Lugh Event a failure - Taking over systems doesnt work

A noble failure guys! Sounds like you helped iron out some more glitches.
.
Maybe FD could mint some special decals for the "Lugh uprising" and give them to those that participated. :)

I'm still in Lugh but havent managed to get on for a few nights due to "Amazon Fever" in the house.
I am certainly willing to have another go. I try to switch to Open while doing this so I can meet/greet my teammates.

I'm also still in Lugh, happy to keep going.

I'm installing Windows on my new gamer tonight, so I may even get Elite running on my new beast...

Or maybe the spacecraft painters can create a special "crimson" colour scheme for our craft? Good for recognition purposes?

Probably a news letter this evening. Will be interesting to see how the devs react in that with the "news" from Lugh.

The way I see it, for this sort of action to be effective the NPCs in Solo need to mirror the actions happening in open play. So players in solo who are not aligned with the Lugh rebels will be attacked by NPCs who are aligned, plus NPCs and solo players alike, who are trading with Lugh will be attacked by NPC rebels. Thus backing up what goes on in open play.

The revolution of Lugh appears to be over.

After doing progress for half a week, on the weekend, with the goal in sight, it all came to a screeching halt.

Here is what I learned:
Nothing

1. Triggering a big enough influence change to start an election or a civil war does not seem to implemented.
2. The influence system is neither documented nor is it in any way obvious what works and what doesnt.
- we dont know how trading works on influence
- we dont know to what extent missions change influence. We have seen so many little blue influence arrows in the last weeks, we could fill a small town with traffic signs. But we werent able to push the Crimson State Group above 50%.
- we have no idea whether or not bounty hunting or killing enemy faction's ships has any effect on influence
- we dont know whether influence is dependent on the stations (as in: you have to take over the biggest station because there are the most people). This does not seem to be the case.
- we dont know how and to what extent FD pulled the strings in the background, reducing the amount of influence gained from missions and other activities
- we dont know whether there were concerted efforts by players to stop the Crimson Revolution from happening. Talking to other players in Open appeared to show way more of CSG supporters than Federation supporters.

You can look at this thread for the results of the last 2 weeks. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=71699&page=54

So we dont know anything more about influence than 1.5 weeks ago. The background simulation does not appear to be fully working. We can move around the percentages a bit, and there is a response in the tone of the missions. But there isnt a trigger of election or civil war events. It appears that it all needs to be done by hand by the developers.

This is a very disappointing outcome. Nevertheless I'd like to thank all the people that were missioning like crazy over the last week. Personally, i cannot pretend anymore to know what to do and how to do it, when I dont.

If anyone has different insights about influencing systems and achieved results, I'd rellay like to hear them.

TL;DR: The background simulation doesnt work. Players cannot take over systems or trigger a civil war or election event as of now.

Communists been fighting for Eranin even before this event and they still continue to do so. Successfully I might add. And bunch of Commanders (including me) helping Alliance to push Feds and Independents back from Alioth too. For me Lugh event was an inspiration. I tried to get there and help but it was so far so I turned back once I heard about Alliance initiative.

All in all - don't get disappointed. You brought a lot of fun and showed good example to all of us. I hope Frontier will fix bugs in time but meanwhile events such as this can make this galaxy much brighter place. Good fun!

It was a concerted player effort. Under normal circumstances, especially as the launch crowd moves on and as players spread out, it'll take months to years for this kinda thing to happen.

Which I don't think is necessarily a good thing.

I am not worried. On the contrary, it means that the players can achieve real change with a significant but reasonable effort. It feels balanced to me.

Also, I gave Michael and Tinman rep for the way the communication went in this thread - giving informative hints but leaving a lot for the players to find out; and for the impressive time of day at which it took place.

This thread makes me sad. :S

I suppose it's better to know.

I really hope that this is just another unfinished bit as a result of the premature release date and that Frontier are working to not just fix such mechanics as they are discovered and get attention on the forums but to work to make it a genuinely living, breathing and dynamic galaxy with as many layers as possible.

If the worry is that due to the start locations the Federation territory will slowly but surely encroach on Alliance/Empire then just let it, there are ways to deal with this, not by fudging stats and game mechanics but by in game events:

- If there are three sides, truces can be formed if one side becomes way too dominant
- Alien races can provide outside influence which can affect the Fed/All/Emp dynamics
- In game plot related rewards to help retake lost territory

Hexen? Named after the game where you turn people into chickens???

This and hex editors. I quite enjoyed them when I was a kid :D

And by the way seems our Alliance effort started to finally work. We need to figure it all out again but seems Frontier are at it and guys report some progress again. Just keep trying, don't get few setbacks thwart your efforts completely.

Hey hold on a minute? Who said this was over?

I never made any such statement!

Flin might be throwing in the towel but I certainly am not! Did you always think this was going to be easy? Things don't go our way so we throw the toys out of the pram? Are we babies now all of a sudden? Pull yourselves together people!

What you are seeing here is a sympthom of all uprisings that fail as soon as they hit a bump in the road. The casual followers drop off.

This thing started well but as soon as the newsletter drew every tom and harry into Lugh they all came looking for 'Something' to be going on in the game. They hung around like flies and then started shooting. While they were there they started doing random missions. They could not care less about what we are doing here. They were just looking for something to do in a then empty game.

But do you know what? That stage will blow over but I am still here. I will not stop. Ask yourself what are you going to do in the game now? Are you going to wander off now and start doing missions for the Empire? for the Federation? After this?

Are we to suddenly now to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

I think not...

I want every person on this thread who is still willing to back me on this to PM me as soon as you read this post and declare their willingness to go on. All is not lost and we are not going down without a fight I can promise you that!

I am only getting started...

Lugh Lámhfhada abú!

Elite on the atari ST taught me Hex and hex editing.

I seem to remember that if you held tab at the loading screen (Atari ST) and typed in "Jameson" or some such, then during the game at any time, you could press TAB and a hex editor would appear, letting you edit your stats. I quickly learned the hex number system, and started converting decimal to hex and vice versa to see what affected what.It was good fun - sometimes, "cheating" is educational, too...

It sounds to me like we need Michael to wink and tap his nose at us when the AI trading issues are sorted so we can have another go.

The game really needs a player-led revolution to prove it can be done - civil war to open conflict to regime change.

The Eranin conflict is much more in the balance - I understand a lot of Americans weighed in to that one on the side of the Feds as soon as the Imperials were described as communists in a newsletter. If Lugh can become an example of what happens when the majority of players pull in one direction, that will make it clear what hangs in the balance at Eranin. It will also demonstrate clearly the compelling nature of the always-online galaxy. Lugh in an offline game would be a dull place.

Well I started to use hex editors on x386 IBM PC/Dos. Missed Elite :/ But that kind of cheating was quite fun, then I learned to edit and write my own drivers and alter some game settings/files to squeeze a little bit more performance out of my hardware and software. Good times :)

And back on topic. I really hope that orfeboy will manage to reignite the flame. Will be a shame to lose it because I really want to support this initiative someday :) It will be great to see it affecting game lore, forming alliances with other player-driven factions. Just imagine if Commanders from Crimson State Group will ally with our Alliance posse in the future? Or with Communists from Communism Interstellar? That could really change things on major scale! I mean together we can even influence who will sit on Imperial throne or who will be president in Federation. If there will be any Empire and Federation left at all. Mwahahaha! :D

Dang, the people who tested this are awesome then! Hope whatever you had to fix will let us change a system successfully next time!

Or not;....to be a true simulation/game, after the civil war occurs (or during), massive buildup/movement of Federal forces should be happening,....and their response predictable.

As long as FD allows 'you folks' your Rah Rah pride and enjoyment of the achievement, be happy. In other words don't expect to take over the galaxy.
