Live stream format change - Ed

Can I just point out the fact that the regular live streams have stopped and that last stream from Ed ended with this...#

Two weeks ago...

Hence the upcoming C&P changes.
We shall see. Honestly unless they actually do something to make High sec systems and Anarchies actually mean something then it's probably going to be a limp noodle imo.

Well said. Running away from gankers still leaves the gankers to interdict you again, and again.

Remove the problem by going into a Private Group and you got an uncle named Bob :)
Runing away into a Private group solves nothing for Ed or the game as a whole. Eventually those same stream gankers will follow him there as well while uncle Bob face palms.

- Address the problem of the entire game-world being essentially an Anarchy.
- Ban the repeat stream harassers.

I just want to throw in some support to say "welcome to the world of Open". This is the game Frontier have made, if they can't complete a live stream from it then, maybe, they should admit that something isn't right with the game?

Alternatively they could just admit that PvP'ers, especially the non-roleplaying ones, and PvE'ers will never get along, and go and launch the Open PvE mode that so many have been crying for since launch :) Gankers gonna gank and so on...

Not mutually exclusive. Block them, then go into Mobius.

That'll teach 'em! :)

Every player/streamer we lose to private/mobius makes Open a shadow of what it could be and what it was when the game was released.

We had 4-5 months of a golden period in Open play from the game launch. Pirates actually pirated. PvPers.... well killed each other rather than ganking. And Ed did some of his best streams in Open.

I have dream where the majority of players including streamers can enjoy Open and dont feel the need to go to private to enjoy this wonderful game.

The whole stream gameplay idea was horrible.

- He started far far away from the destination. And the ship had a horrible jumprange.
- Didn't know how to check, where he can get the commodities he will need.
- Once the players told him, he repeated the system name he chose from the propositions on the stream, giving everybody, who would like to stream snipe a dev more than enough time to relocate from all over the bubble.

1. Even if no one would attack him, it would be the most boring stream ever.
2. It would show there are no viable trading tools in the game.
3. If he would try to do it without the help of the players, using the map and not external tools, he would probably have to fly from station to station until he found them (they've changed how restocking works, so it's horrible close to CGs). Which again would be boring and off-putting - especially to players that don't know the game.

4. Even if there would be a very solid C&P system, people would sacrifice their ships to get a chance to shoot at a dev.

So yeah, maybe he shouldn't play while streaming at all.

Lets not forget the small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri. I remember when they were still small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.

I understand the sentiment. Until then .... private group :)

I understand what you're saying, OA. I truly do, but I don't think you're getting what I'm saying :)

This isn't just any streamer, this is a Frontier stream. It's marketing, and if Frontier are trying to market a game for which there are zero consequences for "Or just hunt other commanders", then the marketing should reflect the true state of the game, and the true state of the game is: consequence-free (in-game) "Or just hunt other commanders".

Frontier resorting to a private group for a livestream would be misleading.

Indeed. Frontier streams broadcast exactly what open is : consequence free galaxy wide anarchy, with packs of reavers raiding every public places ^^

Not the game FD want to show ? Then fix the game. Do not go private and push the reality of it under the carpet.

Thats not a fix. Many want the game DB described, where PvP can happen, but would be 'rare and meaningful' and not GankTown vs InvincibilityVillage.

You made your bed, you lie in it.

Of all the arguments to be found on this thread, this one just about sums it up quite nicely...the open environment and the mentality of some of those who play this way are quite literally merely doing what frontier gave them a choice to do. So unless they man up and hand out bans to those who break the rules in such ways, then they basically made their own bed...now they get to lie down in it and if they dont like it...they can change it whereas players cannot and feel forced out of open in order to play the game at all.

As a solo and PG player, I do find this scenario to be absolutely hilarious...I know thats wrong but Im still laughing anyway because open is, fer frontier, a self inflicted wound. And while normal open play might not be so bad fer Joe Public, it does at least shine a spotlight very clearly on what parts of the game are broken.

Moving livestreams into a PG is the same as admitting defeat fer frontier while staying in open causes potentially even more public relation shenanigans and dev stress at the inane behaviour of the few who routinely ruin the open experience fer all. Frontier hold the keys to the medicine cabinet and I fer one think its hilarious they get to taste their own medicine now and then.

Many have left open a long time ago because of it then complained to devs who dont appear to care because absolutely nothing has been done about it...in light of that, I find meself not caring too much about whether or not a dev gets fed up with it either...they playing a mess of their own making and making the game they would want to play...so surely this is the fruit of their labours if they dont take steps to change it...yes?

I agree that this would be the best. However given three years of failure on that front I have precisely zero hope of this being achieved, and would therefore like to see an Open PvE mode so that we didn't have to rely on Mobius to see a considerable amount of other commanders out in the galaxy.

That said I would be more than pleased to be proven wrong :)

What is this...fascination, with a certain sub-set of the usual Cmdr's, that Open is some great and glorious thing which is the apex of ED play? I really don't get it. I suspect reasons certain Cmdr's want this and I wish they would just spit it out instead the odd "good of the game" mantra some trot out. Amazed they can keep their composure while typing that ridiculous line.

It's just a marketing thing for ED. There might be a lot of people, who are afraid of the internets and multiplayer among the core player group of ED, which for a game is pretty old and isn't really the typical gamer, but most of the mainstream players out there, who would be potential customers, love truely MMO-like open games.

Considering FD have never fully tried to land crime and punishment with longer trend of consequences and 2.4 gives first dip into this I would not call it over yet.

So theory is this - we will have karma. It will be calculated from your actions within game - combat logging, player attacking, stream snipping - add change in karma will have consequences. See is as 'fame' if you will. It can be then added into game logic and having weighted response to basically everything.

We know system security will have better weapons and ships. Most likely heavily modified engineered ships will trigger alpha teams from police.

Long term idea is to make karma impact your rep in human space, all your minor faction reps aside. You will just face stronger pushback when being a jerk.

Yeah, what about that?

Ironically, we were told that we'd be getting informative "behind the scenes" streams with the developers this Fall. These streams we've been getting, these are not the streams we're looking for.
