Yes... Yes...YES!!!!!!!!!Hey Piglet,
At the moment we're focusing on some of the big hitter feedback regarding PowerPlay that have been circulating for a while, for example, the idea of 'Open-only' PowerPlay. We're weighing up the pros and cons of both, as well as the technical aspect, and once we have a decision we'll feed that back, but I can't put a timescale on that considering a lot of focus is on Odyssey at the moment. Once we have a handle on the bigger things, I think it would be a good idea to have a focused feedback thread.
Nope it was not a we'll think about it, either way however..... That second bit tho,'will' is a bit strong. Most I recall is 'we'll' think about it'. Some people do seem intent on being upset about stuff said years ago ....
I still don't understand how, years later, we're launching space legs (poorly) and Powerplay is still in the dark ages of development.Yes... Yes...YES!!!!!!!!!
Me, my entire squadron, litterally the leadership of the majority of the people behind the powers NEED this. I personally know if given the choice between FINALLY getting OOPP or ship interiors, I would pick OOPP without hesitation. We can finally have a means to shoot down fifth column pilots and bots before they cripple any more of the powers, we can have actual meaningful PVP besides Ganking and arranged fights, and give Powerplay its own unique flavor and Niche. And I am not even a PvPer! I WANT PP systems and instances to be more crowded, to put me more at risk of hostile players shooting me down or noticing what sneaky things we're up to; because everyone agrees the best moments in the PP community comes from encountering enemy commanders, like the heavily contested battles for the Mbambiva bubble. We I already love PP in its half developed state, but with this, it will be PERFECT!!! THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING OUR PLEAS FOR OOPP!!!!

That is beautiful. I've always envied AX because that's where PvE as a challenge resides. PP NPCs simply don't respond adequately. Big merit counts should bring an increasing challenge. To me it has: solo (i.e. the PvE layer) provides no real pushback for solo players, meaning each week a power can be fortified the same way down to the minute. In my PvE suggestion link I break all of those down, so its not impossible to make NPCs hard enough, its how much FD are willing to do. NPCs have to be able to make fortification and general travel hard- rival territory should count for something and NPCs currently just don't do enough to exemplify that.
Powerplay regardless of mode should be a challenge, because its overcoming obstacles to help the cause that should make pledging worth it and rewarding gameplay wise. But this (for me at least) never happens in solo- my time in that mode back at the start was grindy because very little actually happened minute to minute. I could guess when and where I'd be attacked and stuff became routine. Open breaks all that, because players have full engineering, they know no rules, and they know where you will be heading. If NP[Cs can replicate that, then thats a great start.
Its the deficiencies of NPCs outside of combat areas and navs that are one of my issues, if not the issue for me. Its here where Powerplay should come alive, where power territories should mean sweating bullets or breathing a sigh of relief. NPCs should be agressive, raiding in large wings, making life difficult but PP NPCs are a running joke.
You can invert it too- make PG and Open easier in some ways to solo- this proposal is an earlier suggestion I made (and formed the basis for the Pve Solo one)
'Inverted' NPC Driven Powerplay where teamplay means survival
A random thought I wanted to externalise before I forget it. Problem: in Powerplay you have two 'phases' of play- merit earning in PvE zones and merit dropping (hauling, sniping etc). In the latter you do not have effective opposition, or opposition that reacts to your efforts. This idea might...forums.frontier.co.uk
In short, it becomes an almost survival based mode the more you do.
Dear Mr. Hat. I get the thinly veiled Hazzing comedy routine you employ to astroturf and derail any negative threads but you must like the game right? or is your plan to be the last one left in ED with all the Stuffz.
It is hardly derailing and turfing over your point really is it? Especially as I'm in agreement which you can glean from above. And of course I like the game, else I'd be a bit of a freak here for the fun of it, even though it is the interwebz. You have given me a good idea for a masterplan though - being the only villain left wiv all da stuphs!
So while I probably look like a royal tool to those unfamiliar with this forum, you have known me long enough to know where I stand buddy, really. And sometimes when things suck, the best you can do is to laugh, and at the end of the day that was all I ever try to do with some threads here.
You can't differentiate cheating (in this instance) from just everyone's normal networking issues with ipv4 and NAT. It's even less "cheaty" looking than relogging, which Fdev has all but made a defacto way to play the game.
you already have players using a bunch of free accounts to massively effect the BGS thru mission stacking that while simultaneously netting them hundreds of millions to billion+ credits per hour, also is just as effective at pushing the BGS - because they're both done the same way with the same activities.
There's absolutely nothing "cheaty" about that ...the weak gameplay is what allows someone to simultaneously operate multiple accounts effectively without even needing bots (though those can make it even easier).
Trying would be making PVE as competitive as general PVP would be. Especially when participating in optional activities such as power play.
That would be effective and worthwhile. Open-only has no hope at all of levelling the playing field the way you imagine.

Whatever way you look at it, more views = good for stream, thumbs up / down = engagement on stream. Then maybe, just maybe they should just not watch the stream? That would seem to be a mature decision to make.
Interesting argument, but it ignores the fact that the most FUN I've had in this game are when I encountered the opposing forces and we litterally crossed swords instead of trying to make our numbers bigger than the faceless ghosts who don't join us in open. Those moments are so magical me and players of rival powers have fondly reminised over those moments from the Battle of Mbambiva, like friends telling stories around a plesantly crackling summer campfireSuper waste of time.
unless PP is re-imagined as a kind of CQC activity requiring converting to that game whenever you want to do some "PP".
the existing game's networking stack makes open only just a stupid concept that anyone who cares can circumvent. And you'll make a lot of people care by having it be "only".
Open only doesn't change the rules of shooting around stations. Good luck trying to catch people in the 30 seconds it takes to travel from a carrier to a station (even if they decide not to block your p2p connection)
On top of not having any way to stop people from BGS manipulation that also impacts PP but isn't directly PP - so wouldn't fall under the new mechanism at all.
You'd have spent a lot of effort to stop 5th col efforts and failed completely.
I guess completely failing at the intended gameplay by ignoring how players will actually behave is keeping in spirit with Elite. So Perfect!
This led to this idea, which melds that with more ideas:That is beautiful. I've always envied AX because that's where PvE as a challenge resides. PP NPCs simply don't respond adequately. Big merit counts should bring an increasing challenge.
And I agree- it just depends on how much FD are willing to change PvE wise. But like I said, if the majority have the full fat experience then thats an effective use of open in my book. Solo guys get missions that generate cargo, open players move it- in short Open and the possibility of meeting people augments the weak PvE present in that phase of the game. The tonal shift comes from most players knowing they might actually get someone who can actually rip them apart, and that in certain cases they need to find people UMing or work in a 'hot' mega UM system. Is it perfect? No- no answer is perfect here, its just making the most of what FD choose to do. If its the same scope as Sandros proposed changes thats not a lot....on paper in that proposal the only 'new' gameplay is Open.
Free accounts in Powerplay are used for votes, and PG turretboats.
In the end its not really about levelling, its making opponents that can operate at the scales Powerplay demands. NPC persistence is shonky at best, they can't chase you across several systems or lay traps like players can. You can possibly fake it, I've made attempts to outline such systems, but in the end players provide (on paper at least) that unpredictability.
This makes me very happy. At this rate powerplay has been the same since it launched while basically everything else got an overhaul. We may not be a lot of people but we're damn dedicated to the game mode. People stay for years just because of the community.Hey Piglet,

They are kind of like Elite's version of boss battles. That is beautiful. I've always envied AX because that's where PvE as a challenge resides. PP NPCs simply don't respond adequately. Big merit counts should bring an increasing challenge.
Even if it does happen, the people who do care about fun actually have more fun from all the crazy fights, added danger, and more opportunities for teamwork.we all know players are scary vs current npcs. But open only isn't going to fix that. It just means I, as a player who doesn't care about playing fair, just playing effective, will now block p2p connections while being in open rather than just jumping on solo/private.
a bunch of work for you to implement open-only
10 seconds for me to make it all useless.
Even if it does happen, either no harm is done from where we already were, or the people who do care about fun actually have more fun from all the crazy fights, added danger, and more opportunities for teamwork.
But will everyone be doing that? The other is if others need to find you- if they do then limiting yourself is not a good idea.we all know players are scary vs current npcs. But open only isn't going to fix that.
