Many stations removed since 1.1

What was the general rationale behind renaming these stations?

There was a rationale???

The only thing that never changes is change itself...

A really neat game requiring keen observation, experience, and practice to make progress. What? You made progress? you figured a few things out?

Dang. We'll have to fix that...

The instability of every aspect of ED is really starting to wear thin.

Is this strategy really designed to garner a loyal user base?

What are they, dare I say it, "thinking" ?

I had presumed unintentional at first, although Mike's comment that some station names have changed is either "we did it intentionally" for reasons that have not been made clear, or "ooops, erm... darnation... best put on best PR face".

Either way it would be good for FD to let the playerbase know the rationale for this if it was intentional, or otherwise admit it was a boo-boo so we know where things stand.

Some KS levels contained named space stations. So these are probably the stations that finally got their correct names given to them by the respective backers.

I'm curious what will happen if anyone had left a large ship parked on a station which became an outpost... :)

I think they might have simply changed the names. Thats what happened on one of my traderoutes.

That's exactly what I found, flew to my favourite location, open map, what the heck! terminal no longer there! realised it was but with a different name.

This station name changing is also causing a problem for bounty hunters using a KWS also. Imagine after a long fight against a very bad person (player or AI) in an anaconda with lots of lovely bounty on their head from assorted areas.

Handing in to the independents could be a nightmare as the independent station group named may no longer exist with a small group, so how will you locate the groups whereabouts to be able to hand in the for the bounty.

I think it could be time that independent bounties should be made available to hand in at any independent station.

I hope things don't change this way every new patch, this is like reseting Matrix every time. If it is a persistent galaxy it should be persistent.
CMDRs are working hard for hours or days to find good routes and then a patch can wipe all the work done.

My guess is they have begun to add some stations for the community stuff to fit but somethings gone slightly wrong.

Just found this in the Lugh thread..the station names have changed, but the mission cards are still pointing to the old names:

I can confirm - had to abandon a couple of missions last night because Sellers in Sesuang has now become Stillman Terminal and it wouldn't let me hand the missions in. :)

Changing names when a system flips to a new controlling faction i can understand and get behind, even if it means some pre patch bounties and missions are no longer able to complete (sorry guv, that bounty was for the last administration, we don't honour them any more...), but when a station changes type overnight it's rather immersion breaking especially when we have community goals to build space stations.

I've had a few folks mail me too saying that station names have changed or stations are missing. Bit surprised, wonder how many in total

Looks like we going to be busy updating the database, Ed is full of surprises would be nice if they at least posted a list of the stations that have had a name change. Excellent tool by the way and the latest version is much faster to use so well done.

Commander, we have some news for you! One is good and one is bad.
Bad is, somebody deleted station in this system.
Good is, now you can build it! Bring us some 100 000 tons of bauxite.

This was my 1st thoguht.... remove them out so they can justify new missions building them.... bring it on! :)

A small number of stations were renamed to satisfy the ones purchased by some od the backers.

The bigger change was due to change in system ownership - the dynamically generated names use faction as one of the components in the name generation. We'll update this to allow changes to the system without changing the station names. In the shorter term we'll investigate a method to update the existing missions to put the right names in. You can still hand you missions in at the stations so in cases were there's only one station that's easy to tell.

Really, I would of expected that with release the stations & systems would be locked down and only necessary changes would be performed. Not wholesale changes which add very little on the face of things.

Update: beaten by MB explanation.
