Latest CG, the clearest example of P2W in ED to date?

. Others will as they are interested, will I have 'lost' by not buying it?
that would depend if there was a CG with some unicorn gear as a reward that you could just have managed to get to earn it but instead miss out because the paid for mining ship is 60% better at mining than anything earnable in game.
The mental gymnastics to argue against it being P2W boggles me.
is it game breaking? No!.... is it obnoxious ? not in my opinion but it literally fits the definition just as it would if you could buy golden ammo which gave 30% more damage than any ammo gettable in-game if it was a combat CG with unique rewards.

I only read the first two pages but the amount of literal gymnastics some folks are performing to deny this is a p2w situation is hilarious.

It's very simple, nothing complicated about it. This is multiplayer game in which a competition is being held to haul stuff, and the largest hauler is only available to those that either have saved arx for over a year or have purchased them with cash. Even if the only reward was seeing your name in the top 10 list, that's enough for this to be firmly in the p2w category.

except "saved arx for over a year" isn't paying.
Unless you mean by buying the game?

I totally believe you.
So do I, funny, innit?
We'll see about that. Your track record with the PC boycott doesn't do you any favors 😁
I don't do mining, not even when the egg was paying silly credits

Would not make the slightest difference.
I'm not a miner, I have no use for a dedicated miner, unicorn module or not.

And I find the same for those who insist it is...

I look forward to 'winning' the current CG as I bought a PC II - even though I'll make a single unit delivery in my Corsair...

I've been saying this for months now. For some reason people are in complete denial.
I can't wait for FDEV to release an even BIGGER cargo ship and a better combat ship than what we already have.

so because something does not affect you personally then the fact that it may affect others is irrelevant? that is an odd take imo.

it's fine to say it doesn't affect you or that it does not alter your enjoyment or that it is a fair compromise for FD to make. (indeed that is kind of where I stand at the moment)

but to claim it (P2W) does not exist in the game because it is not affecting your game ?

It doesn't, and it doesn't affect my game.

It is a great concept, I'll give you that - someone can have something temporarily that they find fun and those who don't have it are total losers...
When FD start releasing assets in line with Scam Citizen, that can only be bought with cash, and may, or may not, appear in the game as a useable asset, then I will still laugh at the P2W concept, and laugh louder at the folk who couldn't resist buying such.

My not accepting that P2W in ED is a valid concept doesn't affect anyone else directly, so why get bothered by it?

How do you "win" a sandbox?

No player denies things to other people do they? Top 75% is easy even without a Panther.

25% of participants are being denied things by the other 75%.

Some of the people who're in the top 75% will be there because purchasing early access to a PC2 allowed them to deliver more than they'd otherwise have been able to. 🤷‍♂️

As has been said numerous times, people might not think it's a big problem (I don't) but it's silly to deny that it is likely to happen.

"With a cargo cutter I did four runs in four days and am in top 75%" said anyone who did the maths.

Even if you have to do 8 runs in a week, not a problem!

As I said a few days ago, it'll be interesting to see how this CG turns out.

I've had a couple of sessions this weekend.
Spent the first one loading up my FC with 22k tonnes of stuff.
2nd session I started delivering to Minerva.
Took 3000t to get into the 75% and 7000t to get into the 50%.
Still got around 15kt of stuff in my FC which I'll offload gradually and then, perhaps, go and fill up my FC again at some point.

Judging from the system chat, there's a lot of people who're delivering big quantities (>20kt), and they're all flying PC2s.

I wouldn't be surprised if the threshold for top 75% does end up being a bit higher than the usual half-dozen delivieries.
