KWS - Does it realy help??

The downside of the KWS scanner is of course the large energy use of it, even when it's not in use. ie: You're not scanning with it, and it's probably not even in the current/active firegroup, yet there it is preventing you from using the weapons/equipment you'd prefer to be using.

It's not as if you can move it down in priority either to overcome this nonsense!

Not nonsense at all, makes perfect sense. It's a power hungry module - needs to be powered up to be available whether in use or not.

I've been using my viper to hunt for the last few weeks. I can easily make 1mil in an hour, which is more than enough for me. This is without a kws. I'm not saying that you couldn't make more with one, but for me, I'd rather divert the power toward more battle specific areas.

To give you an example the last trip out I had was pretty meagre (and I was too lazy to shop around for another RES or nav Beacon) so I netted 130K in Alliance. using the KWS meant that I picked up another 80K in Federation.

Not sure it works in a CZ?? The combat bond is a fixed amount for each type of ship so bounties don't show at all.

It works, but the only targets worth scanning are other commanders. The npc ships are all systems defence force - which means they don´t go around the galaxy on a killing spree and gain mighty bounties.

You can achieve the exact behaviour I'm on about, but that requires the bizarre mechanic of ducking into the module screen and manually turning the thing on/off? In a thousand years time, they can't automate that? ie: While I'm not using/firing it... it's - shock horror - turned off? :)

This is what led to my suggestion that you can set devices (weapons) to be not just on or off, but set to "A" (auto) such that if they're not in the current fire group, they're powered down. As such you could set you KWS to "A", put it in a firegroup, and then when you flick off that fire group, it's powered down automatically - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=113138

I'm just really surprised that you can progress to a Vulture and still be completely ignorant about the advantages or disadvantages of a KWS.... how do u ou do that ?

Did you get someone else to play your account for you.....

To add to all the other comments - I went to a Vulture as Mostly Harmless with 2 kills to my name to LEARN how to fight

I had about 600 to 800 k for alliance and federation while doing some bounty hunting in empire space with KWS.

Sadly i boosted my vulture in a rock i did not see.

Bountyhunting in RES sites when they are behind a gas giant and roids are hard to make out is a bad combo. :D

I did exactly the same! My first ingame death! I had about 3-4mCR in unclaimed bounties I recon! Grrrr :)

I just wish the KWS worked automatically on targeted ships like the surface scanner does on system bodies. It could be powered down if not required or it could be toggled on & off with a new key binding. I play on a 360 controller and holding down the secondary firegroup trigger while trying to fly the ship (especially slowing it down) is a real pain. Lift your finger for a moment and you have to start all over again. :(

To be honest the vulture only cost me 4.9 million and so it was not a massive amount of money to have to spend, if i had paid for a clipper i might ask myself your question, but its only 4.9 million, not that much money. (for a combat ship)

Bit harsh there - trading has no need for these.

I have not done any real trading, my most money i have made in total for trading is 300k, all my money i have made is through bounties.
