Community Event / Creation LAVE RADIO - A podcast about Elite Dangerous

Nice, I like it. Keep up the good work :)

Just wanted to say a big welcome aboard to Ashley and Shan! Haven't said so for a while but I still look forward every week to the iTunes download of this show that turns my next two or three commuter journey's from drudge into an absolute joy. Thank you one and all!

Thanks folks, not that we need external validation it's appreciated!!! Hope that you all have a great Christmas and New Year and we'll be back in 3304 with even more Elite Dangerous (and maybe even other!) content (if we actually get round to it, maybe even a Retro Lave; Ha!!!)

Star Wars spoiler warning

I don't know what these guys were going to say but I heard the phrase "I'm not going to give away any spoilers but..." They were discussing the movie. I won't get to see it until I'm a little less busy. I may edit this warning once I've seen the movie and listened to what they said.

OK - I'm seeing it on Saturday and I don't want to know ANYTHING beforehand. Should I not listen to this episode?

Correct do NOT listen to this episode if avoiding spoilers!

I've been avoiding trailers and spoilers about the Star Wars movie, and very early into the Lave Radio podcast one of them says "well this isn't really a spoiler..." and then gives away a plot point which no, I did not know. Thanks guys... Yes that was a spoiler!

Spoiler plot mentioned, do not click if avoiding all spoilers:
Princess Leia dies.
I then skipped forwards half an hour until they were definitely talking about Elite again.

I don't suppose we could get a timestamp for where the spoiler actually is could we? I'd like to listen to this weeks show, just want to know when to fast forward and how far.

Skip to 27 minutes, it seems safe there, but i'm still listening right now, so who knows if they drop another clanger in 5mins...

EDIT: I've given up, about the 1 hour mark I hear "spoiler..." again, skip ahead, hear "star wars"... Maybe later.

All I said was that Star Wars Died for me that night and I can't tell people why because *PLOT*.

I went out of my way not to drop any spoilers at all!

Although, I thought everyone knew the thing about the 7ft Ewok.

Hey guys - just to let you know I decided to risk it and listened to the episode with my finger on the pause button. Any time there was a hint of Star Wars related talk I just fast forwarded 5 or 6 minutes. I seemed to have made it through without hearing anything I didn't want to.

Anyway, first of all ...

One hundred and EIGHTY!!!!!!!!!!

gz!

Another fantastic year of Lave Radio, thanks everyone. See you in 3304 and already looking forward to Lavecon (I'm going to add a couple of suggestions for events I'd be happy to run over on the facebook page).

Nice going guys ... looks like I can't listen to this until next week. [sour]

Looks like I owe you guys an apology. I'm re-listening to this now I've seen the film (which I absolutely loved by the way) and, although you did spend a while talking in general terms about the film, you were indeed careful to avoid spoilers amd I haven't heard anything (yet) that I would have minded hearing before I saw the film. At the time of course I just couldn't take the chance of hearing even a tiny shred of spoiler.

Happy 3304 everyone!

It may seem a harsh judgement on my part, but I'm leaving the spoiler warning in place. My own feeling is that they gave too much information away even though they were making a conciousness effort to avoid doing so.

But then I am also the sort of person who tries to avoid trailers for movies because they give away too much.

Re: repair stations ... sympathetic with Aegis? sympathetic with INRA? Truthfully I'd be astonished if anyone gives a crap either way (soz, posting after pub so being blunt). It's all a question of cause and effect (and gameplay). I look at a CG and I think ... hmm, some fun gameplay and if I can get into the top N% then I will earn N million ... let's do it. I look at the repair stations and I think ... hmmm, they're not as exciting as when they were hot and on fire and I get ... how much? ... and I can make 0.0001% difference ... and I'm incovenienced by these 6 reduced service stations exactly how much? (hint: as near as dammit 0%) when there are HUNDREDS more within 1 or 2 jumps of them ... why on earth would I bother? I mean, I get roleplay to an extent but ... seriously? ... seriously, why on earth would I waste my valuable few hours in-game pretending like repairing these stations is worth a damn when there are a gazillion more rewarding things I could be doing?

I 100% guarantee (or will else agree to any non-life threatening Lavecon forfeit) that these repair figures wil NEVER be met without FD intervening and/or changing the rules.

It will be interesting to see if anyone gives a damn now that Obsidian Orbital has been hit.

I was just reflecting a lot of what I've seen on the forums and reddit who think that AEGIS = INRA and therefore won't help any repair effort of the AEGIS Stations and yep, I agree that the repair requirements seem too high (do you suspect too high on purpose?)

It seems I must have been the only person taking cargo into Titan's Daughter (Because it's a pretty location) but I will admit it's more for RP than for anything else.

Halfway thru the podcast at the moment. I've thought of a great way for psykokow to see his Thargoids, but it will now have to wait until next year.

The Thargoids stopped their attack at Christmas, so they obviously have respect for those holidays. What we do is we broadcast "Silent Night" both in English and German around the Pleiades next Christmas. We then arrange a football match with those insectoids at the nearest deep-trenched moon.

...just remember to bring a nuclear football <grin>

On the subject of engineering "1 through 5", I'm pretty sure Shan is right and yes, on the face of it, it does indeed appear to suck the sweat off a dead dog's balls. You over complicated your examples tho. Imagine just taking one ship with 2 unengineered multi-canons to an engineer. You engineer the first one, working through each of the levels until you unlock 5 and apply it. Now you pick the 2nd multi-canon. Now you might think, since you've unlocked level 5, you can just apply level 5 rolls straight onto that 2nd canon. WRONG! You will have go to through all 5 levels again on the 2nd canon.

afaik ... we'll see for sure in a few hours time I guess.
