ANNOUNCEMENT January Update - Patch Notes

Thank you for:

1. Making void opal etc. mining not even worth it when it takes a ridiculous load out, flying to a ring over and over again, finding said ring and spending a few days there only to be screwed over by the system.

2. Not fixing 90% of the bugs in the game as usual.

3. Having almost no improvement to gameplay.

4. Adding no significant content to the game.

Nice list of bug fixes ! ED must be the only game I take time to compltely read the list of fixes lol

I don't want to be one of those people who always complains about their pet bug whenever a changelog is released, but many Xbox players have been locked out of various Horizons content for probably a year now and it would be really nice if the devs would acknowledge it and fix it?

Exploration ARX rebalance = more ARX? Is good, is very good, is immensely fair and just, cos I like it.
FSS changes seem a fair compromise given the wide spectrum of opinions on the issue. Didn't get exactly what I preferred, but so what.
Thanks Frontier for actually doing the beta public test and reacting reasonably to it. Also for promising future such tests. We appear to be a fractious lot, and you can't please all of the cmdrs all of the time, but you do pretty well.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I am glad we are getting an update! but shouldn't a LOT of this stuff been fixed periodically? rather than banking it up for an update slot that otherwise could of brought some more content to the game?

I do not know how many players share my playing motivation, but for me I enjoy goals and working toward them (collecting tech broker modules, becoming triple elite, collecting all powerplay modules, collecting all ships, collecting credits, maxing engineers etc) but since I have done pretty much all of them I have found very little motivation to play, in the past year I have only logged in perhaps 5 or so times (for IS initiatives and AXI related matters) and now thanks to this update, this is going to be a further delay on the period. There is not even a single tech broker module this update, noting to grind at all.

I do sincerity apologize for being a little more pessimistic on this matter, Elite is perhaps my most loved game I have, and the lack of engaging content so far over the past year has been very saddening, not just from a game progression state but also for myself (as I find the game becoming more stale as time goes by) . hopefully this gets a big 180 redemption next update! :) and please for the love all things elite, don't postpone those fleet carriers for another year! :D :D :D

ARX
  • Balance improvements for the generation of ARX, particularly for exploration-related gameplay.

Thanks for listening :)

Also this:
  • Instead of showing a notification for each individual asteroid belt cluster discovered, we now condense as many as we can into one message.

There are loads of more significant things in the notes obviously but these little QOL tweaks have a cumulative effect on the whole experience.

Do you mean this bit?
Updated the way we check a player's entitlements to fix an issue where the Horizons update is not being recognised as installed.

because if you don't care for surface signals, just scanning systems, and you have 5-6 bodies scanning for locations in the back, that affects the performance.

which needs to be proven first,
Right now it's just a wild guessed assumption that it affects performance in any noticeable way.

that it does, my system is pretty low end. I started noticing this a lot more when the April update hit, i can make it about 3 bodies before performance has a significant drop. before i scan i can be sitting around 57-60FPS once i scan a few planets that are searching for locations the movement becomes a stuttering mess and the framerate drops into the teens to mid 20s, if i keep going the performance gets a lot worse.

Ok, good thing you mentioned that, because it opens a whole different issue. Where exactly in the game is it stated at which rate each ship takes heat damage? I believe its nowhere, which is extremely bad. How are players supposed to even know about such things? Read all the patch notes?

Heat capacities and dissipation rates aren't listed either. Many mechanisms aren't openly documented and it's largely up to players to figure out how things work.

At least this one has patch notes to let us know something has changed.

It's in the patch notes.

So does this meet anything that's in the most wanted fixes in the tracker?
Looking at the "top voted" list...

1) FSS Delay - yes
2) Thargoid repair counts - yes
3) Conflict zone contents - yes
4) Galaxy map search - yes
5) Invincible heart - yes
6) Tiling artifacts - yes
7) Keyboard failure - yes
8) Heart reset - yes
9) Instance splitting - should be at least reduced
10) Tinting - NO
11) Seismic charges wing issues - yes
12) Thargoid pulses - NO
13) Core mining fragments - NO
14) Exiting game hangs - NO
15) Rubber banding - yes
16) Chat icon '1' - NO

So all the top 9, and two more of the next seven, which is everything that's got to at least two bars of votes.

...plus another sixty or so described fixes, some of which cover multiple bugs, not all of which have got as far as Confirmed, so the "this shouldn't be a popularity contest" crowd have something to be happy about too.
