It is time to have that “TALK” my son

Many commanders feel that space legs and or atmospheric landings should be the next big development. In this I respectfully disagree. I feel that what needs to be developed are the tools necessary for us to play as a community and allow us to create are own emergent gameplay scenarios.

Tools already exist to allow commandos to play together sadly some are broken, bugged to hell or have been near enough abandoned by frontier.

What makes you think Squadrons (armchair generals mini-game) will be any different?

I just want to be able to put friends into categories,
have a proper way for people to mark what group they belong to,
and have a chat channel in game for the group you belong to.

No offense, but I can't seem to get four friends together in the same instance in this game. Wings don't work reliably now. How would you suggest they add a fleet (large enough to be fun), much less several fleets in the same environment to interact? They would have to move to a server based model right? That would likely come with monthly subscriptions, which may turn a lot of people off to the idea. Especially those who would rather not participate.

The amount of tears, whining and general mouth-foaming is going to be quite epic when Squadrons turn out to be nothing more than a glorified megaship.

Calling it right now.

"Emergent gameplay scenarios". Apart from it being a pile of buzzwords, without any quality control, the resulting scenarios will be 99% garbage and 1% guano.

This issue is on the schedule for this year. Why waste the key strokes babbling at each other now, when we will soon get a chance to discuss Squadrons with FD? I am convinced FD will roll out a FF Sub-Forum on this feature when they are ready to move forward. With that should come a proposal for how FD think Squadrons should be formed. Let's all sharpen our quills for when that discussion starts, and let this thread just pass into the obscurity the rest of the threads like this, by the OP, have gone.

Yes!!! space legs!!!

I can't wait until they get amputated. :p

So are you talking about a fleet management system like X3 had?... I don't know if ED could handle that... anyway, I just want one or two NPC wingmen to do my bidding.

Once in X3, I sent like 100 fighters after one of those Klingoid orb ships or whatever they were... they killed it, but I thought that my old PC was was going to die... I think the FPS got down to like 3 or 4. [haha]

Hello commanders
Yes it is me your friendly neighborhood Sky Marshal...Vicktore Beskor. Here to start the conversation about proper fleet mechanics and or Squadrons again...

More PvP complexities/antics for a game already buckling under the continued adding of complex sub-routines that neither players (nor devs apparently) know how to navigate.

This whole idea of releasing a barebones game and adding layer upon layer of convoluted and game breaking complexity is really starting to show its worth... Sadly this game seems to be breaking more and more by every patch.

As you can gather I don't have much faith left in this development plan. I'll state the obvious: A game should be feature complete at release. If I didn't know it already, then Elite: Dangerous has certainly taught me that.

But keep dreaming nonetheless. :)

'create are own' ???

'create our own'

This is probably why FD haven't been listening to your humble requests. They are sticklers for the use of 'Proper English' in any serious discussion ;)

This conversation needs to be more than just about Squadrons it needs to be about a vision of how Elite Dangerous can set itself apart from the others.
That is why I bring up words like Squadron alliance... proper colonization Mechanics we as a community need to be open minded and forward thinking if we want Elite Dangerous to be ahead of the curve.
This not about becoming a armchair dictator it is about having the tools necessary to build and risk the tools necessary to change the Galaxy map the way we see fit without having to ask the developers for help..
We as a community need to have a positive and open minds on what a 400 billion star systems game board can be like if we have the tools to play on it like we want...
This conversation is about freedom not roadblocks.

You talk about Elite setting itself apart from others but everything you've suggested here and in previous posts basically sounds like take elements of other games (like EVE) and put them in this game with little regard for existing mechanics.

We are not the developers of this game.
We are not the ones making design decisions.

Talking about what we want and dream about what could be is just setting oneself up for a huge disappointment.

"Set itself apart" by becoming more like EVE Online? What? Didn't get your dreams fulfilled there so you now come here?

Indeed we do (although we don't seem to agree on much, as a community) and, if recent practice is to be taken as precedent, Sandro will post a proposal thread (not a discussion thread - remember The Golden Rule) on the topic in the Focused Feedback Forum in due course - where we can all have an equal say.... :)

Very much looking forward to that FF, as and when it happens.

Until the FF, any debate will be premature. Without the framework from FD, we will only provide speculation. They need to provide the basics of how they for see this working within the current constraints of the P2P client model with no persistency for player induced environmental change.

I like the galaxy map as it is.
I don't want tinpot generals messing it up with their own private fiefdoms.
