows, someone playing in Dec 2018 (as per the "photos metadata dates my photo back to december the 26th 2018") should have had a launcher version dated 2017 at least, not 2014. Then from April 2019 (date of video), a launcher version dated 2019.

Forgive me but as far as I've read the screen grab was only used in reply to Stigbobs claim that its the most stable game he's played and not to indicate that the game is dead/dying.

As for Stigbob it is often the case with him that he is able to so convincingly dismiss other peoples issues by having nothing to do with the features that cause issues. We love him dearly though.
Terrible terrible effort at a reply though wasn’t it.

- Screenshot from 2018.

- Launcher version from 2014.

- Screenshot of an out of game comms/networking issue (or possible server outage).

- Two whinge threads open in the background.

Less of a refutation and more of a conformation all told.

Edit - So much so, that if I was a conspiracy theorist I’d suggest it was actually a second account of @Stigbob ’s. 😉

But what if he was playing on Steam and that was just updating the game files? That guy updated his launcher by launching it manually. Was there no launchers between 2017 and 2019 or was Steam sidestepping what used to be a mainly Frontier-side thing?

Why would he bother to doctor this?

This is a flawless example of why I never just post a screenshot. I post a photo of my screen with me standing next to it holding up today's newspaper, which is on my phone, which is why I have two phones, one of which is purely for taking screenshots of myself posing in front of screens with my phone.

It saves me a lot of hassle and avoids confusion.
