I've Calculated How Many Mats You Need for G5 Gear

Having survived the onslaught of Taupe Cobras, Yellow Adders and Scarlet Kraits, I've managed to acquire quite a few G1 - G3 items and have noticed a trend across all weapon and suit types. The trend is as follows:
  • The bottom two material requirements start at 5 units for G1 and increase by 10 every grade.
  • All other material requirements start at 1 unit for G1, increase to 5 units at G2 and increase by 5 each grade above G2.
This trend has allowed me to calculate how many materials you need to reach G5 from G1. I will preface the data below with the disclaimer that I haven't yet seen the G5 requirements but I am highly confident in the trend, so I've asterisked the G5 columns and I will update these tables as more data becomes available:

Having fully upgraded an Oppressor from G1 to G5, I can absolutely confirm that these numbers are correct. Additionally for those who are looking for this information in the future, Inara has all of this information listed.

I'd attach a G3'd Executioner but it seems as though I've hit the 10 attachment limit 🙃

The material requirements have been reduced from the Alpha to release by a fairly significant amount.

For example, to upgrade a Dominator suit with a full suite of weapons, you need 1,043 materials in total - much less than the 1495 materials needed in the Alpha. In addition, we can buy equipment at higher grades - further reducing the material grind, with the added bonus of free Engineering mods if you're lucky.

Edit: Some formatting adjustments.
Edit 2: Excel goofed and gave me slightly lower numbers for the suit materials. Should be good now! (Hopefully...)

Man, gotta get a refund on my second account, i thought given the chance they might back off a bit on the grind, instead it looks like they cranked it up a notch and even before EDO it was an impediment to gameplay.

Given that upgrades are non-removable the GRIND is still kind of Game-Breaking.

I`ll never have time to gather this s*** - why should I even bother then?

So sad now...
Still not happy about that, along with the global material caps...

Wait, how do you do that?
Get lucky. Some vendors randomly sell, what appears to be one off, upgraded equipment.
^^^ That, unfortunately. I think the vendor reset is tied to the daily tick for the BGS...

Because the grind is so awful, and the ability to get pre-upgraded equipment....

You are better off flying around the galaxy looking for vendors who sell upgraded equipment than you are actually trying to unlock them yourselves.

This, although not if you want to get g5 stuff. I think it's limited to g3 and the grind to g3 isn't that long.

The thing that bothers me the most is permanent mods.

I think suits you upgrade yourself/mods you apply, should be removeable.

While suits you find at stores cannot be modified.

Also it shouldn't be random for getting upgraded suits. Just make them available to everyone.

What kind of engineering can you do to weapons and suit? Is it just to increase level or there are different engineering options for each?

There are two stages. The first is what I have outlined here which is basic upgrading of your equipment to G5, which unlocks up to 4 Engineering ModSlots™️ as well as increase the stats of your equipment - damage, shield health and so forth. The second is filling those ModSlots™️ via the new Odyssey Engineers, which give you access to Noise Suppressors on Rocket Launchers, enhanced melee damage and extended battery life upgrades for your suit, etc.

Yup, this is what I was thinking. The idea that I have to upgrade two different versions of the same weapon to G5 just so I can have two different types (silenced and non silenced for example) is nuts to me. It's also massively "anti-fun" because you're forced to not play with ideas... You have to commit to one and that means not doing anything for weeks, maybe longer. Just... upgrade, upgrade, upgrade... wait.... ok I'll try this. And hope it works out. If not... tough. Start again!

Sooooooooo.
Less mats is a step in a right direction I guess. Still too much IMO. Also I haven't played much yet, but do we have traders for data and items now? Is MI drop chance increased? Remind me why engineering stuff is permanent?

I raised this exact concern with the Alpha version of this thread. Unfortunately the Alpha forums were nuked into oblivion and I can't find them anymore.

This upgrade / Engineering system heavily discourages experimentation. Best way to go about it right now is to purchase equipment with the mods on them and test them individually before crafting a loadout. Even then you might discover a better combination of mods and have to trash your gear...

How do you view the stats?
They should be displayed when you go to select or upgrade your equipment, but currently they seem to be bugged and are omitting even the DPS numbers.

The Alpha didn't show much in terms of stats for the weapons, but it showed more than we're getting now. Guess I'll have to do the frame-by-frame analysis to get the weapon velocities again.

Give us the stats FDEV! All the stats!

...plz? :)

Has anyone made a preliminary guide for obtaining these materials yet?. (example being where to find materials with examples.)
Find an industrial settlement with two IND buildings, sneak into the CMD building and shut down the alarms. Methodically eradicate any opposition and loot every container and data point you come across. You'll find most of the items you need here, but you'll need to head to the CMD centers of Military settlements for things like Suit Schematics and Weapon Schematics.

You should also be able to find Weapon Schematics at Irregular Markers POIs with Threat Levels above 2 as I did in the Alpha, but I haven't found that POI yet in the release build.

I'm on it :) Lots of places to video though.

Just found a gem of a location that's new since alpha and it's huge so taking time to "map" it out.
