Linux Port

For us, PC means Windows operating systems.

Whereas Mac and Linux are in their own naming categories.
Strange.

Windows Operating Systems ? Then it's WOS ? [weird]

In France, a PC, mean "Personal Computer". It's the machine itself.
You can install any OS you want, it's still a PC.
I have Windows7 + At least one linux distribution on (almost) all my PC.

Same with a Smartphone (you can install Android, iOS, Windows Phone, etc...) it's still a Smartphone.

You maybe should change your FAQ, and speak only about the OS, for clarification.

What I assumed, and I hate that. How are Mac and Linux somehow less of a computer? Linux is a kernal bridging software and hardware, and Mac is one of last remaining Unix based OS, forked from BSD long ago. They make up a one's personal computer, not just Windows.

My geek is showing, sorry.

The initial thread question is relevant but a good portion of the thread is off the topic of Planet Coaster...

Wasn't the first Personal Computer a Mac? But in the whole world the most of us including me says pc if we mean Windows. And for Apple system we say just iMac or macbook or Apple.

A lot of companies use "PC" for Windows.

Back in the day (1980 to be exact) the full term was "IBM Compatible PC", meaning computers built with IBM compatible hardware architecture, and (at that time) running MS DOS and later MS Windows as their OS. The term was eventually shortened to simply "PC", but it is generally considered that the term "PC" still refers to computers running Windows.

That's theory. But in real life...,
I dont know where you live, but in my country, the "real life and theory" is the same, a PC is a Personal Computer, and Windows/Linux/MacOS are OS.

I dont know about other country, but in France, on every PC game, in every shop, you can read "Game for Windows" and not "PC Game" if it's Windows only. (and you can find the OS logo on the back of the box)

And if it is written "PC Game" on a box, the seller will have to be prepared to answer the question "Is this game runs on Mac because it's not written ?" 150 times a day, I guarantee.

This is a "PC Dvd-rom for Mac"

Anyway, it's just a small mistake on the support website, they should change it. [happy]

Actually no it's not. Both Windows and Mac versions are available on the same disk.
Oh really ? I didnt know that the Mac version also contains the Windows version [weird]

Is the Windows version also contain the Mac version ?

"PC" has been used as a general term for a Windows based game since the 90's. It's only recently that publishers have started being more specific and outright stating "Windows" instead.
If someone else made the mistake in the past is not a sufficient reason to keep doing it. [happy]

Some dvd's may have both the Windows and Mac software on the same disc or in the same box.
But most places, PC is considered Windows.

Showing a different screenshot for the same game doesn't change the fact that the version you originally showed included installers for both versions.

PC DVD ROM = Windows

How much off topic has this gotten that you're trying to redefine the use of the word "PC" as it applies to gaming?

It was never a mistake - its just a legacy term....Like calling a movie a "film" (when movies are no longer shot using actual film).

Earlier PC turned "de facto" term for IBM compatible computer running Intel x86 cpu.. No matter the OS.. Even if there were other "Personal Computers" too, such as my oldie Commodore 64 has the text "Personal Computer" on a label on the machine itself. ;)

It seems that it has became even narrower term now, implying it is running Windows as OS. I still see PC as intel (as in originally architecture made by intel) "x86" machine. Linux is still PC for me. But I can't decide what becomes the norm.

And i said that i didnt know that the mac version also contains the windows version, and this is why I ask if the Windows version also contain the Mac version ? (but you did not respond)

So please, going out and breathe a little !
You seem irritated

PC DVD ROM = Windows
No. It's wrong !

- PC = Personal Computer
- Windows = Operating System
- PC DVD ROM = DVD "Read Only Memory" that you can put in your PC (to not be confused with DVD ROM for your DVD player, your console, etc.)

personal computer
noun 1. a compact computer that uses a microprocessor and is designed for individual use, as by a person in an office or at home or school, for such applications as word processing, data management, financial analysis, or computer games. Abbreviation: PC.

If you like it or not, it's still a mistake. No reason to be rude with me, it's not my fault, because i'm not the one that defines the acronyms, nor the one who wrote the definition of words in the dictionary.

Just deal with it.

@Angelis: I'm not going to waste any further time responding to your posts, you have this uncanny knack of turning everything into a semantic dispute. Perhaps stop looking at the definition of words in a dictionary and look at how the term has been used historically.

Yes. I think it's better. [big grin]

And btw, i never said that it's not an historically mistakes in some country. (thanks Microsoft) I'm totally agree with you on this point.

Anyway, i'm sure you can agree with me that NOW almost everyone are using "Windows", "Linux" or "Mac/MacOS", and not just "PC game" for a Windows Game because it's confusing (all this discussion is the proof, and this is why I insist)

PS : I just sent you a private message with a hug [happy]
