It's now time to throw P2P out the game.

in that case it could a standard running the instance which can't send enough information to the pro causing skipped packets and lag that way as the game is waiting for the information which isn't coming fast enough.

Factor in Internet issues with that as well and it's not a pretty sight

"Netcode" is programmer jargon as we couldnt get round to saying "Networking system" all the time.

I shall enquire about my opponents device, thanks mate, nice answer.

if your using WiFi and something like Virgin Media you could connect the Pro to the router with a cable and put the router in modem mode and see if this sorts out your problem, if it does you might have something on the WiFi using more of the bandwidth and not leaving much for the ps4.

The modem/ router we have here increases bandwidth when streaming video but lowers it for data this might be happening if your watching Netflix etc as well as playing ED.

Nothing else is connected to the line when i'm playing bar a laptop that is disconnected as needed. I'm a stickler about whats on the network lol.

it still might be worth checking, when nothing is on WiFi the router still divides bandwidth just in case. Also TV boxes can suck up bandwidth when updating. All of these things mentioned can throw a spanner into network latency.

I also once had a router that remembered all the devices that ever connected to it and tried to divide bandwidth to all of them even if they weren't connected, after removing all the devices that we no longer had the network speed went up five fold.

Another Thing is. If you live in an Apartment and you still have the same code for your Wifi as when you paid for them. Someone might be piggy backing your connection. Passwords are easy to come by.

Also changing the WiFi channel as there might be other routers which are causing interference to your connection.

In the days of BNC and Cat5 wired networks it was never a issue but now WiFi is here interference is a real issue.

It seems you never consider other things that could be an issue.
Well I had to deal with a client who owns an Autobody shop with the same problem. Guess what. It was not due to the network issue It acted just like a network lag. But it is what he downloaded that cause it. You know the unregulated Adult sites he downloaded about 1,000 graphic pictures. So when he playing a game pvp he had the same issues. It was a Virus. I also know some hardware can cause some of the same issue. Like faulty Wireless card or Eithernet port. But what do I know. It still funny hearing him say Please don't tell my Wife.

You also forgot Storage and low amount
of Ram could also have a factor in FPS lag and could be a bottleneck in games. But what do I know.

Have you look on PS4 support? PS4 very laggy and glitchy with good internet connection

Your post is redundant and vague. "1,000 graphic pictures" indeed- have you ever seen a NON-graphic picture?

Of course there can be different causes. Malware does all sorts of stuff. I was generalizing, assuming that people don't just download and run every executable they find, in blind hope that they aren't all idiots, all the time. Also- don't play games over wireless. Just don't. If your computer sucks, then it's your own damn fault that the games run badly, stop bothering everyone.

Ahhh MegaTurnip, you've reinstalled the game then, I guess? What has it been...a whole week...since you quit forever? [haha]

To be honest, I was expecting you to use a different email & forum name after your previous, hilarious meltdown (something like "TheMegaHissy-fit" would have been an excellent choice). Anyway, welcome back & I look forward to your next monumental paroxysm...they really are most entertaining! [big grin]

So you don't know what Adult sites are. Maybe this would be a Better hint. XXX sites.

I learn a long time ago not to generalize thing. What you Assume is thrown out the window when you start working on other people computers. People do stupid things. One guy had an issue with his hard drive. When you assume could be a corrupt hard drive you might be able to take some of the important info off of it. Guess what he doses. He takes apart the WHOLE hard drive. Platters and all. When you ask them why? You get. "I can repair machines at work. Why not a hard drive?" Then you find out he is an total idiot.

For some people they have no other option. So stop with don't do this or that. You are acting badly on the forums.

The the laptop I use is on my Signature.

I'm very sorry for assuming you weren't an idiot. I won't make that mistake again.

You seriously can't be that pedantic. I'm not a system tecchy. Just a gamer.

Exactly, and yet you're lecturing FDev on how to design complex networking architecture. There's nothing wrong with being frustrated by a problem, but there is something wrong with venting it at random people.

I play only in open on a vanilla PS4.
I also live on the most geographically isolated spot on the planet, and yet it's generally pretty stable for me.

I find that totally amazing, honestly.

Every now and then I get instances where everyone is jumping around, but it's far from the norm.

Lots of confounds...

Routing is a fickle beast. What seems a robust connection in a gameplay instance can turn to soup for reasons completely unknown to everyone in that instance simply because some muppet made a typo in a routing table half the world away.

Can close it down now fellas. seems to be the data packets between the pro and standard Ps4.

(We still need dedicated servers though)

Lets pretend that P2P doesn't have instancing issues, cheating issues, exploits, clogging, huge loading delays, or the fact everyone's connection can be ruined by someone else with a connection issue. No, lets instead be critical of this guys router setup as if other people with different routers or PS4 models won't contribute to the issue. Let's defend the garbage P2P structure when there's absolutely no reason to.

If the router is correctly configured, and the ISP isn't treating p2p traffic like it has something dangling from it's nose - then it's just a basic matter of diagnosing the entire traversal through the open and continually breaking internet via #deity-knows what path on a per-hop basis until it eventually arrives at another well-behaved ISP and correctly configured router - or is mangled into out-of-order fragments somewhere along the way, or completely lost into oblivion with no way of you knowing it even existed in the first place.

Simple really.

It's alright, several people in here are happier being derogatory than useful. I've seen it on more than a few posts now, don't fret, just people dissatisfied with something or other in life. Not our problem.

You don't need the fastest connection, at least not for ED. But what you do need for basically all twitched based multiplayer games is a reliable connection with ideally no packet losses. At certain daytimes a simple DSL connection can work better than a 5 times faster fiber line, mainly due to peek times where people are streaming. People with high speed connections often tend to ignore this and blame the 'netcode' for any quirks.

You can have the fastest connection and still suffer P2P latency issues because you and everyone else in the instance gets connection with someone who has connection issues. You are limited by the weakest link with P2P and there are a lot of weak links out there.

There's absolutely no sense in blaming yourself or others for connection issues because this is a netcode problem, something that is solved with a server/client structure.
