Just something I've noticed between FDev Streamers and "Regular" Streamers

Most regular Elite streamers show their frames per second as standard or at least will if you ask them. They also show in their computer specs in the channel description. BUT if you ask the FDev streamers to do the same they ignore you, ask again and the mods threaten you, ask a third time and you get banned from the Twitch channel.

So for Arf, Bruce, etc, can you explain the reluctance to show some basic game and computer information?

Dear OP. Not all of use are fascinated with the FPS, as long as its good enough, that's fine.

What would be the point of them showing the FPS? They could deploy any PC they want to stream. They could pick a 3090 with a monster PC behind it and it would show a great FPS. What would that mean for people watching. Nothing.

And your not going to get a reply.

Maybe include examples from other developer streams where they do that, can't think of any myself. More of a thing for independent streamers who need the views. Especially SC streamers as they seem desperate that ppl believe you can get more than 20 FPS :D

I seem to recall when Big Dave said he got good FPS from his old rig - don't remember it making anyone happy :sneaky:

Because the stream isn't about how well the game runs on the CMs' computers. Plus it's irrelevant and annoying spam, especially by now as you should have realised they won't show it to you.

I don't recall Dave saying how well his old rig ran it, just that he was using it.

Not necessarily. I have a powerful PC and my FPS in Odyssey do not correspond with my HW.
If they picked a monster PC and had low FPS despite that then it would be simply embarrassing.

I understand where OP is coming from.
Exactly. We all know what the "recommended" 60 FPS specs are for Odyssey, and a majority of people with those specs are not getting anywhere near that in settlements. So when the devs stream Elite it would be nice to see how their own company computers are doing.

FDev aren't going to show the FPS counter in a company-produced livestream. They are trying to sell a product. That is the goal of the livestreams -- to grow the community and ultimately sell more copies of the game. They want to present a polished product in such a way as to represent the way they intend for an average user to interface with it. A neon-green number in the bottom left of the game screen is not how they envision average users interfacing with their product.

So, as much as you want them to turn on the FPS counter so that you can see it bouncing between bright red 27 and bright yellow 31 so that they can "be owned" it's just not going to happen.

All true. One can hope though that in the spirit of "transparency" FDev will allow their game's performance to be seen by potential customers.

do we?
care to show where it's specified the resolution, setting and fps for recommended and minimum specs?

I actually understand why they do that since the purposed of their stream is not hardware review nor a fps e-peen contest.

In my own case:
FPS are not relevant to me in a game as long the game play smooth enough and without stutters
So it doesnt matter if a game runs at 30, 60 or 200 fps
And i say that as someone that played ED on XB1S for more than 3000h
While also playing about the same amount on PC 🤷‍♂️

But yea, there are some people that, no matter if the game is good or bad, they will praise or diss the game based on how many fps they get in that game

Literally from D. Braben himself, on these Forums, in May 2021. "We had a similar thought process for Odyssey, especially considering that the lower spec machines will tend to be five years old or more, or be laptops, that 30 fps would be acceptable as a minimum spec performance. Separately, we have heard reports of very high spec machines failing to perform as expected." Recommended specs are on the Steam page.

Threaten..? You don't get banned for asking a well reasoned question 3 times.

May I remind you of the rules that you agreed to when you joined this forum regarding the discussion of moderation. So please refrain from that during future posts.

sometimes, you just have to accept a no.
if you feel the need to spam your demand, they have every right to ban you.

look at it this way:
i don´t think it is up to the cm´s to make such decisions in the first place. they are not some random streamers, they are employees.
maybe ask if they could do it for the next stream, so they can ask their superior.
it still won´t happen, but it doesn´t force a reaction.
we all know the performance isn´t optimal and their refusal to show the fps is basically an admisssion to this.
so what could you possibly achieve here?

i was in a pretty similar position when i noticed how curated ed´s steam forums were.
negative posts being deleted without notice or reason et cetera(i guess it was a mod on a power trip, it´s much better now)
but is it really worth fighting over this stuff? and what for?
let them do their thing, think your part and move along.
remember it when you plan your next purchase, as this is all the leverage you will ever get.

Dear OP. Not all of use are fascinated with the FPS, as long as its good enough, that's fine.
That's the problem, it wasn't and still isn't good enough. Tarkov, a game renowned for its poor FPS/stability and still in Beta performs better than ED Odyssey does in a CZ.

Its hard to gauge FPS visually over stream/video. FPS counter would be a useful way to see game performance. 3090 with a monster PC wouldn't show "great FPS". A 3090 and a monster PC couldn't even support a high refresh rate monitor you would expect with a high end build. Could probably barely scrape 60 frames in a high CZ, if that. Just abysmal specs/performance ratio with ED:O when compared to literally any other game ... apart from probably SC ...
And your not going to get a reply.
Aged well ...

Just another example of whiteknights not wanting to know how bad the game runs. The literal act of closing your eyes and putting your fingers in your ears shouting "I don't care what you say, this game is perfect and has no flaws!". Nobody has ever solved a problem by ignoring it ...

Idk the specific circumstances around the OP, however if Fdev legitimately refused to show FPS on livestreams it doesn't surprise me. Lack of transparency has been a running theme with Fdev for the past many years and this would just fit with that reputation.

But yet, even if that were true, evidently when it comes to popularity it seems not to have the relevance that those seem to want to apply to Elite in converse. It's almost like it's just something to hang an argument on, bash something, or troll someone with.

No one disagrees that the performance is abysmal. What made you decide to be the consumer champion, why should it be you, and what do you hope to gain from it?

I'm not surprised you were told to shut it.

Pretty sure he wouldn't have bothered to mention it if it wasn't running ok. He's generally not one to try and hornswoggle people.
This is what was most infuriating (and , dare I say, verging on the dishonest) about Mr. Braben's statement - it implied everything and stated nothing. They were weasel words, and they were extremely disappointing.
