Let's play: What I saw, What I'll see! 👀🫎

Just for fun!

Everyone answer the following questions:
  1. Most exciting animal you saw in the wild?
  2. Most exciting animal you saw in zoos?
  3. Animal you most want to see in the game?
  4. Animal you want to see in a zoo?animal you want to see in the wild?
  5. Where could you go to see the animals from the previous question?
Questions 4&5 require a realistic answer.

The idea: in a year or so we could revive this thread, and see which people got their wishes ingame and in real life, and also see if it topped their previous best animals encounters.

1: An American Bison I saw in Yellowstone. They're truly massive!
2: A Polar Bear at the Point Defiance Zoo, watching it swim underwater was mesmerizing.
3: The Secretary Bird.
4: In a zoo, I have yet to see a Fossa. In the wild, I'd love to see Manatees.
5: I've been to the Central Florida Zoo, which has a Fossa, but I couldn't see it the last time I went. As for Manatees, I've heard there are some kayaking and boating places around where I live where they can be.

1. The most exciting and touching animal encounter i had in the wild was with southern right whales when i went whale watching in Puerto Madryn when i was a teenager, an experience i want to repeat sometime and get a sight of orcas this time as well if possible. A close second were the andean condors. They are a fairly common sight in the Andes and Patagonia region, soaring high up in the skies, but in one of my latest trips (before the pandemic) i got to see a couple more closely and they were so majestic.
2. Okapi. I know it sounds weird (or not very exciting) but i was 10 and obssesed with okapis at the time. I went to Animal Kingdom with my family and i was so excited when i got to see one.
3. Uff... tons, but i guess my top want at the moment is the secretary bird.
4. This one is hard, because to keep it realistic i would have to choose a species that is in a zoo relatively near me (which is not that easy, since there aren't many good zoos in my country). I've always wanted to go to Temaiken Biopark, so i guess i'll say the jaguar (my favorite big cat) and i know they have maned wolves now as well so that's a close second (since i've seen jaguars in other zoos before but never the maned wolf). BUT if i'm being honest, the animal i really want to see in a zoo is the red panda, but there are none here i believe, so i'll have to travel abroad for that lol. Second part of the question is also kind of hard. I'm supposedly travelling to Peru and visiting the Amazon later this year, so i guess the animal i'm most excited to see there is the amazon river dolphin (but really anything in the wild when i'm there specially jaguars, tapirs, river otters or harpy eagles).
5. I guess i answered that question already in the previous one lol

  1. My reflection - it was pretty wild
  2. Zoois keeperus
  3. Bruce the pacman frog
  4. In a zoo, a blue bull. In the wild, a money wearing red shoes
  5. Dora the Explorer for both

Ok ok, it was just a joke. Here's the real thing:

  1. Bobcat - out in the farm I've seen this guy 3 times. The first was on a hay bale, just sitting there. The 2nd was at night; he ran in front of the truck and all but 2 of us missed him. The 3rd was actually in our yard, at night, watching us pull up. Then he scampered off into the woods. 3.5th time was actually him growling, maybe at us, when we were walking on the road
  2. Giant otter - I've seen the giant otters many times at the zoo and they are so much fun. Constantly making sound, swimming. One time they were wrestling in the water
  3. Not much, to be honest. I guess maybe the spider monkey
  4. 🫴🏼
    • Giant panda
    • Gray fox
  5. 🫴🏼
    • Smithsonian Zoo, I believe, has them, so I'd have to take a trip to north US for that
    • They are supposedly common out in the farm, but I've yet to see one. I may have to travel to neighboring Tyler for that

1. An absolutely enormous wels catfish i saw in a lake when me and my family were camping there in summer. It was about 2,5 meters long and terryfied me. Self explanatory that 10 year old me never swam there again when i knew there where fish twice my size in there :D

2. A komodo dragon i saw as a kid. Not necessarily the most exciting in that sense, but it kickstartet my love for reptiles which led me to get into keeping reptiles as pets eventually.
So its definitly my most memorable and influencing zoo experience. And i will be forever gratefull to that one random monitor :)

3. Uh this is hard, especially since it changes pretty regulary. At this moment its probably the hamadryas baboon

4. In a zoo: Platypus. They are so fascinating, unique and hecking adorable. Sadly there are non in europe
In the wild: Whaleshark. These animals are just so majestic and swimming with whalesharks is one of my biggest dreams.

5. Australia is probaly the safest bet for both

For a more affordable amazon experience, I highly reccomend crossing to Bolivia and going to Rurrenabaque, then returning to Cusco.

Amazon in Peru is crazy expensive l, although still cool. Got to see river dolphins in both countries.

Either way have fun, the amazon is amazing! I'm going again next week in Colombia actually.

That's nice advice. We'll check out our options then.

And you are trully a lucky guy. All that traveling.

Thanks! Truth is it took me like 5 years of saving. Not that I regret it but it involved tons of planning and I'll have to work for it when I get back.

1: Probably a sturgeon and giant catfish, I have a catfish fobia now
2: Maned Wolf, sooo sad it left my zoo....
3: Secretary Bird and Crested Porcupine (can’t choose, impossible for mods to create versions of these animals that I would like, They already made an awesome markhor and shoebill though)
4:
Zoo: Saiga, Leopard Seal and Shoebill
Wild: Nothing, leave animals be
5: Dunno

These are hard! Sorry for giving multiple answers for most of these, but it's difficult to single out any one encounter or species as my favourite.

1. Could go for lots of different options here. In terms of pure awe, probably saltwater crocodiles; they're not hard to come by once you're within their range (which means you have to be wary around all waterbodies), but when you get up close to a big male you realise what impressive animals they really are. In terms of weirdness, platypus; I managed to spot 6 of them in a period of half an hour in north Queensland.

Other options could be glimpse of a chuditch/western quoll in the Flinders Ranges last year, chancing upon a western pygmy possum at Innes National Park a few years back, or a king brown snake up near my grandparent's place recently. In regards to sheer rarity, the pygmy bluetongue skinks I've been working with as of late (they were thought extinct until the 90s and even today very few people are lucky enough to see them in the wild) or the vagrant Subantarctic fur seal I stumbled upon on Kangaroo Island in 2021 would probably take the cake. A lot of the animals I see in the wild regularly though, like koalas, kangaroos, emus, echidnas and so forth are pretty exciting if I think about them from an outside perspective though.

2. Probably numbats, mala and thorny devils at the Alice Springs Desert Park (and Alice Springs Reptile Park for the latter), just in regards to being animals that are very unique and distinctive but extremely rare in zoos. Outside of that, hard to say!

3. Pretty obvious answer, Tasmanian devil.

4. Probably the animals I want to see most in zoos are unique and interesting species not kept in Australia, like North Sulawesi babirusa, fossa, kowari, North Island brown kiwi, and so forth. In the wild, my biggest goals at the moment are carpet python, perentie and spotted-tailed quoll.

5. Obviously for the zoo species I'll have to visit international zoos - I can picture myself visiting New Zealand within the foreseeable future so the kiwi shouldn't be hard to come by, but the other species I'd have to see further afield, such as in Singapore or Europe. Carpet pythons are pretty rare in my wider area but I'm just hoping to chance upon one at some point, especially with some targeted searching up around Mt Remarkable. With the other two species, I'm already planning trips into their native range for later this year - first slowly travelling up the coast of New South Wales this winter looking for mammals (with the quoll as the biggest target), and then visiting central Australia in spring to do some herping (with perentie as a likely prospect). These plans aren't set yet but hopefully they work out!

  1. Most exciting animal you saw in the wild? A= I think there are two moments that left me marked for life, the first was when I saw an American crocodile, It was only a few meters from me and my mother in a river, it was impressive how close we were to it, the second moment was when I saw a huge and gigantic flock of American flamingos my second favorite animals, seeing the sky totally pink because of the flamingos at sunset is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen and felt
  2. Most exciting animal you saw in zoos? A= Simitarra horned oryx, I was so excited to see them as my local zoo didn't have them a few years ago, sounds boring but for me it was amazing to see them and in a great mixed habitat
  3. Animal you most want to see in the game? A= Is difficult at this point, but I Will say the Dromedary Camel because Is so big and majestic IMO
  4. Animal you want to see in a zoo? animal you want to see in the wild? A= Definitely the Giant Panda, and in the wild I would say Jaguars because they are my favorite animal ever.
  5. Where could you go to see the animals from the previous question A= For the Giant Pandas, the Chapultepec Zoo, the principal zoo in Mexico and home of the last Not Chinese Panda of the world, and for the jaguar, they are local animals lol, so It would ve Easy to see one in a reserve near by me but I would be scary

Whats a not chinese Panda? :D

Whats a not chinese Panda? :D
All the actual pandas outside of china belongs to China, they are not from the Zoos who have one
But before this law, Mexico had a couple of pandas that had several babies and those pandas grew up and had babies but then they could not reproduce again, the pandas born in Mexico that currently there is only one left, the other died a year ago, they belong to Mexico and are not owned by panda

1. Bolivian Squirrel Monkey
2. Brazillian/Baird's Tapir (can't pick!)
3. Black Howler Monkey
4. Hippopotamus/African Elephant
5. San Diego Zoo/Sub-Saharan Africa 😂

* Most exciting animal you saw in the wild?
I once saw at least 20-30 white storks in a field. It was late August. It was really a breathtaking moment as they were circling over the field.

* Most exciting animal you saw in zoos?
Idk, The rarest was probably the Giant Panda in Berlin Zoo.
I had the best moment at a bird show with a Bald Eagle in Hannover Zoo, I had a little pee in my eyes.
My favorite animals so far are the Prairie Dogs in Hannover Zoo, they are always very busy and it's fun to watch them.

* Animal you most want to see in the game?
Walrus

* Animal you want to see in a zoo?animal you want to see in the wild?
Walrus
In the wild, idk maybe a Barnowl, would be a magic moment for me.

* Where could you go to see the animals from the previous question?
Walrusses are kept at Hagenbecks (Hamburg)
Idk :ROFLMAO:

Most exciting animal you saw in the wild:
- Cuban crocodile, considering their range is so small and they are Critically Endangered it's definitely the rarest species I have seen wild.

Most exciting animal you saw in a zoo:
- I've seen so many exciting species that it's very difficult to choose... Maybe the fact I've seen all 8 bear species? I'm not sure how much of an achievement that is. If not, North Island Brown Kiwi is pretty exciting.

Animal you most want to see in the game:
- Literally any flying bird at this point to be honest, I can't choose.

Animal you want to see in a zoo:
- Tasmanian devil probably, I haven't seen any carnivorous marsupials I don't think.

Animal you want to see in the wild:
- Blue whale is my pipe dream, I want to witness the largest animal ever to exist in person.

Where?:
  • Prague Zoo for Tasmanian devil, they also have Chinese Pangolin which is a close second. Just an amazing zoo I've been meaning to visit for ages.
  • Anywhere in the ocean for blue whale, I don't know where the hot spots are.
