Krait vs. Python - Power Distributor

Is this actually a complaint about the Python being hard done by in comparison to another ship?
Really?

I have one of each.

initially my lightweight exploration-build Krait couldn't boost, so I keep upgrading the PD until it could (Guardian tech is good for this, because it's "pre-engineered", you can just experiment with different sizes). When I got a Python, I was initially using it stripped down for passenger runs, and had the same problem - no boost. And it was noticeable that I needed bigger internals for the Python than for the Krait.

So the difference between the two isn't just 30t of mass, it's amplified by the ability to use lighter internals in the Krait.

Python for haulage/fetch missions - best ship in the business

However I have converted my Krait into a short range exploration ship, with a SLF and SRV, perfect for my needs for those 500ly trips where I might want to explore a planet.

Different ships, different roles, no competition between the two for me

For me, my Python (like yours) is my main cargo ship. My Krait, however, makes a really good Mat Gatherer. With two shield boosters and a little love from the Engineers it's got shields just north of 1,100. Two medium beam lasers and one large (all efficient with thermal vent), plus two large multicannons means I can camp out in High/Haz Res or Combat Zones, melt anything appropriate and then go shopping. Having a limpet collector helps.

My OmniConda keeps flipping back and forth between mining and being a cattle-wagon.

Think of it like a BMW 5-series.
Don't ever use the word Krait and BMW in the same sentence. How dare you give my favourite ship a bad rep!!! :D
(I do boost out of stations in my Krait though at 550 m/s) :D
Apart from the BMW comparison I agree with your post.

The same engines and the same distributor should use the same power. Anything else makes little sense. Considering the Krait is notably faster, and further considering that permaboost is an issue in PvP, I'm going to say I think this was an oversight which will be fixed. Well caught.

On the subject of 'vs Python'...

By the way, the Krait cannot do what my python can do. My python has 620 shields with 50/37/40 resists, 2600 armor with 35/35/40 (military bulks) can take out 2 elite anacondas at once and still deliver 192t of cargo.

The Krait can do all of that but without any cargo at all. As soon as you add a few cargo racks to the Krait, you have to go shield tank and things get less satisfactory. The python is still one of the very best hybrids AND with cargo.

I actually had half a mind to make a thread these last few days extolling the awesome python and saying that none of these new ships have taken it's crown as the ultimate multirole. It also flies really nicely and has excellent hardpoints, two things which make or break a ship for me.

I have new love for my python, it can do literally anything, whereas all the newly introduced ships have their niche. My Chief is really specced for pvp, if I bought a Krait it would be only for assassinations (currently I flip a coin between sending the python or the Chief), and my corvette is the CZ/CNB/RES camper and wing assassination obliterator.

If I did build a Krait, there is nothing it could do that I couldn't do with my Python or Chieftain just as well or better, and without an xp stealing liabilty of an SLF pilot (which is needed to be optimal in the Krait).

Hm, maybe comparing it directly to the Python isn't that fair. It's just that all the other differences between both ships seem more slight, and not as pronounced as in the case of the distributor.

Different ships have different run offs for their boost.

At least some ships seem to me to be able to keep that boost speed for longer
Okay, didn't test that. Cheers.

I agree, I definitely think you've found something that wasn't intended.

edit: unless, as above, some other mitigating factor is found, but given the issue in pvp with permaboost, I'm still going ot say 'not intended'.

Python is still an undersized ship with an oversized cargohold allowing it to do the highest volume trading out of the smallest outposts.

Anytime Python cargo capability has been brought up when compared to Clipper and T7 which can NOT land at outposts (small/medium pads) the Python crowd has justified this by the price of the Python.

So there you have it.

When comparing Python to Krait the same argument applies.

Python costs more because it has the ability to deliver the highest volume trading without the need for a large pad.

You are paying for the extra cargo volume, which is the exact argument used when comparing it to Clipper and T7 when discussing trading ships and their ability to make use of outposts.

So you can always withdraw the extra cost of Python as the argument why it should be allowed to do trading at outposts when Clipper and T7 can't, and thus allow those ships to use outposts (optionally remove Python ability to use those outposts and reduce Python overall cost).

So Krait v Python?

You are paying for the ability to do a volume of trading in locations no other ship can reach the same volume.

Donezo.

Yes, I admit it has the edge over the Krait in regards to cargo hauling.

When I 1st got the krait I thought "great, this is a ship that can do everything! It will be my main mission running ship" and it could do anything but you had to change the optional internals each time and after a bit I went back to the python and kept the krait set up GP for small cargo/assassination missions only

Why would you think that?
The ships are different. If I took the engine out of my sports car and dropped it into a large van the fuel consumption would go through the roof.

Yes, but the same engine with the same turbo and the same boost controller would not develop more or less boost just cos it was in a van.

Besides, the Krait hull is only 10% lighter than the Python ;)

10% is a lot if you're on or near the limit of the power/weight ratio of an engine. It's amazing how much 10% weight difference makes to the performance of a 400cc pro-kart in British karting (18kg, 180kg min race limit)...same would apply to a horse racing jockey. 10% is a huge number.
...and no, I would need more, much more, boost on a heavier car to achieve the same acceleration and speed. More boost equals more fuel gobbled.

The Krait is my absolute favorite ship, so I'm definetely not for a Krait nerf, but let's be honest... the Krait's boost power consumption is exceptionally low... it was one of the first things I noticed when I tried the ship for the first time. I don't know any other ship capable of boosting indefinetely with just 2 pips to ENG.

I still can't quite work this all out. Why is it when anything new is added, it is immediately compared against everything else in the game. Sides are formed, battlelines prepped, arguments formulated for both sides. Is it some sub-conscious need to justify the new toy or not?
