Landable fighters

My exploration Anaconda has a fighter bay and I often use the SLF to look for Bio and Geo signs on a planet. The fighter is equipped with a scanner, which is very useful, but I think it would be even better if the SLF was able to land so we could disembark to take Bio samples. They are often found in rough terrain where it can be difficult to find a landing spot for a big ship. Being able to get out of the fighter would solve that. Effectively I would like to use the fighter as a scout ship.

The first stage in making that possible would be to make the SLF into an actual vehicle rather than a drone/RPV.
Until we can actually get in them there is no point in their being able to land.

You aren't actually on the fighter, the fighter is remotely controlled, so you can't disembark unfortunately, this is what saves you and your valuable crew members from dying whenever your fighter is destroyed in combat.

I like the op's suggestion, i agree with the above statements from posters above me. Why I wanted to chime in here is to state that when i'm in my fighter and i use the free camera my Cmdr is sitting in the pilots seat, even though it is a telepresence SLF.

Maybe a new type of hangar could be introduced for exploration tasks and leave the host ship in orbit. I do get why the combat fighter is a telepresence system, that would stink to loose your hired npc or friend controlled SLF in combat, and vice versa to get burned up yourself and have to have the npc/friend fly back to port and pick you up, if they didnt get burned up as well. It's kinda a complex feature to make fun without a punishing side effect.

I'd forgotten that, thanks.

Probably, I would better keep silence that Scanner itself is actually a hand-held device thus not much of technical problem to have it mounted on SRV or SLF or Ship itself. But we have to disembark and hold it in our rock-steady hands for ...immersions? ...balance? ...Exobio payout already higher then most?

my fighter is cannonfodder only fun to have only, may take the heat off me for a few seconds, dont use for anything else, why do you want to fly it like ship beyond me,treat it for what it is and move on,take a wingman with you .must do a better job.

If we had large ships which could hold smaller ships that could land then I wouldn't need to have an FC to do it.

I really wanted a real ship for that, but the current FC doesn't feel like one to me.

Yeah, it would indeed be nice to have a dedicated exploration small ship like shuttle that you could carry on ships like a Conda that could be completely independant of the big ship, much like when you dismiss your ship when in the SRV. I tried using a SLF as a surface explorer when they first came out, but the code was still new and my test ship, a Beluga Liner, kept trying to fly through the ground whenever I went down into a canyon, that was a fun time lol!

Before telepresence didn't we had these fighters about in SC? The cockpit is still 'real'.

Yes, however the alternative is get on foot and then reach it, which alone, naturally creates that eerie experience of .. what is in front of me, what is behind me, is this planet safe feeling ... which not getting to experience the EVA will not really be felt.
So there are positives and negatives of developing the entirety of the game with comfort only on ships. Dividing player base is the cryptonite of game design. Never do that.

Having a landable fighter is a great idea and can be very fun, the whole telepresence issue can be made optional to us, we choose how to use it.

Another option could be to allow us to land our ships with our fighter deployed, if the whole telepresence is that big of a deal, then fine we don't land the fighter, but then allow us use it from the SRV then.

The point is to add more ways to have fun with it.

Yeah, hover ship, get in fighter, ship dismissed to orbit.
Do your stuff, recall ship, ship comes to hover (just like when recalling from SRV / on foot, it just doesn't land), enter ship.
