Make Elite an MMO again !!

The multiplayer modes already have these bonuses baked in. Traders operating in wings effectively get 15% extra credits from trader dividends, couriers get 4x the income for an equivalent amount of work than solo players, bounties are less risky and faster to hunt down yet give full bonuses to each player. And yes, I do think that these bonuses should be removed or made obtainable for solo players as I see it as favouritism towards those that play in multiplayer, which relatively speaking makes it a punishment for solo players.

Multiplayer should be about playing with people, not about getting free stuff. Players who want to play with others are already playing in open or private groups; players that want to be play without other humans ruining their game stay in solo. Trying to force either of those groups into the other's play environment will only end with a lot of disgruntled players.

So let's say a War in a system between two PMF, with active players on both sides should not involve "fighting other players"?
There is a war and you have tools to resolve it. It's not resolved by killing other players, but by participating in activities like Conflict Zones. Killing players don't do nothing to win or loose the war.
Maybe you're the one for whom the game's not made.
I think it's actually me who understands and accepts this game for what it is, while you're... confused

Im just curious on why do you guys think this will not end well as you all can continue playing in your solo/priv experience like right now with no changes in your gameplay....

Care to elaborate?

Its been discussed a thousand times before. Sure, as someone who perhaps has never seen such a discussion before then it might seem like an original idea, but believe us, it isn't.

There are some who want the game either to be open only or for rewards to favour playing in open. Then there are those who are not.

I'm sure some people here (without reading through the 3 pages it has already garnered) who have told you some of the reasons why they don't like the idea and oppose any suggestion like it. I could add my own reasons as well.

Thing is, there used to be a megathread, which the mods merged all such threads into. We used to call it Hotel California, because you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

The debates raged endlessly.

My own counter suggestion to all those who want a pat on the head for playing in open is for FD to make a separate server/galaxy that is open only. Campaign for whatever rewards you want in that. A billion per kill if you like! The rest of us can get on with playing the game in whatever mode we feel like.

So, rather than bringing up old points, i simply offer music.

I understand you can be afraid of gankers, I saw it in many games.. but man, its a game, sometimes you need to lose as in all games...

Also the price of ships compared to the money you easily win in this game... Why that fear? I just cant understand...

Using words like "afraid" and "fear" smacks of PVP'er talk to goad players into open to give them more targets to aim at.

Whilst I personally enjoy open, and especially CG's, it's more for the chance to test my ship building skills.

All my ships, from my combat Vette to my cargo Cutter, hell even my DBX and Asp explorers are designed with survival in mind.

Saying that I have NO interest in PVP combat and will always run/ evade rather than fight.

I hear those aforementioned words a lot as I won't give the PVP'ers what they want (a ship explosion) and am only interested in staying alive.

I get called a coward regularly, because despite playing in open, I won't go toe to toe with anybody and will use every trick in the book to avoid them.

Open only anything wouldn't change anything for me and nowadays most PVP'ers don't even try as I'm way more effort to kill than they can be bothered to expend.

If you look at population on other similar games like EVE you know this game could do X10
And they are paying a sub !!
So very wrong decission IMO.
I disagree: we do not need another EVE, since that already exists.

Elite Dangerous has a very unique approach to online gaming, and it created a new niche.

It's almost like the game is set in a massive galaxy with thousands of inhabited systems [...]

Which is part of the problem IMO. The Bubble is too big... I wish instead that individual solar systems felt properly "big" (each one being their own "The Expanse" with a unique story, characters, feel, economy, interplanetary trade routes, etc) and we had far fewer of them. It's kinda like casualty numbers - most people are more emotionally impacted when 12 people die in a very detailed and personalized narrative than we are when 500,000 people die in some global catastrophe like a pandemic.

Something the size of Colonia would be awesome.
Can't wait for the Thargoids to destroy the bubble 🥳

I would love if the Bubble started small like this, with maybe a new system being populated every year (driving by CGs). My heart is in the Bubble because I'm attached to the "real" catalog stars, but Colonia's small size is appealing to me, especially if the entire player base was squeezed into that smaller Bubble. I wonder if the pre-ED lore dictated such a large Bubble, or if Frontier could have made it smaller had they chose to... Either way, I'm with you - it's time for the Thargoids to pull off the gloves and start wiping entire systems off the galactic map :D

It did, it was called The Pill in the 2014 Beta.

ELITE 1984 had 8 galaxies with each 256 systems (with one single planet in each system).

Yeah I find it quite absurd players in PG and Solo have as much influence on BGS as players in Open. I think Open should be AT LEAST 2~3 times more influence.
Where as whilst I have no problem open existing for those who want it, I would be fed up if open was given carrots to force people into it. If players want to play in open cool, if they want to play in solo cool. And if they want to play in PG fine. I am so tired of content being compromised or sometimes completely cut and only producing MP stuff.

Fear has naff all to do with it. I don't need other players and I don't like what certain types of players do to my game. I would play ED if it was single player. I love that I can play it like it is in MP with friends... But have zero interest in open. It's all about knowing the game you buy. FD need to carry some of the can for their vague marketing but a lot of it comes down to players ignorance. The modes and how MP works in ED is 1 thing which had been easy to learn about since beofore launch. If anything there is less control about how to gate players in your instance than was initially planned.

In case you're referrering to me: weighted open should never influence you personal achievements like funds or materials.
Game modes are good. But the pvp side of the game should not be avoidable by clicking another mode, and the last 8 years have shown
both BGS and pp are played quite player-vs-player.
Why? The PvP which counts in ED is competitive PvE this is by design and I think it's great. It's also a way players on console get some MP content without paying for online

I'm indeed. Too many nonsensical arguments
It's quite simple how the game works. You don't like it and that is fine but the modes make sense when you accept that ED is a competitive PvE game with fully optional direct player interaction.

The core playerbase who managed to get this game out of KSer (and it was close) knew that this is the 4th game in the series. This time with MP if you want it.

Like, nothing of this is new. You have your opinion, I have mine, all are equally valid, but the game is what it is.

That's why I first answered this won't end well, but out of sheer boredom couldn't stay out either

OP spoke about open being dead. It is....if your not in a hotspot like deciat or shinratra your hardly ever going to encounter anyone ever. Fact...it is!#
Unless you go out of your way like cgs or above mentioned its a void!
I've been in the bubble in the open for weeks ...months. knowone. Not one single encounter. Actually bar a few pvp incidents l deliberately intended not a bean.
Now that's not how the game was intended. In the bubble there should be traders with cargo, pirates interdicting them so on so forth. Yet in open apart from npc activity there's nowt.
My home system is well within the bubble. I play open 95% of the time. Alone.
Do think open only bonuses would change that forever. Quite how namely the details is well oiled discussions some heated.
Theres opinions on both sides.
Respect all but mines obvious.
Do something. Anything!
Just don't leave it as is.
