It's time for a steamcharts thread!

so steam stats are no longer meaningless?

(finally!)

They are only meaningless when someone doesn't get their meaning, which sadly happens way to often on this forum.

Naysayer: The game is dying, there are less concurrent players than 3 months ago!!!
Not an idiot: That's because they released a major update 3 months ago, they will go up again with the next major update. It doesn't mean anything.
Naysayer: You are lying you stupid fanboy!!! THE NUMBERS DONT LIE!!! Frontier pays you to say these things!
Not an idiot: We'll see.

(3 months later)

Not an idiot: See? The player numbers are up again, the game wasn't dying.
Naysayer: YOU SAID THAT STEAM NUMBERS ARE MEANINGLESS!!!

I knew this would be a silly thread.

They never have been.

I am thinking about creating a model, which has to reproduce the steam charts. With such a model it could be possible to estimate the total number of players (on steam, per day,...).

But I hesitate as it would be some work, and there is nothing to gain with it. The current thread just triggered some motivation in me. I think I wait until the motivation fades away ;-)

Fair enough, but then I take my own into accordance more. Maybe I'm an egotistical, narcissistic git. Could very well be, all things considered. But, frankly my dear... :)

There's a lot to account for on the internet.

This is for sure for every thread.

Missused applied statistics:
This forum comprise the same amount of silly people like every other set of enough people. We have a few thousand people here which is more than enough. Therefore every thread with enough participation is going to be silly at least in parts. The other threads are silly from the start, thats why they don't get participation. Q.E.D. every thread must be silly.

... side note: where have the numbers gone? We had the number of people somewhere down on the page? Switched off?

dunno what this 'naysayers vs not-idiots' tribal war fiction is about but ... whatever, cool story bro.

I knew this would be a silly thread.

silly it is indeed, lol.

It was meant to put the 'steamcharts are meaningless' quote into perspective. And it's not fictional.

There is nothing silly about Pink Floyd though.

For me Beyond is a huge step in the right direction. The new USS and BGS system, new mining and exploration mechanics, dozens of new phenomena to find, trade improvements, C&P and engineer overhaul, the orrey map, 1000 megaships and installations, night vision, scenarios, the codex and probably much more that I don't remember right now... For me that's way better than Multicrew and SLFs. Hopefully they'll sort out most of the bugs that came with it soon.

There was one significant downside for me though (see, I'm still partially bitter).

We all know you'll get over it.
Might be time to change your avatar though. ;)

Oh no, there will never be a correct time for that, it was a gift from a friend.

Plus my next ship will be called macOS, so I can continue to play the game in 'macOS' ;)

Well, it's always time for a steamcharts thread, even though they tend to be silly. Or maybe precisely because they tend to be silly!

Anyway, Elite Dangerous just reached the highest average concurrent player number since it launched on steam.
https://steamcharts.com/app/359320

Now if these numbers are anything to go by (they probably aren't) that means the game has never been more popular, which is quite an achievement for a 4 years old game.
So despite being buggy, 3.3 seems to be a pretty good update. Well done FDEV (apart from the bugs)!

PS
Oh, and it would be nice if some of the doomsayers who argued for hours 3 months ago could come here and show some videos of them eating their socks. Thanks!

I think it was the sale where the CMDR DLX was going for $14.40

Might be able to sell an expansion then. Yes? :)

Sorry... My LEP is lusting.

I avoid Steam charts like I have avoided hearing the Rolf Harris release of 'Stairway to Heaven' for all these years. Notwithstanding the odd random chart, or link to said abomination posted in forum posts from time to time, so far so good.

(all links to any audio repository for said performance will be ignored)
