Could be worse, could be a space game with no characters at all... and trucks driving around a circular track in the beginning And we both own that game!
Mass effect is supposed to be finished and these animation problems are very fundamental to the type of game it is: a 3d person rpg action game revolving around characters with lots of dialogue. It is a mystery that the game was shown to the public like this, in such a fundamentally broken state.
Elite Dangerous is a very different gaming project to begin with. It is not an RPG that revolves around detailed characters and dialogue.
But even then... FD is adding characters that look better and better with every new update.
So if you want to compare the two, then go ahead.
The Salarian had a point though. But seriously, what happened? Are these actual professional voice actors? Were they forced to read their lines in alphabetical order? I sincerely mean it when I say any local amateur drama-class has better stuff.

Yes the Salarian really made sense in this context.
He begged to be removed from this disaster.
Someone on youtube said that that was the moment the game became self aware.
What happened is that most of the people responsible for the original trilogy are gone. This is not the BioWare that gave us Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age Origins, KOTOR and Mass Effect 1 and 2, that's the short version.
Only guy left from the original trilogy is Mac Walters (game director for ME Andromeda), he wrote Wrex and Garrus in ME1 and became lead writer after Drew Karpyshyn moved to BioWare Austin to do writing for SWTOR.
This game is made by the studio that was responsible for the ME3 multiplayer and Omega DLC.
AFAIR that last preset was "personalised settings" or "custom" if you will (can't say really as I had polish language version forced on me by origin).[/QUOTE]
I'm not sure what they did to make the character behave that way on the stairs, the only gripe I had is that like in early witcher 3 they tried to make the turning movement "realistic" and ended up with a drunken sway instead. Witcher devs corrected it swiftly after release, hope they will follow suit.
What I do not like is that they apparently had to create new aliens that all follow the same old bipedal body design.
I think that is lazy, but it would not have put me off the game.
This is a common trend in sci-fi. The series that tried to break the canon weren't so popular. It seems we humans like humanoid aliens. Even THE Alien (xenomorph) is bipedal and has hands... It's just... safer. I think it began with not having means to do special effects in the early days (Star Wars, Star Treks etc.) and stayed as a canon.
Son... Yeah right Daddy can I play with my Nomad? Not now son, Daddy's saving the Tempest right now! My mini-review of Mass Effect: Andromeda (trial)
I finished my trial playthrough during saturday night. I played straight 9h 45m until wee hours in the morning, and liked it. Sure, the faces do tend to look comical at times (which I think is a bug and probably will be adressed) but it's not THAT bad as the wailing armchair critics pack claim on the internet. Had 1 (one) weird face moment when Cora's gaze seemed to be focused on a wrong spot, and she looked like a cross-eyed labrador eyeing a treat. She also looks like she has a smile glued to her face at all times. But that is inconsequential to the overall experience.
As for the bashing on the story and characters, well... I played it through the night, straight 9h 45m. I think that is saying something. To keep that spoiler-free, I will just say it feels like Mass Effect 1 with beautiful graphics and a Mako which makes sense. And I enjoyed it enough to keep me invested and awake
And boy it does look good. On a stock i5-3570k + 8GB RAM (which is minimum requirement according to the publisher) and gtx 1070 it was a smooth experience on auto settings, and was even playable on Ultra, though not without hiccups. And on auto it looks really really good: the mountain planet, then the desert planet looked very interesting, although those are not open worlds, but rather "levels". But the available areas are huge and hide many secrects. Just to say those two "planets" (levels) were enough for the 10h playthrough, and there is supposedly a hundred of them. And the playthrough was abruptly cut at the climax saying something along the lines of thank you for playing the game, now go purchase [storyline is locked] ;-)
Now the real spoilers begin (spoilers auto show on mobile so here is a double cushion of anti-spoiler tech ;-)

It feels like Star Wars: The Force awakens, only within Mass Effect You got a replay of things - old alien ruins, artificial inteligence protecting them, and a hostile alien race. You interact with the alien tech, it does mysterious things. Still, IMHO they managed to keep everything fresh and different. The setting is also familiar - you get the Nexus which is something akin of the Citadel with all its rich storylines and interpersonal plots. You get the Tempest which is normandy 3.0. And you get a plethora of sidequests. Sure, combat cannot be paused, but the game is so fluid it is better that way. Scanning things on foot is a cool puzzler sometimes, and doesn't feel like a chore, unlike the dreaded planetary scans with their unskippable zoom ins.

Like said this feels like a refresh of the original Mass Effect 1, ticks all the right checkboxes, and plays great. I would recommend it, although if you wait a bit, the price could drop and a few patches would be on the way probably.

Eh, well no, that says nothing beyond that you liked it. But considering the torrent of vids online that we can all see, lets just say that we all have different taste. Anyway, thanks for the review, the more opinions we can hear the better!

Good to hear an honest opinion from someone who's played it, without the drama.
Just been watching on Twitch, looks ok, folk seem to be enjoying it. Sure the character animations could be better but the writing didn't seem that bad. I mean it's not gonna be Hollywood standard is it, I think you have to expect some jank in your video game.
Alright, I just got finished the single player trial, ending in a bit of a cliffhanger.
I'm surprised to say, I'll probably be buying this one at launch/preordering it tomorrow. All the criticism about animations, dialogue, writing is completely justified, but I really liked the actual gameplay on the first open world planet. To me, it feels a lot like the uncharted worlds in the original Mass Effect 1, only more fleshed out with more background and lore. If I don't rush through the quests as much as I just did in the trial because of the ticking 10 hour clock, I'll probably enjoy it even more because there's more time to read about stuff in the codex.
