Krait Mk. II, it's now a Python analog

I'm not a Python fan, so I'm curious - will Python lovers switch over the the Krait or stay with their Python?

the low profile is what interests me the most and what i love about the cobra. but it will be hard to part ways with my python. we've been through so much

I will also get on the VR bandwagon, but first I need my man-corner ready, and will need something more powerful than the 1060 6gb (which was a temporary solution anyway).
And the Krait could replace the Vette as my DW2 ship.

I had already signed up for that with the Krait. Looking forward to it and I will certainly be bringing along a SLF for canyon running.

Same here. I'm looking forward to looking left and right to see the multis unloading.

Yup, or maybe missile racks, that could look pretty epic too. Decisions, decisions.

I'm extremely disappointed that the trailer shows a very poor example of courtesy and control when leaving the slot. It teaches young up-coming commanders that speeding is acceptable. Disgraceful !

If you aren't hitting the slot at max speed and boosting - you are doing it wrong.

Krait MKII What i don't like, and what it could do to better live the pirate life:

- The weapon placement on top is weak to aimed shots with explosive weaponry.
Loosing the main firepower this way is a serious drawback.
- The Krait has 3 large and 2 medium slots, the addon however will add techbroker weapons
of the large category to the game. This does not include the necessary tools for piracy IMO,
since those are missiles, railguns and the cytoscrambler.
- Piracy requires a lot of tools 4 utility slots is too slim a margin, how about 5?

So my suggestion is to release an alternative, like the chieftain did:
A variant, the Outrider.

Keep the internals, or maybe split a larger internal slot into 2 smallers.
Add up to 5 utility slots.
Change hardpoints to 1 large 3 small 2 medium and place the large on top, keep mediums and put the smalls in the wingtips/on cockpit.
Increase speed and maneuvering slightly and reduce hull slightly.

What i really like:
The style, looks silhouette sound cockpit, the slf capability and generous internals.

I agree on the utility slots. I find it amusing the the utility ships have 4 while a pure combat (therefore, not utility) FDL has 6.

Just give this one and the challenger 5 or 6.

Actually, in the video, it looks like retractable stairs. Oddly enough, they retract separately from the landing gear.

You can see the elevator down by the floor at the front landing gear

My Python will stay what it is: An icy cold smuggler with generous cargo space for contraband. My Krait will be almost as icy cold but with a more active transfer of property in mind.

So... the krait has 1 degrees more pitch speed than the python but goes a bit faster 381 with A class. Smaller cargo but fighterbay, same utilities, same hardpoints and almoste same placements. Almoste the same jump range. Same power distributor and plant.

Less hull and less shields buy about 20% each

This thing better have lateral thrusters like a viper or its not going to be doing much but loosing to a python... i mean yea.. ship launched fighter.. if thats how you roll i guess might tip the balance.. ooo it can at least run from the python!

I wouldn't take the pitch rate as a single value; the Python might look amazing on paper but it's a ship that has one of the largest variations between blue zone and outside the blue zone. Under the stresses of combat, you'll likely be spending a lot of time in "boost recovery" between boosts and outside the blue zone - and the Python really isn't great in that situation.

If the Krait is better behaved outside the blue zone than the Python, that's a huge - perhaps the single biggest - advantage it will have over the Python and it will not show up in a stats comparison.

My biggest hope for the Krait is that it doesn't drift too much.

The Krait is a better looking Python that gives up a class 6 optional slot for the ability to launch fighters. It's a tiny bit faster with basically the same manoeuvrability. Not sure how it handles in supercruise compared to the Python.

I'll be keeping my Python, but I like the Krait and will be getting one. If you ignore the fighter hanger you can probably get the same jump range as a Python with a better cockpit view. So I will most likely turn my exploration Python in to a trader and making the Krait my exploration ship(assuming decent supercruise handling).

Fast, Small, Powerfull, cheap.

i love it but we'll see krait everywhere.

"little" OP for me

How do you know it's OP? It can have some real issues, in the beginning lol. It could be UP, instead lol.

I never needed a Python, because of the Cobra MkIV, so I never bought one... the Krait however looks great, it will be treat to fly it - especially for VR CMDRs.

Yeah I can see what you mean. I also have a fully engineered Cobra III (slightly more jump range), and Python. I mostly fly the Cobra. Easy for planetary, quick/ agile...hearty.

No, but it may become more dedicated than multi-role, and I will be parting out my filthy federation gunship for a brand new fully G5 engineered* Krait!

*Hull & PP excluded.

Depends if it gives a comparable hull tank or not for me. The SLF bay makes it quite attractive, as the FGS just didn't work for me.

Yea i would rather fly a krait than an FGS but then i would fly lots of ships befor i flew one of those space wadrobes!
Looks and dirty fed scum aside it does seem better than the FGS on paper too.

The Krait looks like it combines the features I liked best about the AspX and the FGS , the ships I used the most before I moved on to the cutter. I miss the freer canopy view of the AspX and the FGS' ability to use an SLF as a medium ship. The python didn't survive well enough in a CZ for me like the FGS did and I probably have less than 75 hours total in a python. (also realizing having to generally contend with Kraits, Challengers, T-10's and newer ships in a CZ!) So I'm interested to trying the Krait out and I wonder if it'll beat the Challenger for me as my favorite medium ship (currently chieftan). The Krait also seems like a decent outpost mission runner and could be intentionally somewhat favorably geared for newer players progressing in ED for the first time such as it could perhaps be easier to be credit financially survivable for a newer player in a krait than a python. And it has that more general sleek fighter-like low-profile look and feel for those who prefer it. The surprising limit of only four utility slots I can only guess is that FDev did so to not have the Krait considered overpowered over the python.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. The krait seems to be to the python what the viper mk 4 is to the Cobra mk 3 (and by the same manufacturer).
