News Let's talk about Gnosis and the Cone Sector

There isn't a viable QA department in the WORLD with 11,000 testers in it - in different countries, with randomised connection speeds, hardware etc. Both human side (which yes does include Cmdrs firing in area of the NFZ without any form of clearance from the station) and technical, exhibited equally understandable bugs, fixed in extreme short order. Good test.

True, but, and it's BIG BUT, the problems with Thargoids outside stations and commanders getting wanted status for fire upon them within the no-fire zone has happened before. Indeed, it's happened very time such an incident took place. So, it was a KNOWN ISSUE.

It was exacerbated by the new mechanic of being sent back to a detention centre if you die with a bounty or fine rather than the last place that you docked, in this case 1500Ly away. This was an unintended consequence.

This was the first time that a dockable ship had come under attack by craft which could disable other ships, so the issue of being blown up (and given fines for loitering and littering) on the docking pad was a new one but could have been foreseen if the system had been looked at holistically.

I'm guessing that the new QA head that Frontier are hiring will be looking at this sort of thing when (s)he takes up the post.

To say I am disappointed in this entire episode would be an understatement. [snip]

What this has shown is that I now have no faith in FD in relation to any Community or group events. Who is to say the next CG won't suddenly turn into a station exploding (I wouldn't discount any scenario now), with a few hundred Commanders destroyed - just so FD can introduce some new story element. I will just revert back to my former playing style of a Lone Commander doing my own thing, this way I won't be affected by any bright ideas from FD.

The one thing this 'Gnosis Incident' has done is given ample and long lasting ammunition to the Doom and Gloom boys, they will be feasting off of this for months, if not years to come and an example of FD's total lack of respect to it's player base.

Lastly, I might start looking for a new avatar …….

NOMNOMNOM - But I take no pleasure from it - complainers would starve, wither and die if FDev stopped doing things to feed us.

Delicious - prepped (or not) and served with FDev's special "kufc you" sauce.

“And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose"

Nice avatar - and FDev loses another white knight.

While I'm more than sympathetic to players having their chains yanked by developers, there are some ideas floating around in this thread that sorely need to be challenged.

[2 quotes snipped - don't display]

People who read those lines and nod their heads in agreement need to take a step back and look at the reality of the video game industry.

You're not employers, folks. You're not the boss.

You're volunteer laborers buying tools from the company store.

Thanks for the PM and I do get your sentiment - I've certainly been guilty of "working" in a game, but when I got sick of it, I left, and took my money with me.

From the posts I've read tonight so far since I stopped working - there's more than a few stating they are done with the game and /or FDev's fumbling about in the dark.

EVEN if Canonn were somehow complicit in the misjump situation, the event after that, and all the bugs is all on FDev, pure and simple.

So they can't stop paying a subscription that doesn't exist, it doesn't stop them from NOT BUYING the next paid expansion, or cosmetics, or FDev's other games. There are many gamers who will not buy EA's products regardless of good reviews, and FDev seems to have found a copy of thier playbook.

The event is fine, way more fun than just saying Nope! you can't go there. I'm at a stranded megaship that I worked to gather the matts for the CG back then and I care about, it's under attack and I get to defend it (although the early galnet article release and the no fire zone bug was bad, spoiled the surprise and kinda broke the immersion, but it was not a dealbreaker for me)

I feel that some people are disappointed cause they expected a different experience but the backlash you are getting for it is unjustified IMO

Don't let the downers bring you down and keep up the good work :)

For mine, the idea of such an attack on the Gnosis was always to be expected. The nature of the event isn't the issue. The early leak of the outcome ahead of the jump, and the bugs early on really screwed it.

But the big issue is the missed opportunity. A misjump of only 12 ly. Really? We couldn't think of something better? Frontier couldn't have foreseen that such a non-event would upset a large number of players who'd spent considerable time and in-game resources preparing for the potential this had, whether it actually got to the Cone Sector or not? The 12ly misjump is the problem in my eyes. Why wasn't it a misjump simply to some other otherwise unreachable (not permit locked) pocket of stars on the edge of the galaxy? Could have even been explained away as the Thargoids using their superior technology to send the ship further than its jump range would normally allow, to do so. Could have even still had a Thargoid attack in the mix. The AX players would have still gotten their fix. The explorers would have still gotten something out of it (especially if Frontier seeded some 'mysterious things' in the chosen location). And there would have been plenty of players on board for a localised mini-CG to get the Gnosis able to jump out again after a period of time. Simples.

But instead the thing barely jumped anywhere, became just a combat fest ruined initially by bugs, impacting in the process all those along for the ride not interested in combat (and Frontier knew these players were in the mix). And one that actually could have been implemented at any other megaship or station in the bubble as an alternative rather than impact non-combat oriented players in this manner.

The event was ok in concept, and I'm sure at least some of the 11,000 players on board enjoyed it. The implementation was horrible though given that we all knew, Frontier included, that the 11,000 players included a large number more interested in the opportunity the Gnosis event posed for exploration than just another combat-based event.

Never in my born days have I read so much unjustified whining by a bunch of self entitled spoiled brats. It was a brilliant plot and apart from cmdrs getting fined for opening fire in the no fire zone it was well executed. It was what many people on here have been crying out for, a fleet carrier with a huge fleet doing battle with the bugs after getting hyper indicted by them. So the plot turned out to be different to what you expected and didn't suit your particular agenda, tough, that's life and as for the whinny non combatant cmdrs the pilots federation warned you not to go.
As for all the venting at Fdev for admitting that you were never going to the Cone Sector, what the f--k is all that about. It was a plot twist. When an author writes a thriller he doesn't put in footnotes that give away the plot ahead of events, although in this case Fdev did with the Galnet News slip up but still you went. Grow up guys, if you're playing in somebody elses story learn to go with the flow, your are a participant in the story not the creator. Adversity does not build character it's how you deal with it that will define you. Now please excuse me I have VIP explorers to take the Top of the Universe, only 21 jumps to go, then the long haul home for a mere 43mil plus many times that in exploration data. Loads of first discoveries but only one earth like so far. Adapt to the narrative people, it's a big and stunning universe out there, go play.

"Plot twist" my backside - this "plot twist" of your is like finding out at the end of Terminator that Sarah Connor is the one who created Skynet; in other words total logic fail.

FDev never stated EVER that the jump would fail - and promoted it THEMSELVES as a JUMP TO CONE SECTOR with social media.

You're also forgetting the fines for littering, being sent to detention centre 1000 LY away, after being destroyed within seconds of pressing *launch* - the Gnosis IS NOT A FLEET CARRIER, but an EXPLORATION VESSEL with minimal armament, the fitting UI was locked out and a whole bunch of other stuff.

FDev changed the game rules only days before the jump, wasting untold player hours who had been prepping for it under the belief it was supposed to be an EXPLORATION EVENT.

But seeing as you seem to like plot twists and unexpected events - please do buy my tickets for my special "celebrity dinner" - I know lots of them and we'll have a great time, only £100 a head. Even Stephen Hawking will be there.

It's. A. Game.

Ok great. Thanks for the input. It is a game.

So; in that, you are expecting people to suddenly and completely understand every facet of your thinking in the infinite world of thinking, an infinite world of opinions and views, wit, humour, sarcasm, solipsism and sh*t posting.

Like ants, we communicate the intentions of the wider group through pheromones and we all toe the line with equal understanding.

Yes; in this statement, "Its. A. Game," it is absolutely clear to me, without explanation and with superior intuition and telepathy that I, and many others are absolutely wrong and invalid in every way and you, with your succinct and chiseled and honed point, have abashed me to the point of rescinding my entire worldview; for which I thank you.

Yes indeed, and one that far fewer people will be playing in future, if the tone of this thread is anything to go on.

Right, I believe I've succinctly made my point. what was yours, again?

So let's boycott and mash the accelerator on that demise? Yup, makes total sense.

Beautiful.

Best recruiting tool ever....

/sarcasm

All this did was convince me and 5 of my friends to go spend $50 each in the FD store...

Thanks for the inspiration!

It's all a PR game now. If you can't see the angles no more, you're in trouble, baby. /quote from Carlito's Way.

When we take intentions at face value; we get the gNo-sis.

Landing Pad

Please no, do you know how cancerous it would be to dock 11,000 players only in open within the span of even 72 hours?

Even in private group it can be a pain if someone forgets to enter the hanger after they land and you keep getting permission denied without even an explanation, took awhile to figure out that someone was camping on the pad, can only imagine what a Charlie Foxtrot it would be if it was open only. Switched to solo to avoid landing pad camper) admitted it is easy to forget to enter the hanger.
