It's an entirely different kind of flying, altogether!

In German ships are neutral gender, except when they're warships and are named after someone in which case they're referred to as masculine (ie, it's der Bismark, not die Bismark)

In German it could be all three, neutral, femal, or male gender, when you mention a ship.

If you just say "the ship" its "das Schiff", in that case it's neutral.
If you say the ships name f.e. "die Exxon Valdez", then its female
  1. Except you say that you work on the ship, then it would be "ich arbeite auf der Exxon Valdez" (I work on the E.V.). In that case its male. Thats wrong
If you name the kind of the ship, like "the tanker", then its "der Tanker", which is male.

Guess Germans tend to overengineer everything, even their languange :)

Any advice on flying the thing, or even on fitting him, is appreciated.
try elucubrating, writing and screenshotting less and flying more. guaranteed results.

btw that ship kit is just disgusting, you shouldn't be doing that to a fdl, but whatever floats your spaceship! 😉

Surprised you're not running Rails and Frags on your FDL, if going by its namesake (if it's what I'm thinking it is...).

My Vulture Exia has Frags because of the focus on CQ. :D

I didn't realise my ship had a namesake until I was googling latin translations yesterday. So no, it's not going by its namesake :).

Luckily not everyone agrees with your first point, which is why we have a forum with - y'know, users and text type stuff.

As for your second point, well I suppose there's no accounting for taste. It's not perfect, but it's better. It's just a shame that the FDL ship kit only works with about half of the FDL paintjobs.
It could be worse. It could be covered in spikes and girders and barbed wire and bad dragon dildos and whatnot, like you'd get in the raider ship kits.

Out of interest, how are you always at 23% heat? (I don't do much combat, but when I did, overheating was an issue for me)

I'm not always at 23% heat. The ship idles at about 36%.
All five of my beam lasers have the Thermal Vent experimental effect which means that if I fire them and miss the target, they generate more heat than they normally would, which makes my ship overheat in seconds.
If I fire them and hit the target though, all the heat generated by all the modules on my ship is transferred through the beams and dumped into the target ship. It's quite common to be sitting there firing five lasers, and to be at <10% heat. Occasionally I'll even hit 0% and the windows will ice up.

i didn't suggest you stop writing, nor any of the thousand things you might be doing, no doubt good stuff. just to focus on flying since you are asking about, well, flying. it is unclear to me what your actual purpose with this ship is if 99% of your attention goes into consumerist narcissistic basking. what do you even want to know?

that was just me messing with you. i really couldn't care less how you dress your dolls. :p quod erat demonstrandum.

i celebrate though that you take this with humor. i just may get randomly triggered when people make ostentation of paintjobs and kits. i'm a very unstable person with many issues. nothing personal. 🤡

The whole point of the thread was basically a "Give me fitting advice and I'll reward you with pretty pictures and takes of my adventures and growing skill", but Coriolis and Inara aren't playing nicely at the minute. I've created the fit myself on Coriolis, hopefully this will give people opportunities to provide witty, insightful and useful input on my build :).

For example, bloody hell, the recharge time is fifteen minutes!

I almost feel sorry for a Type-10 when I come across an NPC one while in my Fed Corvette. They just don't stand a chance because of the dire turn rate they have. Mind you... that is an NPC flown one. But they are just way too easy to kill in a Fed Corvette

I'd quite like to take the Corvette out into the belts and see how it performs, but I'm there to make credits, not lose them, and a combination of my hamfisted piloting and the Corvette's rebuy cost being something like 43m would probably see me out of cash at some point.
If I can fit - and fire - two long range 4D beams though, well, that could be interesting.

Corvette NPCs aren't noticeably harder to kill :)

because you want lots of megajoules to fill, maybe because you expect to get hit a lot, i presume. fdl would excel at not getting hit, but with multiple opponents it will happen so yes, it's a tradeoff, and the fatter you want to be the longer it will take to fill you up, that's just logic being ruthless. bi-weaves help, they recharge faster and are perfectly fine for pve, actually more efficient. there's also a shield special effect for fast charge (although maybe just as bad a choice as hi-cap on a fdl ;-))

looks like a pretty solid build, though, if you are paranoid about missiles and a bit single minded about weapons but ... anything goes! have fun!

suggestions: consider exploring fixed and mixed weapons.

It is traditional to refer to ships using the “female” gender. The ship is considered a mother figure that protects her crew.

But times change and maybe “male” ship gender deserve equal opportunity.

But keep your “he” ship away from my “she” ship, don’t trust spacers!
Some ships were called "he" in the past (Bismack for example) and I think some languages don't adhere to "she" for ships altogether.

Dammit, I knew I'd get ninja'd...
Someone had to be first :D.

No flying for me today, or for the next few days, because I'm not so much up to my balls in work as I am up to the balls of someone standing on my head. I shall grab plenty of beer and have a gaming marathon when everything is done which should be no more than a week from now and ideally sooner.

No, that is not male. That is female genus in dative case.
