Is there any actual public roadmap or major content coming to Elite or just updates and fixes?

Seeing how FDev reskinned skimmers to make them into Tharg drones, I am hoping the abduction of escape pods means we might see FDev reskin NPCs to look like Tharg zombie footsoldiers. That could be an interesting development and might succeed in getting me interested in the current narrative.

Personally, I am waiting for something new that isn't Thargoid related. It doesn't matter too much exactly what it is. A full year of Thargoids is getting a bit monotonous for those of us that are not combat motivated.
Without expecting a major update due to resources not being limitless (ie; gas giants, earth-like landing etc.), and within the scope of what's happening but not combat related, what would you like to see?

That seems to be a trick question that translates as 'Given there is no money to develop what you would like*, what would you like developed?'

*What is the source of the assertion that Frontier has limited funds to spend on the development of ED?

Oh the rage if Tharg on foot troops are just reskinned NPCs. But there may not be any one left that really cares so eh.

Which by itself can be viewed as completely fair.
While it may seem that certain things are not prioritized, it also comes down to need vs nice and there is no getting around that.
However, there is this thing where the Thargoids have been one of the main drivers since '84, and none of the other things have been scaled back.
I do concur that exploration especially could do with some TLC and expansion, however it also comes down to one thing at a time.
RN they are adding one of the biggest things to the elite universe, and tbqf it was a long time coming.

once again, Frontier prove they can only develop this game at the pace of a glacier.

absolutely no reason to keep playing this game, no substantial content is ever added, constant carrots dropped in front of players saying "amazing stuff yet to come" and when it does come, it's got zero substance or longevity or substantial fun / new gameplay loops.

The reason frontier won't say what's coming is because nothing is actually coming. The game is on maintenance mode with a skeleton development team and no major future content plans.

I assume you've seen all major wonders of the galaxy, did the Canonn Tour, found Voyager 1, travelled to Beagle Point, are a master of AX combat, helped new players get into the game, catalogued all types of salad in every sector of the milky way, and painted the toe nails of Aisling Duval then. Cool cool.

And also own every single ship in every configuration of modules, with every possible modification and ship kit and paint job, for every possible role they can do. That must be what all the people moaning about "no new ships" have (I guess they mean human ships).
And also played with every player in every squadron.
And reached quadruple Elite/Elite V.

If there was a roadmap, people would just argue about, try and make changes to or demand that their prefered part of it be prioritised
It's not like this community will ever agree, as it rarely does.
Been like that for years....

So yet again we have the old "Why isn't there a roadmap?" question. The first most obvious point is that only Frontier themselves can answer this. My opinion is that Frontier are not good at public relations, and don't know how to handle a community wanting to know more, being told something and half going "THIS SUCKS!!!!!!" half going "Uh, ok, whatever" and half going "I like it" (yes, I know three halves). So Frontier believe that it's better to stay quiet and be criticised for that than say something (some) people won't like.

The only thing I'd add is that you have seriously underestimated the number of halves ;-)

Plus:

  • Half complaining - YOU CHANGED YOUR PLANS! YOU SAID YOU WOULD DO THIS THING 10 YEARS AGO! IN AN OFF THE CUFF COMMENT!
  • Half complaining - YOU DIDN'T CHANGE YOUR PLANS! WHY DON'T YOU LISTEN TO US! WELL, TO ME AT LEAST - NOT THEM!
  • Half complaining - TELL US MORE! WE DON'T UNDERSTAND WORDS! THEN TELL US EVEN MORE!
  • Half complaining - STOP SPOILING THE SURPRISE! DON'T TELL US WHAT WILL HAPPEN! TELL US LESS!

I have no idea why anyone faced with that would decide the cheapest solution is just to keep quite and get on with things 🤷‍♀️

Fair question OP. I'd like to know too that ED has a long and fruitful future and not just when they'll turn off the servers (to a game that initially wasn't suppose to need them .... leave it alone jack .... walk way LOL)

I also believe SF is not relevant to the development of ED. It's the talk of the day but that too will pass ...LOL. I can't get away from my 'Oh Shiny' reaction tbh.

Roadmaps wise, we know that the Thargoids are the 'thing' and we get to see this being revealed piece by piece. This has all been a "passing ship in the night" to me! I'm personally off exploring but I'm getting burned out also ....so I need a change, or a rest at least and will park up somewhere for a while.

For example, if FDev published a roadmap today that includes plans to buff Exploration, then I'll be all intrigued. When it take forever to happen (meaning longer than my patience holds out), and then , finally releases and isn't what I personally expected, I'll be annoyed and I'll mouth off in a forum post or upload a youtube video rant. That's appropriate right? No wonder FDev keep schtum. Lesser or two evils I reckon.

S!

I'm not convinced the planet will outlive a medium term game roadmap, so I wouldn't really worry about it. The servers are currently running so play the game if you fancy it.

If I was a developer there would be NO interaction with the community. They'd get what they were given. There might be a forum, but any mention of the game would get you an instant ban.

I think you either have to go all-in, straight-up honesty and transparency with community interaction or be "you'll get what you're given". I'm not sure there's a comfortable middle ground.
