Lugh Event a failure - Taking over systems doesnt work

Hey hold on a minute? Who said this was over?

I never made any such statement!

Flin might be throwing in the towel but I certainly am not! Did you always think this was going to be easy? Things don't go our way so we throw the toys out of the pram? Are we babies now all of a sudden? Pull yourselves together people!

What you are seeing here is a sympthom of all uprisings that fail as soon as they hit a bump in the road. The casual followers drop off.

This thing started well but as soon as the newsletter drew every tom and harry into Lugh they all came looking for 'Something' to be going on in the game. They hung around like flies and then started shooting. While they were there they started doing random missions. They could not care less about what we are doing here. They were just looking for something to do in a then empty game.

But do you know what? That stage will blow over but I am still here. I will not stop. Ask yourself what are you going to do in the game now? Are you going to wander off now and start doing missions for the Empire? for the Federation? After this?

Are we to suddenly now to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory?

I think not...

I want every person on this thread who is still willing to back me on this to PM me as soon as you read this post and declare their willingness to go on. All is not lost and we are not going down without a fight I can promise you that!

I am only getting started...

Lugh Lámhfhada abú!

Well said, I will be continuing.

I actually love the fact that Michael is not being completely upfront and forward with his answers.. with each reply he gets 10 more "what about...".. Its great! The eliment of "figure it out for yourself, we arnt here to hand you the answers" is fantastic!

That's fine when the game is working, but:
a) Without knowing what is meant to happen, we can't tell if it is working properly,
b) So many other things aren't working correctly that we have no confidence in any particular system.

This experience has been very interesting. Seeing as Michael Brookes said server changes made the conflict zones stable, where are we at right now? Are there conflict zones we can take part in?

If so, we should push further, I bet fighting there would be the next step to further increase the Crimson State's influence past 50%. I wonder what the stage after that will be? Maybe the disappearance of the conflict zones and the shift of the system to an independant state, which will gain more stability as we take missions to assassinate federal ships for example. That would seem like the logical outcome and hopefully we can achieve that. This would mean that with time, it would be possible to change the area of influence of the major factions, which would be a great long term goal for gameplay.

In Lugh has anyone ever seen any fellow commanders as allies in Green on the radar ? i have only ever seen npcs as allies and i play open all the time.

Maybe it is not supposed to work like this...

Man I'm about to just hang this game up for a few weeks until FD gets all this crap sorted. Persistent universe hardly exists, trading completely broken, exploration not worth the trouble, can't send text messages to anyone in-game, friends not being able to see each other in open play sometimes, bounty hunting is *okay* but the cops attack when you attack someone who's wanted which is ridiculous (cops need to be their own global faction and not spread around a bunch of other small factions in systems)...among other things.

I wanna love this game but frankly right now it's a buggy, hardly functioning mess. Having to force myself to log on lately because I know crap's gonna still be broken.

Does anyone know where to get Combat Stabilisers from. Went everwhere that was meant to be selling them as I had a mission from the Crimson State to get some and there wasn't even a section on the commodities for them at all.

Seemed strange. Maybe I should ticket it?

Oh, you people are only starting to think of this now? The penny drops... And to think the height of the ambitions of the Fed followers is to just want to do missions and affect basicly nothing? Somehow they are fulfilling a role. Think bigger people! That is what I have been aiming for all along!

This this this. We *need* more information.

This event could and *should* have been a triumph; player driven change in a dynamic universe? The gaming press would have *eaten it up*, free publicity, player base delighted, winners all round.

Instead we've achieved nothing, the most committed and involved part of the player base is confused and demoralized, reviewers will at best mention the "dynamic universe" as a system that's not really working yet, nobody happy despite the "kudos" for the attempt.

I hesitate to be critical because I think Michael and everyone at FD *are* doing a fantastic job and releasing fixes and updates at an astounding rate, but FD you are shooting yourselves in the foot by being too coy about how these systems work, and generating a substantial amount of unnecessary frustration and burn out in your fledgling player base as a result.

Tell us why the event didn't work. Tell us which factors affect the system. Be EXPLICIT. Tell us why the percentages seem to be frozen at Sorbago for goodness sake - is is working as intended? Is it a bug? If it's working as intended where is the player feedback? Having the cleverest system in the world in place is utterly useless if it's invisible to the players.

We *need* more information, you are losing us.

Yes, it's definitely too early to throw in the towel. Both LFE and CSG have missions out requesting weapons, and I'm seeing a lot more combat missions than I used to. There are still profits to be made, fun to be had, and a system to flip!

in the immortal words of Tatewake Kuno, "I fight on!"

Interestingly, just now I took 3 LFE missions and abandoned them. My rep with them immediately dropped to UNFRIENDLY. Just THREE!

I wonder how big a chunk of "influence" I just took out of them :)

Kaun System, Evoluted Station.

Bit of a trek though.

No clue if that even works. It has been observed that NPC ships that we "see" are only here for our benefit - to give the impression of "life".

They don't really trade, their goods don't get to the market. They don't even dock at stations (try following one and see).

So I dunno if their faction affects anything too.

if you follow one and use the low fsd wake to get to the station, the trader will dock at the station, doesn't trade though. And doing this means that you will see the trader again at this system / station. I've noticed the same trader around my previous home system always in the same ship.

nothing wrong with that. The question is, what you do instead? Doing a walk and talk with your wife each day for some hours? ;)

on topic:
i think the signs of civil war should be MUCH MORE visible. Perhaps even graphically with more and more devastaded stations, the "mood" of a system should change drastically etc.

I'd go program own game (I am actually slowly working on 2), play EVE, other games, learn developers maths, read a book...
But that's me. :D

Nice test guys, now I'm worrying that if those efforts had no real effect then what chance do the rest of us have?

Also what other things are we going to have to post-release test to prove they don't work and get it fixed?
